Sunny weather and I rode out around 10AM to avoid the heat. I wanted to ride out for an hour along the Leuvense Vaart and could maintain a good tempo whilst riding. One hour out I was nearing the Trianondreef. Here I could turn and ride back towards Leuven at the other side of the Leuvense Vaart. The wind began to play with me. At first it was well shielded by trees and shrubberies but when I neared Leuven I had it full in my face. Tough now to maintain speed , but at least the sun was shining whilst I rode through Leuven to reach the Tervuurse Poort. Onwards towards Arenberg and Heverlee. Taking a right towards Oud-Heverlee the wind was again playing with me. And I was losing - speed. Past the Zoete Waters, Sint Joris Weert and Nethen and gradually the wind became my ally again. Hamme Mille and then Tourinnes led me to Beauvechain. Here I took a left to reach Opvelp and Neervelp. The long climb to the Bierbeek water tower was followed by a descent towards Bremt. Left along the small tarmac road parallel to the E40 and I reached Bierbeek and Haasrode. The last stretch into Blanden was against the wind again and I was beginning to feel tired. Fortunately I was nearing the end of todays' ride. Looking back I am glad I could hold on to my speed and made this a good tempo training.
