Today I did a ride in the centre of my world, the Meerdael Forest. I followed the BLOSO Red and Blue route, but in reverse direction. Thats a nice way to meet some other bikers and there were quite a few . I noticed that at least 3/4 of them wasn't wearing a helmet. This I find an extremely stupid and unresponsible thing to do. Falling on your head, or even clipping a big branch can cost you dearly. Much more than the price of the helmet or the perceived warmth in this kind of weather. What strikes me also is that the same people are usually not wearing glasses either. Stupid again because when you catch something in your eye during a downhill, you may lose control over the bike and fall, and when you are not wearing a helmet you know the drill. Ever cracked an egg? Imagine your head being that egg. I'm sure you get the picture. I pissed someone off on another forum a while ago because I was calling him a nutter because he wore no helmet. I later learned that the person in question is supposedly a surgeon! I mean, aren't surgeons supposed to be clever people? I rest my case and wear my helmet.
