Today the weather was super and in the early evening I planned a little ride with the Litespeed Vortex. It had been a while since I last rode this bike and I needed to assess how it was standing in order to make sure it was ready for next months Cancer ride. I took it for a local spin around the church tower - literally - and was surprised at how well it performed. It rides very smoothly due to the light weight and superbe wheels. Last year it had developed a little creak in the crank but it wasn't there anymore. At least no during this ride. .

Felt rested today and decided to ride out for a longer ride on the Moots YBB again. I set out along the red Bloso route - in the reverse direction - and enjoyed the crisp but warming mid-morning forest. I settled for a pace I could maintain for 2 hours and after a while I switched to the Blue Bloso and completed that to rejoin the Red again. The trails were fantastic - dry with just a hint of moisture here and there. Had a great and enjoyable ride.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Time for anothr fast forest ride. Taking the YBB out along the bigger trails to shape up my form after suffering from a head cold. My legs were still hurting from yesterdays Pilates session but after a while they warmed up nicely and only started to hurt again at th eend of todays' ride. Average heartrate was 122 bpm which was rather high but the ride was intense because there were a couple of little climbs in it.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Today I felt ready for a new ride after 2 weeks of rhinitis. My head was almost clear and I got on the Moots YBB as soon as I got home from work. It had rained a little bit last night but it had been dry over the weekend so in the forest most roads where completely dry. I started out with a relatively easy workout including some loops in Meerdael forest and after that I rode to Vaalbeek and Blanden for a final lap into and out of Mollendaal forest. The legs felt surprisingly well and my average heartrate was a cool 113bpm.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen After a week of suffering from rhinitis and feeling too tired to workout I was ready for a little recovery ride this monday morning. I also felt numb from the terrorist attack on nearby Zaventem airport. A cruel awakening into terror for little Belgium. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the 31 deceased and hopes for a speedy recovery for the more than 200 injured. With that state of mind I did not feel like training much. But this morning I sat on the Hilset on the Tacx Satori for half an hour . Leg speed was not up to the usual and I kept the resistance low.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen There was a cold unpleasant wind blowing from the North this morning. I waited until 10AM but the sun was nowhere to be seen. So I took the Psychlo-X out for a ride. I has it back on road tyres - the trusted Schwalbe Marathon S in 28mm size - so it rolled smoothly. Riding along the Expressweg to reach the Tiensesteenweg and taking that toward - you guessed it -Tienen. Just before Tienen I followed the ring around this city until I could take a right towards Hoegaarden. In for a climb here and I settled down and took my time for it. Meldert and Beauvechain were next and I passed the 1st Wing entrance on my way to the N240. Another right and right again towards Hamme Mille. Here the wind was playing its last card when the semicircle around the Beauvechain airstrip took me straight into it. Once I reached Hamme Mille I was protected by the Meerdael Forest when I followed the Naamsesteenweg back towards Blanden. I had a good ride. The legs felt a bit heavy in the start and I was troubled by the wind and the cold temperatures. But the longest ride of 2016 up till now was a fact

Today the wind was blowing harder from the northeast than yesterday, so I decided to take the Obed out for a mixed ride. Starting through Meerdael Forest towards Bierbeek and then taking cobbles and field roads towards L'Ecluse and Melin. From Melin I set forth towards Pietrebias, having the wind in my back now. Checking out some forgotten trails and finding out that there was still a bit of mud here and there. Arriving in Biez and Grez Doiceau and struggling against the wind which was now blowing from my right. Reaching Bossut and then onwards into Nethen and Meerdael Forest again. Quite a relief to have the shelter of the trees during this last stretch of kilometers. I began feeling tired in my legs and was glad when I arrived back home. My longest ride this year - in kilometers - and with yesterdays ride a good duo.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Nice weather today, that is to say it was sunny and dry. But it was relatively cold and I waited until the morning fog had been burned away by the sun. I planned on doing a 2 hour ride today. I took the Psychlo-X out and started towards Hamme Mille. Unfortunately I flattened my front tyre during the descent along the dirt-ridden bikpath. No alarm, I had a canister of Pitstop with me. Emptying that into my front tyre inflated it and kept it sealed. I need to get ride of those Grifos, 2 flat tyres in two rides is telling a tale. They are really worn out. I didn't risk going for a big loop so I rode back to Blanden and then did a loop over Haasrode, Bierbeek , Opvelp and then back into Bierbeek along the long cobble descent. Bike took it well and my front tyre stayed inflated. Back towards Haasrode Industrie and then into Blanden along the Expressweg. A last loop into Blanden and up towards Haasrode before flagging off with a good distance under my belt. Good average speed too, as it turned out.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Fine weather today but I chose for half an hour on the Tacx Satori rollers . I could maintain a high speed and managed to loosen up my muscles very well during this workout. The weather forecast for the next week calls for cold nights but relatively warm days with temperatures around 10 degrees C and dry weather.

It had not been the best of weathers these last couple of days and it had rained last night as well. I decided to ride out nevertheless and bit te bullet as it were. The Obed was still muddy from the last rides but the chain was clean . I started out towards Mollendaalbos along big forest roads and it wasn' until I left the forest and rode into the Mille fields that I began to notice how wet the trails were. Add to that an unpleasant wind and my plan to get back into the forest asap was quickly made. Up towards the Prosperdreef and the Walendreef and then for a loop through the Kouterbos and along the Zoete Waters into Heverlee forest. Back south and back into the Meerdael forest. A last little lap towards the Herculesdreef and then back parallel to the Weertse Dreef and I was satisfied that I had ridden enough. The legs felt fine and the average speed and heartrate were where they should be. High and low.

The weather was sunny but cold when I rode out with the Litespeed Obed around 11AM. There was a nasty northeasterly breeze and I decided to make the most of the cover of the forest. A classic Meerdael ride, following its perimeter with occasional ventures out of the forest. The legs felt fine and I was lucky to have the breeze pushing me on over the fields of Mille towards Valduc. Felt great to feel nature's forces working for you. In and through Meerdael Forest towards Nethen and then slowly making my way onto Sint Joris Weert, the Zoete Waters and Heverlee forest for a last stretch along its rim into Blanden. An hour and a half on a bike and it felt fine.

It has been a while since I cycled outdoors and today the opportunity arose to ride out. Crisp but sunny weather and above all, dry. The trails were moist but I took the Litespeed Obed out along the bigger forest roads and some tarmac to differentiate and keep the speed up. It felt good to feel a mountain bike move and twist below me and I was very happy when I arrived home after the best part of an hour
