LOS ANGELES With Extreme Rules just nine nights away, SmackDown found a home in California. But unfortunately for some Superstars, the STAPLES Center was an inhospitable environment.
World Heavyweight Champion Edge & Chris Jericho def. Jeff Hardy (2-on-1 Handicap Match) (PHOTOS | VIDEO) The match was supposed to include Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio. But, the odds shifted after Chris Jericho disguised as a fan dressed like Mysterio attacked the masked Superstar prior to the match, going as far as trying to rip off his mask. With Mysterio out, Hardy was forced to take on high-caliber opponents, World Heavyweight Champion Edge and Jericho all by himself. Despite a valiant effort, Hardy was unable to come up with a win. After a hard-hitting spear from The Rated-R Superstar to get the win, Hardy was brutalized by The Ultimate Opportunist with a ladder.
The good, the bad & the ugly (PHOTOS | VIDEO) At the start of the night, Extreme Rules opponents Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho traded verbal barbs. After listening to Jericho rant, Mysterio exclaimed, "Your word is worthless"!
After Mysterio, Jericho moved on to verbally assault Mickey Rourke, star of the movie "The Wrestler, who was in attendance. "Rourke, you're lucky I'm too much of a professional to not come out of this ring, walk straight up to you and punch you in your face right now, claimed Jericho.
Things finally imploded when Jericho took a sucker punch at Mysterio. But the agile champion was able to avoid the blow and drive Jericho out of the ring.
The Great Khali & R-Truth def. Dolph Ziggler & Mike Knox (PHOTOS) Things got off to an emotion-charged start when Khali joined R-Truth in singing his signature entrance song, Whats Up? The Punjabi Playboy kept the momentum going into the tag team encounter. Using The Punjabi Plunge, the 7-footer was able to put away big Mike Knox.
Womens Champion Melina def. Alicia Fox (Non-title) (PHOTOS) The sexy, smart and powerful Womens Champion Melina proved too much for Alicia Fox. After the win, Michelle McCool came into the ring and grabbed the champions title from the referee. Although McCool returned the title to its rightful owner, she did so with a shove, as if to say, its yours for now. (Diva match-maker)
John Morrison def. Umaga (Disqualification) (PHOTOS | VIDEO) Just like he did to CM Punk last week, Umaga not only tied up John Morrison with a Samoan Strap, but used the illegal weapon to beat his opponent unmercifully. After the brutal display, CM Punk rushed into the ring, smashing his Extreme Rules opponent over the head with his steel Money in the Bank briefcase.
Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas def. Cryme Tyme (PHOTOS) Formerly known as The Worlds Greatest Tag Team, Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas lived up to their moniker in L.A. The Gold Standard dropped Shad with Pay Dirt to stake claim to a win.
Eve def. Layla (PHOTOS | VIDEO) Once again, Eve got the better of Layla, picking up a win in their much-anticipated singles match. In the weeks leading up to their match, the two competed in Cryme Tyme's Hand Slammin' Jammy Jam Challenge and Brooklyn Break-Down Diva Dance Off, with Eve coming out on top in both contests. And, powder was flying everywhere when the two Divas exchanged fisticuffs at a backstage makeup table recently.
The official website of Mr. Kennedy, www.Ken-Kennedy.com, released the following statement in light of his release from World Wrestling Entertainment last night:
"Ken is physically 100 percent healthy, and very optimistic about his future in the business. More details will follow."
It was just announced that at the July 8th WWE house show event in Japan, WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat will come out of retirement to compete in a singles match against with recent rival Chris Jericho.
In an update on Christy Hemme, she was scheduled to meet with TNA officials this week to discuss her future in the organization. As far as wrestling is concerned, that doesn't appear to be an option for her for the foreseeable future.
In January, Hemme was diagnosed with two herniated discs in her neck suffered while training in the ring with AJ Styles. She decided against having surgery, instead opting for a procedure called neuro cranial realignment in which two rods are inserted up the nose and a balloon is blown in the head to manipulate the cranial bones to relieve pressure off the neck.
The 2004 Diva Search winner returned to the gym two weeks ago. One person close to her believed she was retired from wrestling, but Hemme herself said during a radio interview last week that she was working hard towards wrestling in the squared circle once again.
