die de Amerikanen bezig houden (in Delaware vooral) kunnen de kiezer
hier misschien ook aanspreken: hekserij, masturbatie ...het lijken ons
vrolijker onderwerpen dan Magnette te horen beweren dat Wallonië best

The
fresh-faced Christine O'Donnell, who is 41 but looks a decade younger,
has leaped into the national spotlight since she scored an upset victory
over the official Republican candidate to win the Delaware nomination
for Senate. She
is running against Democratic Party candidate Chris Coons aiming to win
the seat once held by Vice President Joe Biden in the November 2
elections. Last
month's surprise primary win by the Tea Party-backed O'Donnell over the
establishment Republican candidate thrust her into the media glare. And
political pundits were soon feasting on a host of videos dragged up
from the archives dating back to the 1990s and filmed during the years
of O'Donnell's conservative, Christian-based political activism. In
one video, O'Donnell advises young people against masturbation as part
of a crusade by a group called Savior's Alliance for Lifting the Truth
(SALT) against pornography and abortion. "The
Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. You can't
masturbate without lust!" she says in the MTV documentary from 1996
advocating sexual abstinence. In
another interview she admits to having tried witchcraft when she was
young. "I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven," she says. Then
came allegations that she had misrepresented her academic credentials,
claiming she had studied at Oxford University, England, when in fact she
had joined a course whose organizers rented rooms at the prestigious
college. There
were other eye-browing raising images such as when O'Donnell explained
the "myth" of the theory of evolution, or claimed that "American
scientific companies are crossbreeding humans and animals and coming up
with mice with fully functioning human brains." O'Donnell,
who survived charges of past financial improprieties, has a history of
rightwing activism and is well-known to Delaware voters. This
time around though she managed to harness a groundswell of
anti-establishment anger, and backed by an endorsement from former
Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, won a stunning victory
in Delaware. The
ensuing barrage of bizarre videos and statements forced her underground
for several weeks to regroup her forces and reshape her strategy. And she came out fighting in her first campaign ad last week.

"I'm not a witch. I'm nothing you've heard. I'm you,' she says. "None

seeks to draw the difference with her Democratic rival Coons, stressing
she has never been to Yale university, and insisting she is as ordinary
as the next person. "It
is these career politicians who've been groomed for office from day
one, who have gotten our country in the shape that it's in," she told a
small campaign meeting of about 70 people in Newark recently. "I,
like many people here, know how hard it is to earn a dollar and that's
why I want to go to Washington, to protect and keep that dollar." According to the polls on the specialist website RealClearPolitics, O'Donnell is running 16 points behind Coons. Traditional
Republican voters remain wary of her more extreme views and worry that
come November 2 she will scare off moderate Republicans. But her supporters remain dedicated and loyal. "She's a new breed of Republican," said her communications director Dave Yonkman. "She's
a breath of fresh air," agreed supporter Kevin Thomas, 31, though he
confessed on the issue of masturbation "that's one thing where I think
our view point isn't necessarily the same, but that's OK." O'Donnell is using what magical powers she has to hit back against what she says is an orchestrated campaign to discredit her. "I'm
not the person they're painting in the liberal media. I've put my name

Combien étaient-ils? Des « dizaines de milliers », dira-t-on. Difficile
de préciser le chiffre car une bonne partie de la foule était en
mouvement, un peu partout autour du Mall. Mais limpression globale est
quil y avait vraiment du monde, plus que pour la manif anti Tea Party du 2 octobre). Le nombre se rapprochait même peut-être de la grande manif de Glenn Beck,
une autre vedette de la télévision qui aurait réuni près de 100 000

