Verschiedene Meldungen berichten darüber, dass der Herr Reinhardt Meyer als Bundeszuchtwart gesperrt worden ist durch das Verbandsgericht Süd.

 Zwar hat er noch die Möglichkeit bis zum 30/06 Berufung einzulegen, es ist aber fraglich ob angesichts der verschiedenen internen Verfahren, eine solche Berufung auch Erfolg haben wird.

Die Position des BZW ist schon länger nicht mehr haltbar, das Image des Vereins leidet zunehmend unter den vielen starken Anschuldigungen.

Ein Richter muss oberhalb jeglichen Verdachtes stehen, das ist hier eindeutig nicht länger der Fall. Der Verein hätte seinen BZW sofort einen Schritt zur Seite zwingen müssen, ihn niemals erlauben dürfen weitere, grosse Zuchtschauen richten zu lassen, bis alle Vorwürfe restlos geklärt wären. Er blieb aber im Amt.

Nun scheint endgültig das Ende in Sicht.

Liebe DSH-Fans!

Ich denke, dass alleine die Tatsache, dass soviele kompetente Hundeliebhaber, Vertreter von etwa 25 Rassen, den verschiedensten Vereinen und unterschiedlichen Kompetenzen und Funktionen zusammen ihre Stimme erheben, das dies bisher einmalig ist. Das Buch ist ein interessantes wie spannendes Dokument der Lage des Rassehundes mit Schwerpunk Zucht. Dabei bleibt es nicht beim Aufzeigen der Missstände stehen. Es gibt auch Mut und zeigt Perspektiven für ein besseres Leben für unseren besten Freund und uns allen auf.

Kommentar:

Es wird nach wie vor bei Siegerschauen und sonstige Wettbewerbe die Masse der Hundesportler und der Züchter vorgehalten, der Bundeszuchtwart hätte das Vertrauen des kompletten Vorstandes zugesprochen bekommen, und er dürfte ohne weiteres die BSZS richten. Tatsächlich aber wird durch den Verein zum gleichem Zeitpunkt am 1. September 2009 (erneut) ein Ordnungsverfahren gegen seinen höchsten Vertreter eröffnet (was selbstverständlich erst nach Wochen, bzw. Monate von intensivsten Vorbereitungen und Recherchen geschieht).

Das lässt sich nicht reimen. Ich verstehe nur noch Bahnhof!

Es kommt aber alles noch schlimmer. Tatsächlich aber, wurde durch das Rechtsamt am 17. April 2009 gegen Reinhardt Meyer ein Vereinsordnungsverfahren eröffnet. Zitat: „Die vorliegende Akte lässt erkennen, dass Herr Reinhardt Meyer nicht gewillt ist, die Ordnungen und Regeln des SV als Amtsträger und Repräsentant dieses Vereins zu beachten.“

Mit Einstweiligen Verfügungen und Fristverlängerungen, Ablehnungen wegen Befangenheit und dergleichen, Sie würden staunen über die Vielfalt der rechtlichen Möglichkeiten, muss jetzt der Rechtsweg durchgeackert werden. Kann also noch ne Weile hin und her gehen, der Hundesportler juckt es wenig, wenn er seinen Hund nur arbeiten kann.

Was der Hundesportler aber sehr wohl interessiert, ist ein fairer Wettbewerb, nicht im geringstem bei der BSZS. Der ist aber nicht mehr gegeben. Ich verweise auf das Hammer Protokoll samt Eidesstattliche Erklärungen, und die auch hier wieder angesprochene Stellung, es wurde 10.000 Euro geboten (für eine gute Platzierung?)

Wenn ein Verein sich gezwungen sieht, Ordnungsverfahren gegen seinen höchsten Schiri zu eröffnen, dann kann der nicht die Bundessiegerzuchtschau, eine Weltmeisterschaft, richten. Einfache Sache! Der Bundeszuchtwart hätte zur Seite treten, oder dazu gezwungen werden müssen (man kann ja auch mal krank werden ohne Image-Verlust). Keineswegs aber hätte man nach aussen verstehen lassen dürfen, der Bundeszuchtwart hätte das vollste Vertrauen der SV-Spitze. Sowas heisst Volksverdummung. Angesichts der vielen intelligenten Hundesportler die sich weltweit mit einander verständigen und sich austauschen, ein folgenschwerer Fehler. Dieser Image-Verlust geht jetzt auf Kosten des Vereins.