World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of Raw Superstar Mr. Kennedy (Ken Kennedy) as of today, May, 29 2009. WWE wishes Ken the best in all future endeavors.
- The early word on Mr. Kennedys surprising release from World Wrestling Entertainment last night is that almost injuring Randy Orton as well as himself during his match on RAW on Monday night was the straw that broke the camels back.
Kennedy made his return to RAW on Monday night after a ten month hiatus rehabbing a badly injured shoulder. As bad luck would have it, Kennedy ended up injuring his wrist after taking the RKO from Orton. Much more seriously in the eyes of management, Orton nearly re-injured his bad shoulder as a result of an errant maneuver on the part of Kennedy.
Following the show, Orton and Kennedy had words backstage, although it was not heated. Very calmly, Orton dressed him down, telling him he needed to be more careful so he wouldnt injure anyone else in the ring.

Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo def. Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas (non-title) Jack Swagger def. Finlay John Cena def. Ted DiBiase
The WWE Universe had cause to celebrate tonight, as one of the most popular Superstars of all-time made his WWE Superstars debut. Add to that an appearance by the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions and a brutal contest between two of ECWs toughest competitors, and you have a very memorable Thursday night on WGN America.

Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo def. Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas (non-title match) (PHOTOS | WATCH) The duo formerly known as The World's Greatest Tag Team failed to live up to their old moniker when they were defeated by Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo on WWE Superstars. Still, Benjamin and Haas cant be blamed completely for their loss. During the action, Cryme Tyme appeared at ringside, taunting the former WWE Tag Team Champions and helping the brothers from Puerto Rico score the victory. Expect Benjamin and Haas to seek out vengeance against JTG and Shad very soon.
Jack Swagger def. Finlay (PHOTOS | WATCH) Jack Swagger managed to turn his attention away from ECW Champion Christian for one night when he faced off against his old nemesis Finlay. The Man Who Loves to Fight has had little luck in recent weeks, suffering numerous beatings at the hands of The Hart Dynasty and his bad luck streak continued tonight. The All-American American used every suplex, takedown and submission in his impressive collegiate wrestling arsenal to outmaneuver the Belfast Brawler, ultimately prevailing thanks to a vicious gutwrench powerbomb. Will Swaggers winning ways carry over to the Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match for the ECW Championship at Extreme Rules?
John Cena def. Ted DiBiase (PHOTOS | WATCH) Days after they faced off on opposite sides of the 10-Man Tag Team Match on Mondays Raw, John Cena and Ted DiBiase met one-on-one in L.A.s STAPLES Center. Making his WWE Superstars debut, Cena whipped the crowd into a frenzy while battling his way to a decisive victory. Its rare to see a match featuring a member of Legacy that doesnt involve interference from Randy Orton or Cody Rhodes, but the ringside area remained empty while Cena delivered the Five-Knuckle Shuffle and the STF to the third-generation Superstar. Will Big Show find himself in the same painful position when he meets Cena in a Submission Match at Extreme Rules?

- As reported earlier, Raven, 44, returned to TNA this past Monday after a long absence. He was said to have come back in better condition then when he left in early 2008. Towards the end of previous stint in TNA, he was dealing with a thyroid condition as a result his excesses of the past, which caused him to balloon in weight no matter how much he exercised. His medical problems have since been cleared up and his weight is back under control again.
To follow up on the story we posted earlier, WWE is in fact changing the name of their September Pay-Per-View event. WWE Unforgiven , which has been an annual event since 1998, will now be known as WWE Breaking Point.
WWE Breaking Point will take place on September 13th from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec Canada. Tickets for the event go on sale Saturday, July 11th. Advertisements running in Canada are promoting the event as WWE's first Pay-Per-View in Montreal "in over a decade," despite the fact that Montreal hosted WWE No Way Out back in February 2003.
Several weeks ago, WWE sent out a survey asking fans to help the company pick a name for the event. "Breaking Point" won out over Submission Sunday, Total Submission and Submit & Quit. The top matches on Breaking Point are expected to be submission matches.
Shane Douglas' return to TNA at this past Monday's Impact taping was quite surprising as it was believed that his career in professional wrestling was over. Despite being 44 years old and noticeably heavier (he wore a T-shirt for his return), they are indeed bringing him back as a wrestler.
