DES MOINES, Iowa. The fallout from Judgment Day was in full force on SmackDown, as new champions celebrated, while others fought to find a taste of gold.
After the ultimate opportunist, Edge kicked off SmackDown reveling in his own glory, General Manager Theodore Long announced to the World Heavyweight Champion and our fans that a match would take place to determine the No. 1 contender to the title. With the winner facing Edge at One Night Stand in a Steel Cage Match, Batista was able to defeat Mark Henry, Finlay and Kane in a Fatal Four Way to earn the No. 1 contenders position.
Montel Vontavious Porter brought his newly won United States Championship to Des Moines to celebrate his victory over Chris Benoit at Judgment Day. The brash, swaggering Superstar was throwing his bling in the air and in the face of the Rabid Wolverine, but his celebration was cut short when he let his ego get the best of him and demanded too much from Chris Benoit.
In other SmackDown action, Paul London & Brian Kendrick stepped into the ring against the ever-dangerous duo of William Regal and Dave Taylor, with each team hoping to become the next challengers to Deuce & Dominos WWE Tag Team Championships. London & Kendrick picked up the victory by disqualification when the boys from the Other Side of the Tracks interfered. All three teams then brawled, which has led to a Triple Threat Match first announced here on WWE.com for the WWE Tag Team Championship Friday on SmackDown. (Preview SmackDown)
Another SmackDown Superstar with tag team gold around his waist is Matt Hardy, who took on The Miz in one-on-one action. Despite perhaps one of his best performances to date, Miz was unable to get the pinfall, instead losing when Matt Hardy delivered the Twist of Fate. Hardy continues his impressive streak, as he continues to climb the SmackDown ladder.
Also on Friday, SmackDowns resident redneck Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero in a non-title match. Yang appears to have the number of the Cruiserweight Champion, having pinned him in two straight weeks.
Moving from one Guerrero to another, General Manager Theodore Long has named Vickie Guerrero the Assistant General Manager of SmackDown, so that he can spend more time with his girl Kristal. Vickie told her new boss, I promise I wont let our fans down. While Vickie seems to have turned over a new leaf, even Long has his reservations.
One Diva who is used to letting our fans down, or rather, making them duck for cover is Jillian. The wannabe pop princess debuted her new song Jill & Tonic, and the results are the same a toxic mix. The tone-deaf Diva caught the ire of Boogeyman, and as she tried to escape, Michelle McCool threw her into the ring, leaving Jillian to a foul worming by Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman.

CM Punk & Rob Van Dam def. Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von (disqualification)
Results:Experiencing painful revenge
By Bryan Robinson
May 22, 2007
DES MOINES, Iowa With One Night Stand less than two weeks away, the Land of the Extreme was awaiting the eagerly anticipated one-on-one Street Fight between Mr. McMahon and Bobby Lashley for the ECW World Title. Lashley won the right to challenge the Chairman by running the gauntlet and defeating four competitors Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and Shane McMahon on Raw.
While all of ECW was wondering whether Lashley will finally get his ultimate revenge on Mr. McMahon at One Night Stand, New Breed leader Elijah Burke focused on avenging his loss to CM Punk at Judgment Day. The so-called "Paragon of Virtue" had promised his New Breed that he would lead by example and teach Punk a lesson for infiltrating and trying to break apart the group from within.
But Burke fell short in a hard-fought battle at Judgment Day. Tonight, with the help of fellow New Breeder Marcus Cor Von, Burke got a measure of revenge against Punk in a tag team war. They didn't get the victory, but they left a painful mark on the Straightedge Superstar & Rob Van Dam.
RVD had vengeance on his mind after Snitsky whacked him on the head with a steel chair last week on ECW on Sci Fi. This week, the yellow-toothed deranged monster made Tommy Dreamer his latest victim in the trail of bodies he has left since entering ECW. However, when Snitsky tried to demolish Dreamer the same way he did to RVD, the one-of-a-kind Superstar saved his fellow ECW Original, and sent the bully slinking back to the locker room.
Snitsky has an impressive win-loss record in ECW, but one Superstar who has had problems getting victories lately is Matt Striker. After getting pinned in New Breed losses to the Major Brothers and Lashley, Striker had lost the confidence of Burke and the rest of the group. Tonight, Burke told Striker he would feel his wrath if he lost his singles match with Brett Major.
This motivated Striker as the Extreme Educator defeated the Major Brother. "See, I belong here," a relieved Striker said to himself and the crowd as he walked back to the locker room.
One former New Breed member who is seeking new blood after leaving the group is Kevin Thorn. ECW's fanged freak continued the new chapter in his career by bulldozing another hapless foe on ECW on Sci Fi.
ST. LOUIS For any WWE Superstar, suffering two concussions in a short span of time is a dangerous scenario. But for someone with a history of concussions like Shawn Michaels, it may end up being career-threatening. HBK has a history of concussions going back to 1995, when he was assaulted and forced to relinquish the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, Michaels has been no stranger to brain trauma, even nearly losing a chance at achieving his boyhood dream of winning the WWE Championship thanks to a concussion.