Commentary:

The public of gsd-sportsmen and breeders has always been told at the Siegershow and other competitions, that the national breed warden still holds the confidence of the complete board of directors, and he would be allowed to judge the BSZS. Actually however, a court procedure against its highest representative (again) is started up by the association at the same time on September 1st 2009 (what obviously happens only after weeks or months of most intensive preparations and investigation).

That cannot be rhymed. It’s all Greek to me!

The worst is yet to come. Actually however, the association, through its legal office, had opened a court procedure against Reinhardt Meyer before, on April 17^th 2009. Quotation: "The presented records indicate, that Mr. Reinhardt Meyer is not willing to respect the orders and regulations of the SV as an official and representative of this society".

With temporary decrees and delays, rejections of judges because of suspicion of bias, etc., you would marvel over the variety of the legal possibilities, one must now struggle the long road of courts. It may take a while going back and forth, but it doesn’t itch the gsd-sportsman, he only wants to work his dog.

What DOES interest the dog sportsmen however, is a fair competition, particularly at the BSZS. But there is no sign of that at all. I refer to the Hammer Protocol including the testimonials presented therewith, and the issue again addressed here, of an offer for 10,000 Euro (for a good positioning?)

If an association is forced to open court procedures against its highest referee, then he cannot judge the Siegershow, being the world championship really. Simple as that! The national breed warden should have stepped aside or been forced to do so (one can also become sick for a change without any image loss). But in no way whatsoever should the association have made the public believe, that the national breed warden was still holding the fullest confidence of the SV-top. Such a thing is called deliberate deception of the public. In view of the many intelligent dog sportsmen exchanging views and interacting with one another on a worldwide basis, this was a momentous mistake. Now this image loss goes to the account of the SV.

Nicht nur die Welpenzahlen sanken rapide ab. (Anno 2008 konnte man nur 17.560 Welpen registrieren - da wo man in den letzten Jahren auf circa 20.000 Eintragungen hängen geblieben war. Das bedeutet immerhin eine Halbierung vom Jahre 1995, als es noch 34.295 Neugeborenen im SV gab.) Auch der Mitgliederschwund ist ein riesiges Problem. Der Verein wurde sogar offiziell gespalten, obwohl es nur einen einzigen Deutschen Schäferhund geben kann. Wie viele SV’ler das Lager noch wechseln möchten, wenn die Hartgesottenen endlich einsehen, dass man Raisenden, Entschuldigung, Reisenden nicht halten kann, und wie viele SV-Züchter später/bald folgen und wechseln werden, ist heute noch nicht einzuschätzen. Wird sich das alles noch rechnen lassen, oder müssen wir bald mit viel höhere Mitgliedsbeiträge und eine erhebliche Steigerung aller Kosten rechnen?

Die Behauptung, es drehe sich beim SV alles nur noch ums Geld, wird in der Doku „Schäferhund Pflegefall, das Ende einer Deutschen Legende!?“ knallhart ins Wohnzimmer und um die Welt geschickt, und für die schwerwiegende Behauptungen im Film kommen keinerlei Dementi des Vereins. Es ist nicht so lange her, da wurde ein kurzer Artikel im Spiegel noch vehement mit zig Argumenten vom SV-Pressesprecher bestritten, zum aktuellen Film aber, der nun wirklich ‚nicht nur im ARD‘ zum besten Sendezeit ausgestrahlt und bei andere Sender wiederholt wurde (und dessen Veröffentlichung angeblich verhindert werden sollte), bekommen wir nur ein ohrenbetäubendes Schweigen, obwohl angeblich-intensiv-recherchierte Berichte über maffiose Strukturen sowie Steuerfahndungsinteresse bei grosse Züchter (aktuelle Gerüchte nach zwischenzeitlich auch bei der Geschäftsstelle) in der Reportage dokumentiert wurden, sogar mit Beteiligung eines altgedienten und allerseits geschätzten SV-Richters. Er hat nun wirklich kein Blatt vor den Mund genommen, der Herr Gruber. Muss der Verein aber nicht voll dagegen halten? Müssen Vorwürfe nicht sofort verneint und aktiv auf's Schärfste zurückgewiesen werden?