Following a less than stellar stint as a wrestler in late 2003 and early 2004 (including a match with Raven in September 2003 in which he was so gassed he vomited in the middle of the ring), he became a road agent for the company. In late 2005, he took a leave of absence to check himself into a rehabilitation clinic to battle a painkiller addiction he was dealing with. He came back in the spring of 2006 to manage The Naturals, but the experiment ultimately failed and he parted ways with the company in October 2007.
Since he was last seen in TNA, Douglas has worked a variety of jobs in the Pittsburgh area including a stint at a Target department store in their Manager Trainee Program as well as a history teacher at a middle school in New Brighton, Pennsylvania.
While people in wrestling always want to come back to still be part of wrestling, it's surprising that he would come back as a wrestler as opposed to an agent, manager or announcer. He's said in the past he couldn't wrestle without pain medication and didn't want to put himself through medication again due to his family and so many of his friends dying.
Warning: The following contains a spoiler for a future episode of TNA Impact:
Former WWE superstars Elijah Burke and Shawn "Gavin" Spears we backstage at the TNA Impact tapings and were expected to wrestle. These two join Shane Douglas Raven and former WWE Diva Victoria as fresh faces TNA brought to television this week.
- Former WWE Diva Victoria, who debuted at last Monday's Impact taping in Orlando, will actually not be going under her real name, Lisa Marie Varon. Last night, she worked her first match inside the six-sided ring under the name Tara.
Vladimir Kozlov def. local competitors Evan Bourne def. Mark Henry Jack Swagger & The Hart Dynasty def. ECW Champion Christian & Tommy Dreamer
LOS ANGELES - With less than two weeks before Extreme Rules unleashes itself upon the WWE Universe the STAPLES Center stood witness to a monumental announcement which revealed ECWs contribution to the Extreme pay-per-view, as well as what one ECW Original agreed to do to make it happen.
Jack Swagger, David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd def. ECW Champion Christian & Tommy Dreamer (Handicap Match) (VIDEO | PHOTOS) In response to Jack Swaggers ongoing complaints of Christian cheating in their last two title matches and The All-American Americans interference in the ECW Championship Match between Christian and Tommy Dreamer last week on WWE Superstars, ECW General Manager Tiffany took Extreme action. She announced an ECW Championship Triple Threat Hardcore Match at Extreme Rules between the three volatile Superstars (Match preview). In order to take part in the match and finally get a fair opportunity at once more holding the gold above his head, Dreamer agreed to sign a one-day extension to his self-made deadline to win the Extreme title or go home for good. (VIDEO)
After the announcement, an aggressive Dreamer forcefully expelled both Swagger and Christian from the ring.
Later, Dreamer and Christian continued to show their frustration, as a heated disagreement in the back quickly escalated into a physical altercation. As Finlay was trying to break the two Superstars up, he was injured, making it impossible for him to compete in the main event. As a result, Dreamer and Christian had to face their a opponents in a Handicap Match.
In the explosive Match later that night, Swagger and The Hart Dynasty prevailed with a two on three advantage, with Swagger hitting the Gutwrench Powerbomb after throwing Christian into the unforgiving steel ring post. Following the bell, Dreamer attacked Swagger, only to fall victim to the Hart Dynasty's Hart Attack.
Evan Bourne def. Mark Henry (Count-out) (VIDEO | PHOTOS) In the culmination of an action-packed match that pitted two of ECWs most polar-opposite Superstars against each other, Air Bourne claimed victory over Henry by the skin of his teeth, beating The Worlds Strongest Man and the count into the ring.

Mr. Kennedy suffered what was said to be some form of wrist injury last night on RAW while taking an RKO from Randy Orton. There's no word yet on how serious the injury. However, nobody this morning believed he would be missing any significant ring time.
- After CM Punk defeated Dolph Ziggler at the SmackDown/ECW live event last night in Las Cruces, NM, a young fan said to be around nine-years old hopped the barrier and jumped in the ring to hug Punk while he celebrated. A fan in attendance says security pulled the kid from under the ropes with one hand by his leg, causing him to fall on his face.

