After spending two weeks laid up in the hospital due to an enlarged kidney, SmackDown Diva Michelle McCool has been discharged and is recovering at home.
Being forced to spend the holidays cooped up in the confines of florescent lights and monitored visiting hours has McCool thankful that her hospitalization is over.
Im home now, she said. But two-weeks in a hospital is enough to drive anyone insane. [Thanksgiving dinner] certainly wasnt the same; it was nothing compared to good old family cooking.
The affects of the enlarged kidney caused her to have an electrolyte imbalance, a potentially deadly condition if not treated.
Id been performing in pain during our overseas trip; thats when [my back] became an issue. I just couldnt ignore it any longer, she said.
Upon returning to the states from WWEs European tour, she admitted herself for treatment. Tests soon revealed that along with her enlarged kidney, she also had a broken sternum. The combination of the two injuries caused paralyzing pain.
Fortunately, the shooting pain in my back masked the pain of my broken sternum, McCool said.
Although shes now in the comforts of her own home, McCool said theres nothing comfortable about her status.
Im still recovering; Ive lost a lot of strength and still have trouble sleeping, laughing or even talking.
Fortunately for her, co-workers and WWE fans have been there to support her during her time of need.
The people I work with have kept my spirits high, she said. Their cards, balloons and voicemails are more than I could ever ask for. WWE fans emails and cards have also been very helpful.
There is no date set for when McCool will be back in action. With the recovery process calling for rest and relaxation, its impossible to pinpoint when shell be able to rejoin the SmackDown roster.
I cant predict a date, but I cant wait to get back; Ill be okay once Im back at WWE.
STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 30, 2006 World Wrestling Entertainment® (NYSE:WWE) today issued the following statement:
The father of a nine-year-old boy claimed that three 15-year-old boys beat up his nine-year-old son practicing the smackdown game. The boy died one month later.
The chief of the Detective Bureau charged with investigating the highly suspicious nature of the child's death specifically has stated in the media that there is no reason to believe the death of this child had anything to do with watching wrestling.
The police noted an autopsy was forbidden by the childs family for religious reasons. As a result the police have indicated in the media that because there is no permission to conduct the autopsy, they are currently asking for the childs medical records from the hospital.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has been chosen by SI.com writer Andy Gray as his personal choice for Sports Illustrateds 2006 Sportsman of the Year award. Grays pick is based on WWEs upcoming Tribute to the Troops tour.
While five days may not seem like much of a commitment, it's five more days than any other professional sports team spent in Iraq this year. More importantly, the company doesn't make a dime off the trip. It's simply a way for McMahon and the rest of the WWE to say thank you to a group of people who are too often overlooked, Gray wrote on SI.coms My Sportsman site.
Other SI.com writers picks include NFLs Peyton Manning and Tiki Barber, MLBs Jim Leyland and NASCARs Mark Martin. Past Sportsman of the Year award recipients include the 2004 Boston Red Sox and their fans, the PGAs Tiger Woods and NBAs Michael Jordan. The prestigious award will be announced on Dec. 4.
SmackDown Diva Michelle McCool has been hospitalized for what she thought was general sickness and acute back pain. The decision to admit herself may have saved her life.
An ultra sound and other extensive tests revealed that McCool was suffering from an enlarged kidney and an electrolyte imbalance. The condition is severe enough that she has been hospitalized for over a week--including Thanksgiving, so far.
According to WWE Doctor Ferdinand Rios, had the condition been left untreated, McCool could have encountered other major health issues such as heart or kidney failure.
Her condition was complicated by an electrolyte imbalance; sometimes those cannot be corrected immediately, and due to lack of sodium [in her body] she needed a lot of intravenous fluids, said Rios.
During treatment McCool mentioned a singeing pain in her chest to her doctors.
Michelle most likely suffered a fractured sternum from one of her matches where she may have been kicked in the chest, explained Rios.
Rios said the support and well-wishing McCool has received from her family and WWE fans has helped keep her upbeat and headed down the road to recovery. Without further complications, she should be home in time for the upcoming holiday season.
Shes getting better and is getting stronger, and at this time is free from infection, Rios said. When I spoke to her she was in good spirits.
Roddy Piper diagnosed with cancer November 27, 2006
WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper has been diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. Also known as Hodgkins disease, Hodgkins lymphoma is a form of cancer found in the bodys lymphatic tissue. The lymphatic system helps filter out bacteria and is important in fighting diseases.
Piper was sent home early from WWEs early-November tour of the United Kingdom and hospitalized for surgery, where doctors removed a mass at the spinal cord with an enlarged lymph node. The mass was completely removed, but the lymph node was positive for Hodgkins lymphoma.
Radiation therapy is used to treat Hodgkins lymphoma; it is an extremely successful procedure, so the prognosis is very good for Piper.