Der Bundeszuchtwart, als höchster Vertreter des Vereins, wenn es darum geht die Rasse gesund zu erhalten (immer mehr Züchter beschweren sich, nicht nur über Rückenprobleme - neben uneingeschränkter HD- und ED-Grössenordnung, auch über Reproduktionsschwierigkeiten, zahllose Hündinnen welche nicht aufgenommen haben etc., und sie haken ab, geben die Zucht auf (*), nicht im geringsten weil die Kundenansprüche auf gesunde Tiere immer mehr vor dem Amtsgericht enden), der Bundeszuchtwart also, steht nach wie vor unter schwerer Verdacht, der übrigens seit 2 Bundessiegerzuchtschauen nicht ausgeräumt wurde. Das kann sich kein Schiri im Fussball, oder kein anderer Verband leisten. Unbescholten müssen die Spitzenleute sein. Und müssen sich die Mitglieder das alles gefallen lassen? Man würde meinen, der Verein würde sich seinen Mitgliedern gegenüber offener aufstellen, mit ihnen kommunizieren, wenn sie denn fragen, und sie nicht abspeisen mit der Meldung: “Über ein laufendes Verfahren… bla ba bla“. In einem modernen Verein ist Transparenz gefragt. Aber Fehlanzeige.

Ist/sind die Frage(n) der Mitglieder erlaubt? Welches Verfahren? Um was geht es? Was ist die Stellungnahme der Betroffenen, bzw. die Stellungnahme des Vereins? Wie soll man umgehen mit dem Imageverlust, der Film war nun wirklich keine Werbung für den Deutschen Schäferhund. Welcher Kommission untersucht die Vorwürfe und wie lange dauert das? Wann wird die Zuchtordnung drastisch den neuen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen angepasst, damit die Rasse nicht weiter erkrankt? …

Viele Menschen würden sich freuen über Antworte, konkrete Antworte.

Ich darf Ihnen ein Schreiben aus dem Ausland anbieten, es ist meiner Meinung nach beispielhaft für das was in den Köpfen vieler kleiner Züchter umgeht. Mit den gestellten Fragen fühlte ich mich überfordert, konnte die nur unzureichend beantworten, ich bin ja kein Kynologe. Im Verein sollten aber welche sitzen, vielleicht finden sie bessere Antworte. Solche die diesen kleinen Hobby-Züchter (Basis des Vereins!) helfen können, damit er seine liebevolle, allerdings enttäuschende Zucht doch nicht einstellen muss.

Nehmen Sie sich doch bitte die Zeit sich diesen offenherzigen Brief zur Gemüte zu führen.

Ich wünsche in der Zwischenzeit jeden seinen gesunden Deutschen Schäferhund.

thank you for taking the time to answer to my email.
It helped me clear the picture and decide what to do, eventually.
I cannot afford being so romantic as you are, at least as a breeder.

I do not think anyone in the SV board are willing to see the problem straight in the eye. They are very familiar with it, I do not think that anything can be done in order for things to start changing.

I think that the primary problem arises from the wrong implementation by the majority of breeders of the existing somewhat lacking regulations that should be more strict. This implementation is guided by profit mainly.

Yes, the regulations could (and should be) more strict (e.g. breeding dogs with HD & ED a1-normal only) however this could lead to a further on purpose deception of the SV by the breeders who are unwilling to lose money by taking all a2 & a3 dogs out of their breeding program. Yet, I have seen dogs with HD & ED problems emerging from healthy parents!!! This could mean 2 things:

Either the a1 parents are not real a1
OR
the ED, HD problem has managed to lock itself deep in the DNA of the breed.

I believe it is a little bit of both as I have seen it happen in my own breeding (thank God only once and in a puppy that I kept for myself) from very health a1 parents but it is also questionable the high incidence of HD-ED from "healthy" (????) parents in puppies I have imported from Germany (5 puppies out of 15).

At present, I know that x-rays of problematic dogs are switched with x-rays of dogs with no problem, colour is being changed and the SV test cannot detect it, etc. It happens all the time in everyday life and in other activities (e.g. sports, with forbidden medication). I also know that SchH-exams can be bought without even the dog being there!

So, maybe, the SV regulations should not be changed as the stricter regulations will mean a greater degree of false x-rays, SchH-exams, etc.

It looks like one has to become a scientist and experiment with lines that give the less problems. But this is outside my goals as a hobbyist breeder. It needs to invest a lot of money in research and work a lot with trial & error and also a long time in order to achieve and furthermore to stabilize the good results. And even if one would achieve this, it would be a utopia to breed such dogs when the majority of breeders will continue to breed in the exactly opposite direction guided by profit and discredit the breed. It is a simple equation in economics: profit margins increase WHEN breeding costs decrease.