Glenn Beck avait rassemblé une foule très blanche et plutôt âgée, pour
invoquer Dieu et « restaurer lhonneur »
de lAmérique (sous-entendu, la délivrer des mains dObama). Cette
fois-ci, la foule était aussi très blanche, mais nettement plus jeune et
souriante. En cette veille dHalloween, beaucoup étaient déjà déguisés,
en sorcières (allusion bien sûr à la candidate républicaine au
Delaware, Christine ODonnell, qui doit préciser dans ses pubs de
campagne quelle nen est pas une), tasses de thé (référence à la bête
noire de cette foule, le Tea Party), prélats ou autres animaux. Pour
résumer, on se serait cru dans une fête dHalloween mâtinée de Gay Pride
(les homosexuels n'étaient pas sous-représentés ce samedi). Comme il
est maintenant de tradition sur ce blog, quelques manifestants nous
expliquent ce quils faisaient là. Tiffani Westphal, 27 ans, laborantine, venue de la Virginie voisine "Les Mexicains homosexuels et nazis font augmenter nos impôts" dit sa pancarte. C'est le genre de peurs que suscitent certains médias comme Fox News,
pour effrayer les gens. Moi, je pense d'ailleurs qu'il n'y a rien de
mal à augmenter les impôts parfois, quand c'est nécessaire. Je suis
venue car j'adhère au message de Jon Stewart: soyons raisonnable,
discutons de nos différences au lieu de nous disputer et de nous crier
dessus. Au fond, nous voulons tous la même chose: que notre pays soit en
bonne position dans le monde, être heureux, avoir des emplois, assurer
un bon avenir à nos enfants... Pourquoi tant de violence politique alors
que la plupart des Américains sont d'accord sur tout cela? Cette
manifestation n'est pas une blague: regardez comme nous sommes nombreux
aujourd'hui! Ce sont les gens raisonnables qui sont dans la rue
aujourd'hui. Généralement on n'entend que les extrémistes, qui crient le
plus fort. Nous ne faisons pas beaucoup de bruit d'habitude, mais nous
nous soucions aussi de notre pays. La plupart des gens qui sont ici
voudraient tout simplement que nous nous écoutions les uns les autres. Mark Dirr, 47 ans, ingénieur, venu du Wisconsin La
politique américaine est devenue puérile. Cela s'est particulièrement
aggravé ces derniers temps. Les hommes politiques ne cessent de se
montrer du doigt, personne ne cherche vraiment à discuter, échanger.
Vous avez-vu les spots de campagne électorale à la télévision? On
exagère, on ment pour diffamer les candidats, on déforme les faits...
Notre pays ne peut pas aller de l'avant ainsi. Moi-même je me définis
comme indépendant, j'ai pratiquement toujours voté aux présidentielles
comme le reste du pays, pour Reagan (dans les années 1980, ndlr) ou pour
Obama en 2008, et je suis fatigué de l'extrême droite comme de
l'extrême gauche. J'ai encore espoir avec Obama. Ce n'est pas en
dix-huit mois qu'il aurait pu remettre d'aplomb la première économie
mondiale. Ceci est la première manifestation à laquelle je participe et
je suis venu exprès du Wisconsin. Car il me semble juste et important
d'exprimer le point du vue du centre, et pas seulement des extrémistes.
Malheureusement, il revient maintenant à des humoristes de tenir ce
langage de raison. Peut-être vais-je devoir m'engager davantage en
politique à l'avenir. Sean Riley (au centre, entre deux amies), 28 ans, venu de Boston, employé de marketing "J'aime la Consitution et Jeasus" dit sa pancarte, avec deux fautes. Vous
verrez beaucoup de fautes dans les pancartes de cette manifestation,
pour se moquer des Tea Parties. Si nous sommes là aujourd'hui, c'est
pour représenter tous les gens qui ne sont pas du Tea Party. Les gens
des Tea Parties sont des ignorants, ils ne comprennent rien à ce qui se
passe, ils ne se soucient du déficit budgétaire que lorsque le président
est démocrate et s'appelle Barack Obama. Pour eux, prendre soin d'un
malade du cancer, c'est du socialisme. Les Tea Parties ne représentent
que 15% peut-être de la population américaine, mais dans les médias on
parle d'eux 75% du temps. A écouter les nouvelles, on croirait que le
pays est en guerre civile, on entend que les extrêmes. Nous sommes là
pour tenter d'y remédier et d'améliorer l'ordre du jour. C'est un peu
triste en effet de voir qu'il revient maintenant aux humoristes de dire
la vérité, mais cela permet aussi à cette manifestation d'être moins
politique et de rassembler beaucoup de monde. Angela Tovar, 31 ans, étudiante en planning urbain, venue de New York Le
problème aujourd'hui aux Etats-Unis est qu'on a deux camps qui
s'opposent et refusent de faire le moindre compromis, cela nous empêche
de faire le moindre progrès. A la veille des élections, il est effrayant
de voir les pubs politiques à la télévision qui cherchent avant tout à
faire peur aux gens. Tout cet extrémisme ne nous mènera nul part.
Beaucoup de nos pancartes sont des blagues, mais notre démarche est
sérieuse: nous voulons un pays plus uni, qui se serre davantage les
coudes. Parfois, il faut des humoristes aussi pour nous rappeler de ne
pas nous prendre trop au sérieux. Thomas Warchol Jr, 25 ans, travailleur social, venu de Pennsylvanie Je

et j'aime mon pays. Je n'ai jamais été si fier que d'être représenté
par Obama. Obama a déja fait des choses exceptionnelles, telles que
réduire d'un tiers les arsenaux nucléaires de la Russie et des
Etats-Unis. Mais de cela, personne ne parle. Pour moi, cette
manifestation n'est pas une blague. Mais parfois, il faut des satires
pour mettre les choses en lumière et montrer combien d'autres sont
ridicules.

