The KBC, which is my employer, has a Mountainbike Club, consisting of quite a bit of members - it's a big bank . The Club organises all kinds of stuff - organising guided rides all over Belgium and going to organised rides are only part of the deal - and have a weekly thursday meet during the spring-up-to-fall months. They meet up to do a ride in either the Meerdael area or the Linden/Kessel-lo area. It had been a while since I joined that ride and today looked like a good opportunity to ride out with them. They meet at the Heverlee Sports Centre near the Paratroopers Caserne around 6.30pm and usually its a core of die-hards meeting up for a 2 hour ride. Some 8 bikers turned up and we had a great ride. Mostly all fitness levels are present but the group has a policy to wait for the less fast riders. If the difference is too big the group splits up. I decided to go on economy so I stayed mostly at the back of the group. A close collegue from work was there as well and I really enjoyed riding an easier pace and have the fast guys waiting for us. Whilst they wait and cool off we can just continue pedalling which is easier on the muscles. I know the areas around Meerdaelwoud - today we went all the way to Wavre - like the back of my hand so if the group would inadvertedly split up I can always guide them back in. We had a good ride and the weather was great. A lot of bugs flying around in the forests and fields though and some of them tasted pretty "buggy" as well . Didn't even have to clean the bike after the ride , the tracks were surprisingly dry. Pity the forecast for the prolonged weekend looks grim. Saturday might be the best day yet since Sunday and Monday the temperatures would drop to 14-15 degrees C with a lot of rain as well. Darn !