Injuries are a common part of sports, but a concussion is not just any injury. Because of the physical nature of any sport, concussions might be the toughest thing to overcome. Shawn Michaels has been around a long time and fought his way back from numerous injuries, but at this point in his career, a pair of severe concussions might be too much to overcome.
Why? Well, research from a number of leading neurologists has shown that multiple concussions can cause permanent brain injuries, possibly leading to debilitating memory loss, confusion, dementia and even depression. In the world of sports-entertainment, thats a dangerous proposition. If a Superstar steps into the ring with impaired brain function, he can put not only himself, but also his partners or opponents into a dangerous situation. Even with the fighting spirit and heart of a champion that HBK possesses, this trauma might be too much for ANY athlete to overcome.
In April 2001, former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman was forced to retire from the sport due to the effects of suffering too many concussions. In his final two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Aikman suffered four concussions, the last of which came on what would be the final play of his career.
During his emotional retirement speech, Aikman choked back tears as he said that I know its the right thing for me because of my health, concussions It took its toll. Aikman later added that I want to play, but I just cant do that anymore. Lets hope that the same is not true for Shawn Michaels.
Another example of what concussions can do to an athlete is the case of Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Corey Koskie. After suffering a freak concussion last July, Koskie has yet to return to Major League Baseball and may never be able to at all. As he told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel in a February interview, months later he still had days where feelings of dizziness and nausea wouldnt allow him to get out of bed.
I've talked to a lot of guys who've been through this and they say the worst thing you can do is put a time frame on it. You take it day by day and see how you feel that day, Koskie said in that interview.
A year later, Koskie is still on the sidelines from just that one concussion. Given Shawn Michaels history of having multiple concussions over the years, is this the future HBK is staring at?
Michaels has the heart of a champion and the spirit of a warrior. But while his heart may be telling him go, HBK must ultimately listen to his brain, which will give him the answer to the biggest question of all. Could the events of the past few weeks end Shawn Michaels career once and for all? Only time will tell.

Gauntlets galore
By Louie Dee
May 21, 2007
MOLINE, Ill. - Gauntlets were run, thrown and explained as Raw invaded the Quad Cities just 24 hours after Judgment Day.
After being screwed out of the ECW World Title at Judgment Day, Bobby Lashley had the opportunity to earn his rematch on Raw. To get the chance to face Mr. McMahon in a Street Fight at One Night Stand, all Lashley had to do was run the gauntlet and defeat four men in one night. Despite the odds, Lashley did just that, defeating Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and then Shane McMahon to earn another crack at the WWE Chairman on June 3.
The Great Khali also felt he was screwed at Judgment Day, explaining through his interpreter that his foot was under the ropes when he tapped out to John Cenas STFU. The Champ, who never backs down from a fight, accepted Khalis challenge for another WWE Title Match at One Night Stand but for the fourth time in four weeks on Raw, Cena found himself beat down by the massive challenger.
Randy Orton, who may have ended Shawn Michaels career at Judgment Day, came to the Raw ring to explain exactly why he did so: An injury is a bullseye, and I did what any professional would do I exploited it, said the cocky Legend Killer. Read the whole story
Raw also saw a Judgment Day rematch, as Carlito got another crack at Ric Flair. While the teacher took the student to school at Judgment Day, the result was much different one night later. After the match ended in a double count-out when both men spilled to the floor, the Southpaw from San Juan viciously attacked his former mentor. Showing a total lack of respect, Carlito dropped Flair with a pair of brutal Backstabbers on the arena floor, sadistically targeting the back that has been Flairs Achilles heel since being broken in a plane crash early in his career, before further disrespecting Flair by spitting apple in his face. Later this week, Carlito will hopefully explain his disrespectful and downright diabolical actions in an exclusive WWE.com interview.
Speaking of different results, The Hardys received some help from an unexpected source. With The Worlds Greatest Tag Team sitting in on commentary, Matt & Jeff defeated Johnny Nitro & Kenny Dykstra, but when Nitro, Dykstra, Benjamin & Haas attacked the World Tag Team Champions, Cade & Murdoch came out to help the team they had just challenged for the gold one night earlier. Once the scavengers were sent packing, Cade & Murdoch applauded The Hardys and raised their hands in victory, once again continuing to prove they have turned over a new leaf. Cade & Murdoch will shed some more light on their new attitude later this week in an exclusive WWE.com interview.
The Divas were also in high demand on Raw this week. Candice Michelle scored an impressive win, pinning Womens Champion Melina in a non-title match. Candice motioned that she wants the gold after defeating Victoria weeks ago, and that goal may be within closer reach after this win. Also, Ashley and company heated things up as she introduced the world premiere of Timbalands new video Throw it on Me, which features a half-dozen delicious Divas including Raws own Torrie Wilson.