Ook het ACV steunt de stakingsaanzegging bij energieleverancier
Electrabel, zegt ACV-vakbondsman Chris Vanmol. De reden voor de
stakingsaanzegging is de mislukte verzoeningspoging donderdag in het
paritair comité voor de gas- en elektriciteitssector over het ontslag
van een werknemer in de afdeling Maintenance Competence Center (MCC).
Gazelco,
de socialistische vakbond voor de gas- en elektricteitssector, en CNE,
de Franstalige christelijke bediendenbond, dienden donderdag al een
nationale stakingsaanzegging in bij Electrabel. Het ACV overlegde met de
werknemers en besloot de aanzegging volledig te steunen. De
stakingsaanzegging loopt volgens Vanmol af op 11 november.
De
sociale onrust over het ontslag laaide twee weken geleden op. Volgens de
vakbonden toen werd de werknemer ontslagen op basis van een dossier dat
tot stand kwam door het recht op privacy ernstig te schenden.

Ainsi, ce matin, le Ministère des Finances a été privé délectricité affirmant symboliquement la détermination des salariés toujours engagés dans la lutte contre le projet gouvernemental sur les retraites.
A
Troyes, le bâtiment de la communauté de lagglomération a été coupé en
gaz et dans lAube, cest le bâtiment du MEDEF qui sest vu coupé
délectricité.
En Normandie les salariés du réseau transport délectricité ont décidé de manifester avec leurs véhicules bleus.
A
lusine dincinération de Saint Ouen, la production de vapeur pour
alimenter le chauffage a été baissée à 20 tonnes/ heure soit 50 % de la
production.
Enfin,
les baisses de production globales depuis hier soir ont atteint 8000 MW
(centrales nucléaires Flamanville, Cruas, Golfech et thermiques Le
Havre, Vitry, Blénod, Cordemais, Bouchain, Hornaing, Emile Huchet, Lucy
et Gardanne.).
Le résultat de ces baisses a obligé EDF dimporter 6 800 MW.

Frankrijk blijven doorgaan en de Elektriciteitsproductie zo wordt
beperkt en bovendien de Belgische elektriciteitssector of toch tenminste
bij Electrabel het volledige productiepark in staking vertrekt vanaf 12
november zoals de Belgische energiebonden vandaag hebben aangekondigd;Het gaat hier nog steeds over het onterechte ontslag van een werknemer
bij Electrabel MCC waarbij o.a satelietfotos werden gebruikt. Momenteel
ligt er al één eenheid in Tihange wegens een olielek stil en is in de
centrale van Rodenhuize eenheid 5 stilgelegd die niet kan hersteld
worden omwille van het niet presteren van overuren door de
onderhoudsdiensten van Electrabel. Als we weten dat er bij elke graad
dat de temperatuur daalt ongeveer 600MW bijkomende productie nodig is en
dat de hoogspanningslijnen nu al extra belast worden wegens de massale
invoer vanuit Frankrijk dan lijkt de combinatie van al deze feiten wel
tot hectische toestanden leiden op vlak van
elektriciteitsbevoorrading...We zijn benieuwd...
A series of mega dams is being planned as a central part of Brazils Accelerated Growth Programme,
which aims to stimulate the countrys economic growth by building a
huge infrastructure of roads and dams, mainly in the Amazon region. The
size of these projects threatens to harm or destroy vast areas of land,
upon which numerous tribal peoples, including several groups of highly
vulnerable uncontacted Indians, depend for their survival. The Belo Monte project is a prime example.
The Brazilian government is planning to construct the Belo Monte mega-dam on the Xingu River in the Amazon.
The
dam would be the third largest in the world and it would flood a large
area of land, dry up certain parts of the Xingu river, cause huge
devastation to the rainforest and reduce fish stocks upon which Indians
in the area, including Kayapó, Arara, Juruna, Araweté, Xikrin, Asurini
and Parakanã Indians, depend for their survival.
The livelihoods of thousands of tribal people who depend on the forest and river for food and water would be destroyed.
The
influx of immigrants to the area during the construction of the dam
threatens to introduce violence to the area and bring diseases to these
Indians, putting their lives at risk.
FUNAI
has stated that there may be some uncontacted Indians near the site of
the dam. These uncontacted Indians would be most at risk as they have
very little resistance to outside diseases, which could be fatal for
them.
Kayapó Indians and other tribes of the area have been protesting against the dam since it was initially proposed in the 1980s.
In
a letter to President Lula, the Kayapó said We dont want this dam to
destroy the ecosystems and the biodiversity that we have taken care of
for millenia and which we can still preserve.