I am also familiar with the fact that all purebreds have health problems as nature does not leave unpunished our selective breeding.
I have also understood that there cannot be a dog that is good at everything. Belgian shepherds (Mals) are dogs for sport but are not suitable for the average owner, Rottis are very good guard dogs but are potentially dangerous, etc. So, the target of the Germans to construct a breed that can do it all, is a fallacy. In the last decades it has been guided by profit so as to make a dog that can serve in every situation in terms of looks and temperament. Nowadays, is not guided by profit anymore. It is rather drawn by it.

I do not agree that only the TOP breeders cause the problems. The majority of breeders today are guided by profit and try to make the most out of it. It has been reported to me by many, MANY people who in the past have purchased dogs from Germany and from not so famous breeders. Otherwise, who would want to engage in breeding dogs who statistically present such a high percentage in HD-ED incidence?????

GSD breeding has become a profitable business and I do not think that many are willing to lose money in order to make it better. It has reached its peak and now the breed is going down, slowly but steadily.

I do not think that any conscious breeder should breed GSDs today. Thus, he only makes the breed more popular. And popularity is the last thing the breed needs for now. The breed needs to stay a bit behind until most of the profit-guided adventurers see no more money involved and quit.

The more popular a breed is, the worse for the breed. GSD, Labs, Dobermans, Goldens. All with loads of problems.

I remember, when I was looking to import my first purebred GSD from Germany, I asked the German breeder: Why, even today, with a so wide gene pool, do breeders continue to breed with a 2-3 linebreeding (not to mention 3-3, etc). His answer was: "Wow! What a question! It is for achieving fast and stable results in a litter". The "fast" part I have seen and understood as for the "stable" part, I have totally seen otherwise and disagree strongly! All my breedings with no "inzucht" have gone far far better that those with 3-4 or 4-5!

What about the other genetic problems? Loose ears for example. E.g. everybody knows that Vegas or Kwantum give a very high incidence of this problem yet breeders use them a lot! Should this be due to the other "fine" qualities that they give and so it is worth it to have dogs with loose ears and fix them using "Ohrenstuetzen" as a norm? Well, apart from appearance and conformation, I have not seen the soundness of temperament of their progeny that a "working dog" should have....

I could write so much about it and I do not know when this would end. That is why my thoughts are not so well organized in this email. I do not know where to start. Many pieces of many problems come to my mind all over.

So, I have decided to put my breeding aside. I'd rather use my money to have fun with my dogs and my family than investing in x-rays, SchH-titles and show titles of a breed that is ruined.

It is my belief that ruining a breed which is pure and, therefore, with very fine balance, is by far much more easy, than bringing it together again.

Of course you may use my letter to raise people awareness however, I do not think that anyone who can change something are willing to listen. They hear you all right but they do not want to listen to you. Please use it anonymously however, as I am not willing anymore to hear excuses from the experts. I have become my own expert in 6 years that I am dealing with the breed. The major expertise that I have gained is that today GSDs are a very profitable business.

I think the only ones that want to listen are simple people that have faced these problems and love their dogs so much that they would like something to be done about it. But these are not organized in Clubs, they are but mere individuals whose voice is lost because of their scattering all over the world...

Even though I believe that very little will change (if anything at all), I wish you the best of luck.

Nicht nur die Gesundheit des DSH wurde verschandelt, leider auch sein Wesen, mitunter die zweitwichtigste Anforderung an einem Hund. Wenn Sie meine Zusammenfassung gelesen haben, und die dort enthaltene Informationen über die Beteiligung an den letzten Siegerschauen, so wurden Sie sicherlich über die riesige Mengen an Ausfällen beim diesjährigen Schutzdienst auf der BSZS in Ulm überrascht.

Was sagte Herr Lux, der ehemalige, langjährige Geschäftsführer des SV im Film "Pflegefall Schäferhund"?

