Today I needed a recovery ride. To help my legs regain their shape after last days' long rides. So I settled on the Kroem Toer extra loop of 35K starting in Blanden and making its way to Korbeek Dyle. From there it follows the main road towards Huldenberg where the Smeysberg is taken. I decided against the Smeysberg - recovery on a 17% slope , I don't think so - and rode on towards Overijse. Up the slope there and then left towards Terlanen where I took a right for the ascent towards Ottenburg . Here I saw the orange markers of the Kroem Toer again and I followed those into Pecrot and out of it towards Nethen. The climb up the Rue de Pecrot hurt but I could do it sitting down. Not so on the Tienne Vincent in Nethen. This has portions of close to 20% and I had to stand up to get my bike up the slope. 34 in front and 23 in the back is tough to get around on a 20% slope. But I made it without blowing up my legs. Further onwards through Hamme Mille, Beauvechain and then taking a right towards Meldert. Down and up again and then, instead of following the Kroem Toer which goes straight on towards Hauthem, I followed the Waversesteenweg until I could take a left into Hoksem. From here climbing again up the slope towards Kumtich. Double left towards Willebringen and before long I was passing through Neervelp on my way up to the water tower of Bierbeek. My heartrate stayed nicely where it should stay on a recovery ride with an average of 109bpm. Legs felt good and the weather was fine with an average temperature of 24 degrees C throughout the ride.