Indians say that they will oppose the dam at all costs, and that if
construction proceeds, the Xingu river will become a river of blood.
Brazils
Public Prosecutors Office, alongside numerous local and international
organisations, have called for the license to be suspended, stating that
the environmental impact studies were incomplete, and that the Indians
and other people who will be affected were not properly consulted.
The
world must know what is happening here, they must perceive how

If
the construction of this dam goes ahead, thousands of people will lose
their homes, their livelihoods, and their lives. Indigenous peoples need
their land in order to survive and, having lived there for centuries,
they have a deep, spiritual link to it.
No amount of compensation or mitigation measures can replace their ancestral land.

Wat is dat voor een beest die Nc? Wel dat lees je daar ook en het is

erg interessante lectuur die ons eens te meer bevestigt dat we hier
best eens een ernstig politiek debat kunnen aangaan over elektriciteits-
en gastarieven. Sinds de liberalisering gaat het hier helemaal de
verkeerde kant uit
Nog
niet zo heel lang geleden verspelden we hier op dit plekje dat heel wat
gezinnen in moeilijkheden zouden komen omwille van de gestegen
energieprijzen, zowel van gas als van elektriciteit. We beweren niet dat
we beschikken over een kristallen bol waarmee we furore zouden maken op
de sinksenfoor tussen de leckmans en de pomme damour maar we vertonen
toch stilaan een lichte vorm van visionair schrijversschap. Alhoewel
zonder veel verdienste want een driepotige koe met sponjsen hersens kon
het al van ver zien aankomen.
Ongeveer
30.000 gezinnen in Vlaanderen zitten zonder verwarming of dreigen
zonder verwarming te komen zitten omdat ze hun energierekening niet
kunnen betalen. De OCMW's staan paraat want de wettelijke
minimumlevering voor aardgas treedt pas op 1 december in werking. Er
werden dit jaar al 80.760 Vlaamse gezinnen door hun energieleverancier
van de klantenlijst gehaald als gevolg van onbetaalde facturen, volgens
de Vereniging van Vlaamse Steden en Gemeenten (VVSG). Dat schrijft De Morgen.
Die gezinnen kunnen alleen nog aankloppen bij Eandis en Infrax, die als
sociale leverancier optreden voor gas en elektriciteit. Maar zo'n
30.000 gezinnen staan intussen ook bij die twee netbeheerders als
wanbetaler geregistreerd en moeten het daardoor stellen met de
minimumdienst van 10 ampère elektriciteit, maar geen aardgas.
Hun
situatie is dramatisch, zeggen armoedeorganisaties. Doordat de gezinnen
nu al zonder verwarming zitten, lijden ze bij de eerste winterprik al
kou, want 10 ampère is niet eens genoeg om een elektrisch radiatortje te
laten draaien. Een ander probleem volgens de hulpverleners, is dat heel
wat gezinnen uit schaamte niet durven uitkomen voor hun energiearmoede.

bij en daar zijn ouderlingen bij die met hun pensioentje niet rond komen
om warm te hebben...Want het spijt ons maar beweren dat niemand kou zal
leiden en dat de OCMWs hen zullen helpen dat nemen wij hier met een
grove schep zout. Ook de facturen van de sociale leverancier in dit
geval Eandis en Infrax moeten betaald worden...en voor wie nu al geen
geld meer heeft zal er tijdens de winter ook geen geld meer zijn... En
intussen worden er maar verduidelijkers aan de lopende band
geproduceerd om financieringswetten uit te vinden die de volgende dan
moet uitvlooien om te kijken dat ze wel juist berekend werden door de
voorganger en baggert men in het federaal parlement maar verder over
B-H-V. Wij vragen ons hier intussen af hoe een kind opgroeit in de kou
en hoe een gepensioneerde zich kan warmen zonder verwarming. Maar dat is
natuurlijk dramatiseren want Vlaanderen is rijk en Vlaaanderen heeft
een schitterende toekomst voor zich...