Sprecher: „Wettkampf, Sieger, Pokale. In der Zucht des Deutschen Schäferhundes gibt es keinem Platz für Verlierer. Hinter dem Deutschen Schäferhund steht die Sehnsucht nach alten Tugenden.“

O-Ton Lux: „ Das Grossartigste an ihm ist, dass es ihm gibt. Hihihihi. Aber was isses? Er ist sehr arbeitsam, fleissig, euh, er ist gelehrig, er ist „führig“ wie wir sagen, euh, er ist ein Hund der gut in die jetzige Umwelt passt und er ist schlicht und ergreifend ein Freund und Helfer des Menschen.“

Und zum Thema Schutzdienst bei der Siegerschau sagte Herr Lux:

„Das ist notwendig um einfach die Besten der Besten küren zu können, im Gegensatz zu anderen, euh, Veranstaltungen. Hier muss der Hund nicht nur zeigen wie er aussieht! Er muss einen sogenannten Schutzdienst ableisten. Hier muss er also auch unter Beweis stellen, nicht nur, dass er, wenn sein Herr angegriffen wird, ihn verteidigt, sonder auch sofort wieder rausgeht, er muss Gehorsam zeigen, das heisst der Hund ist auch Schutzhund, natürlich, er ist bei der Polizei, beim Militär, beim Zoll, bei euh, all den Behörden…"

Excerpt from one of my studies published on this board "Was vererben die Sieger und die Auslese-Hunde?" (HD1-hips and Miscellaneous in the SV Kennel Club. As close to the truth as one can get! ):

"Every year the „Impressions of the Sieger Show“ written by the Englishman David Payne belong to the most „GOOGLEd“ themes of the Shepherd Dog-fans. When they surprisingly failed to be published this year (2008), I have made an enquiry. David wrote me the following:

Thank you for your email, I have received several similar emails, they are appreciated even though they make me feel uncomfortable.

I am fine, and my family are most precious in my life. My dogs have never been better, and my Videx Rakell is an absolute superstar, and I don’t say that without sincerity.

I wrote in my IMPRESSIONS what I genuinely felt. Around the World, many people read my IMPRESSIONS, some enjoyed them and others hated them, and many shades in between, it was also like this in Germany. Until the SV take positive steps towards securing our breeds future through integrity, honesty, fairness and transparency, our breeds hobbies and sports will disintegrate.

The SV started the colour testing then after 1 year stopped it, a victory for the cheats. SV Judges can still Judge dogs that they breed, and dogs that they have sold, or they have placed in someone else's name. This is fundamentally wrong! Judges at the Sieger Show appear to favour dogs owned or connected with other judges and their friends, the same happens with top males for decking’s, judges have priority because the owners know they need progeny bred and owned by judges. Money rules the breed, in Germany and all around the world. There is very little equality, fairness or honesty in our sport. Anyone who challenges any or all of this is criticised and pilloried both directly and indirectly, especially slyly “behind the hand” by those who gain most by the current system. These people have ‘followers’ who do their bidding, and go anonymous on the internet to spread their spineless garbage. I am now giving consideration of leaving the show scene, and all that entails, and simply enjoying my dogs away from the evil which besets our wonderful breed. Not writing my IMPRESSIONS 2008 is a step in that direction. Far too few honest and sincere people in our breed are prepared to put their heads above the parapet and speak or write about all the wrong that is being done, and pursue major changes that are so desperately required. Our breeds future is precarious and there is very little hope. As hope disintegrates more people in our breed will leave, and who can blame them?

I daresay Tibet will be independent quicker, than that the SV Kennel Club will change its ways. However! We already have a black president in the White House (which was considered impossible). Now we need a black Pope in the Vatican and only then will we have… a new Kennel Club. (While there’s life, there’s hope!) By that time however, the healthy GSD could already have completely vanished."

Dear Sportsfriends,

SV-National Breed Warden Reinhardt Meyer has lead his judges into completing the hyena-profile of the GSD.
THIS IS NOT what we understand by improving the breed! We can do nothing but wonder, if it can go any further yet.

Although the maker of the video certainly had no intension whatsoever to prove my thesis, unvoluntarily he does. Do watch it, it's an eyecatcher, very well made, good music, and very, very sad!

Dear Sportsfriends,

after the Sieger Show in Ulm, a lot of people went home with shattered dreams. I myself have noticed, how my predictions and fears have sadly enough been confirmed once more.

With tears in my eyes, feeling very sorry for the untrained dogs AND the unprepared owners, I have watched the Schutzdienst, a hallucinating experience (once again?) Folks! THIS is the worldchampionship! Don't come unprepared!

1985 German Shepherd Dogs might have been registered for the contest allright, but only 912 finally made the Standard. Way too many competitors did not even make it past Schutzdienst. The result of bad management and bad steering at the top of the association?
