Dear Friends,
Liebe Freunde,
A famous book starts off like this: "I once had a farm in Africa..."
I'm sure you've read it, or you might have seen the movie, yes, "Out of Africa". Yes! With Meryl Streep, Klaus Maria Brandauer and Robert Redford.
If I would write a book, it would probably start off a little different. It might sound similar, would however tell another story alltogether.
I think it would start somewhat like this:
"I once had a dog from Germany..."
I can just hear Meryl Streep say those words, in her chocolaty voice...
Today, July 7th 2006, my daughter and I would have celebrated a birthday. The dog we bought in Germany would turn three years old on this very day. However, instead of celebrating his birthday, we are remembering his death.
He had to be put to sleep only weeks ago, because of his severe unilateral dysplastic hip, causing him too much pain.
Now this dog was my daughter's first real buddy, her first companion and friend in life.
The pain and the heartache his death provoced, is almost too much to bare.
And it was totally "unneccessary".
It could have been avoided.
I must raise my voice and tell the world that there is something wrong with the way we "produce" dogs.
I would appreciate it, if you would help me carry out a message to the canine world.
Please do go ahead and read more about our beloved dog in this blog.
Yours sincerely,
Jantie