Big Show, WWE Champion Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase & The Miz
LOS ANGELES After the media whirlwind that surrounded this week's Raw, the WWE Universe answered criticism from the owner of the Denver Nuggets, E. Stan Kroenke, loud and clear Monday night: "Guess what, E. Stan? We don't need you!" Despite having only three days notice to purchase tickets, the STAPLES Center rattled with some of the WWE Universe's most faithful and dedicated admirers. And for that, WWE Universe, we offer our sincere thanks!
John Cena, Batista, United States Champion MVP, Jerry The King Lawler & Mr. Kennedy def. WWE Champion Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Big Show & The Miz Sporting Denver Nuggets jerseys, Big Show, WWE Champion Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase & The Miz entered the ring to face off against their five opponents, who came to the ring clad in L.A. Lakers tops: John Cena, Batista, United States Champion MVP, Jerry The King Lawler & returning Mr. Kennedy.
As Lawler and Rhodes kicked off the battle for their respective teams, alliances were on shaky ground, especially since The Worlds Largest Athlete seemed determined that he alone would end the match by making Cena tap out.
The raucous crowd cheered on the returning Mr. Kennedy, who survived an onslaught from WWEs Nuggets squad. Finally, the Green Bay Grappler managed to mount an offense and tag in Cena. The Champ then tagged in MVP, who, to an arena of cheers, secured the win for WWEs Lakers when he pinned Rhodes. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Goldust & Hornswoggle def. The Brian Kendrick & Festus It looks like the search continues for The Brian Kendrick. The ego-maniac vowed to the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo that he will find The Tag Team Partner and defeat the brothers to capture the Unified Tag Team Titles. After teaming with Festus and losing to Goldust & Hornswoggle, however, it looks as if Kendricks quest continues. Especially after Kendrick lambasted Festus post-match only to have the brothers ring the match bell, sending Festus on a tear after his tormentor. (PHOTOS)
Santino Marella & Mickie James def. Chavo Guerrero & Beth Phoenix; Miss WrestleMania Vickie Guerrero and Santina to battle in a Hog Pen Match at Extreme Rules Glamarella, we hardly knew ye. Ric Flair called out Randy Orton; Mr. Kennedy announced he will return in the nights 5-on-5 main event As a 16-time World Champion, Ric Flair wasnt about to let an arrogant Superstar like WWE Champion Randy Orton get away with sucker-punching him last week after the The Viper match with Batista. The Nature Boy called out his former Evolution partner, slapping him across the face and insisting that the two fight like men.
The Legend Killer attacked until another Evolution member, Batista, came to break things up. At that point, Orton left the ring and found himself standing before another crowd favorite, Mr. Kennedy. The Green Bay Grappler made a surprise appearance and defended Flair before revealing that he was the fifth mystery member that would compete in the 5-on-5 main event! (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Kofi Kingston def. Matt Hardy and William Regal in Triple Threat Match to earn a U.S. Title Match on the next Raw With the current United States Champion MVP looking on intently, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy and William Regal battled in a Triple Threat Match for an opportunity to take on WWEs Franchise Playa for the title.
Some questioned whether or not Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero was simply paying back favors by allowing Hardy and Regal into the match in the first place. After all, Hardy had helped Vickies husband, Edge, prevail at Judgment Day while Regal ensured Guerrero captured the Miss WrestleMania title last week after beating down Santina.
Despite their questionable entry, neither Hardy nor Regal could capitalize as the Jamaican Superstar bested Hardy for the victory and the right to battle for the United States Championship next week on Raw against his friend MVP. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Kelly Kelly def. Divas Champion Maryse by disqualification After last weeks Diva Battle Royal, in which Divas Champion Maryse sprayed perfume into Mickie James eyes causing her to lose to Kelly Kelly, the WWE Universe appeared eager to see the Battle of the Blondes. Certainly aware that a title cannot change hands on a disqualification, Maryse got herself disqualified and retained the title. An angered Kelly Kelly then knocked down the cunning champion driving her from the ring. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Mr. McMahon confronted Denver Nuggets owner E. Stan Kroenke; Superstars scuffled before Raws 5-on-5 main event Mr. McMahon isnt exactly the forgiving type. Which made a confrontation between the WWE Chairman and one "E. Stan Kroenke" virtually inevitable.
As has been reported extensively throughout the week, the owner of the Denver Nuggets, Kroenke had unceremoniously booted Monday Night Raw from Denvers Pepsi Center in favor of allowing his team to play the Los Angeles Lakers there in an NBA playoff game, despite the fact that WWE had reserved the Pepsi Center last August.
As anyone who is familiar with Mr. McMahon might guess, things didnt go so well for E. Stan when he showed up at L.A.s STAPLES Center to berate the WWE Universe. During his rant, the Chairman showed up and revealed Kroenkes first name: Enos. Mr. McMahon then shoved the blowhard billionaire, leaving him flat against the canvas.
In the wake of Mr. McMahon teaching Kroenke a lesson, The Miz strutted out to reveal his favorite NBA team: The Cleveland Cavaliers. The self-important Superstar went on to repeat his claim of being undefeated against John Cena. The bogus boast brought Cena out to confront Miz, which unleashed a barrage of Superstars who will also competed in Raws 5-on-5 main event, including Big Show, Jerry The King Lawler, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase and Batista.
While the scuffle between these warring sides proved brief, sparks flew later that night when Cena, Batista, MVP, Lawler & a fifth player faced off against WWE Champion Randy Orton, Rhodes, DiBiase, Miz & Big Show. (PHOTOS | WATCH)

Shawn Michaels recently told WWE officials that he is looking at taking more time off than originally planned. The idea is that Shawn is financially set for life and his kids are at that age where they like him around and he realizes that's a short window.
The original plan was for Shawn to return at WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view but he asked to stay out until late this year or early 2010, in time for a good angle at WrestleMania next year. Of course all of this could change depending on what he's thinking and if any top WWE Superstars come down with injury. Back in 2007, Shawn was talking about staying out longer after knee problems and when John Cena tore his pec, Shawn ended up returning earlier than he wanted.
Shawn has also made more noise about retiring at WrestleMania but at other times he's said he doesn't see why he can't make occasional appearances like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan have, until he's well into his 50's, which is a long way away. He has also mentioned that once his kids are teenagers, being at home so much won't be as important and at that point he'd be more open to spending more time on the road.
As of last week, Jeff Hardy had continued to turn down all offers made to him by WWE. Hardy had been adamant in recent months that he wanted time off, which led to a lot of the workers privately championing him as he's bucking the usual fear that if you walk away, you won't be utilized down the line by management. As of last week, WWE was still pushing him Hard to sign a new deal, offering him basically everything from a 12-18 month deal to a 3-5 year deal just to lock him in, but Hardy continued to say he was leaving to take time off, possiblyto work on some sort of "reality" project. No word on where things stand as Matt Hardy wrote a blog last week that made people believe Jeff and WWE had reached a new deal on Tuesday. That blog really could have meant anything though and it is not at all confirmed that Jeff has re-signed with the company.
Ric Flair and WWE have agreed to terms for him to return for the next 4-6 weeks. There are several reasons why this has gone down. WWE wants to use the time period as a bridge to keep from bringing Triple H back against Randy Orton as the plan has been to headline them against each other at Summerslam in the Hell in A Cell.
Flair has been pushing hard to come back as a wrestler as financially, between alimony issues with his ex-wife Tiffany and upcoming legal-related costs regarding his son Reid, Flair realizes he's going to be hurting. His belief is that if he "can just wrestle again" he'll quickly make a ton of money to help offset those expenses, so he's completely motivated by what he can make at this point. Flair has been hoping to do some sort of return match in WWE and have their approval to return so he can take some big money offers in Japan. There has been talk of Flair wrestling at Extreme Rules but it's a Vince McMahon call and he hasn't been high on allowing that yet.
Flair has not signed a WWE deal and will still be making all of his independent and ROH appearances.
- Awesome Kong hurt her hand during her match against Angelina Love at last night's TNA Sacrifice pay-per-view. Apparently the injury happened on a spot where she connected with the ring post. No word on the severity of the injury but it was said to be quite swollen last night.
- Stevie Richards had several small lacerations in his back after being chokeslammed by Abyss on the tacks last night after Daffney vs. Taylor Wilde.
- Raisha Saeed, Awesome Kong and Savio Vega were seen at a pub in Orlando hanging out after the pay-per-view.

TNA has started putting wrestlers that will no longer be used on television on restructured deals as opposed to releasing them from the company. These new deals allow the wrestlers who aren't being used to have more power to book themselves as they see fit as opposed to working around the TNA schedule.
