Kurt Angle on TNA Being Perceived as WWE-Lite Posted by Steve Carrier on 05/13/2011 at 08:05 PM
Recap of Kurt Angle's appearance on the Busted Open satellite radio show on Sirius 92 and XM 207.
On the name change to Impact Wrestling. Is TNA gone?: Gone, yeah. Impact Wrestling is the new name of the company. I personally believe in it because when it comes down to it, you cant take the word wrestling out of pro wrestling. Any storyline, or any feud...when you do that, its entertainment and youre doing the storylines, but where does it ultimately end up? In the wrestling ring. At the PPV, the payoff. So how can you take wrestling out of pro wrestling .you cant. Thats what they (the fans) buy tickets for. They buy tickets to watch guys wrestle. Not to be actors and entertain us. They pay to watch great wrestling."
When followed up with the point that Vince McMahon might disagree with Angles opinion: "Hey, you know what, its a boost for us. If he wants to go that way, well go the other way."
On Hulk Hogan and the perception that TNA has become WWE-lite: Yes, I believe when we brought in Hulk Hogan, and I will say this from the bottom of my heart, I love Hulk Hogan. He is a great addition to our company. But he too realizes that it cant be 'total nonstop talk'. We have a lot of characters on the show that dont wrestle. Some that wrestle every once in awhile, but really ultimately youre talking about Dixie Carter being on the show sometimes. You got Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair, Mick Foley. I mean Im just naming a few that dont wrestle and theyre on the show all the time. You start seeing a little too much talking and not enough wrestling. We are now in the process of going to more wrestling.
"Beer Money matches with Motor City Machine Guns. You couldnt beat that. My matches with A.J. Styles... you cant beat that. Those are the kinds of things Ive talked to Dixie Carter personally about. I said I would rather give the fans great matches on TV, incredible five stars matches, right now, even if our pay-per-views suffer. I rather do that now and get our ratings up, and then work on our pay-per-views, then try to get pay-per-views now and have our ratings stay down. Its better to have wrestling on the shows because its different. Its not like the other company.
On Chynas debut: She looked good. She looked healthy too. You know what, even though we only had 1,400 people there, the response that just came from those fans sent a big message to Hulk Hogan and Dixie Carter, and myself as well, that Chyna will always be a huge name. It was cool because when they introduced her people were like holy, no way. Chyna. Shes coming. Oh my God, and then she came out and she looked good. It was like, she is back. It was one of the feel-good moments for Impact Wrestling.
"I mean, Chyna is going to cause a ruckus in Impact Wrestling. I hope they have her wrestle the guys. Impact Wrestling is very pro-women as far as women wresting women. I remember when Awesome Kong (Kharma) came in and I told Jeff Jarrett I want to wrestle her right now. Let me put me over. Hes like no, shes going with women. I believe Chyna should go with the guys eventually."

A singles match between AJ Styles and Tommy Dreamer was announced on tonight's episode of TNA iMPACT! for this Sunday's TNA Sacrifice pay-per-view event.
A match between Brian Kendrick and Robbie E was also announced for the event.
Chyna was revealed tonight on iMPACT! as Kurt Angle's mystery partner for their Mixed Tag Match vs. Jeff and Karen Jarrett
Meanwhile, Chris Harris was revealed as Matt Hardy's partner for their TNA World Tag Team Championship Match against Beer Money, Inc.
The announced card is as follows:
TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match Rob Van Dam vs. Sting (c)
Mixed Tag Match Kurt Angle and Chyna vs. Jeff Jarrett and Karen Jarrett

TNA Women's Knockout Championship Mickie James (c) vs. Madison Rayne
TNA X Division Championship Match Kazarian (c) vs. Max Buck

- Mick Foley, who was revealed as the Network Consultant tonight on Spike TV, announced during the telecast that show is being renamed iMPACT! Wrestling. He added that it's a show "about wrestling."
To reflect the name change, TNA Wrestling re-designed their official website with new graphics and the tagline, "Wrestling Matters Here." The domain name ImpactWrestling.com was also activated, although it redirects to TNAWrestling.com.
T-Shirts featuring the Impact Wrestling logo are now available via ShopTNA.com.
Below are the complete taping result for the May 12th edition of TNA Impact:
The Jarretts come out and offer a truce to Kurt Angle as Jeff doesn't want her to be put in harm's way at the Sacrifice PPV on Sunday. The crowd is chanting for Angle. Karen says that Kurt's been hurt too many times and now that's made him believe that she's out to get him. She says they have a restraining order out for his own well being and asks Angle to come out. Kurt comes out and says he can't believe he stayed married to her. Angle announces a mixed tag match between himself & "his business partner" against the Jarretts for the PPV. He says that Jarrett knows who she is and she's real, damn real.
*Mickie James & Miss Tessmacher defeated Madison Rayne & Tara.
*Beer Money cut a promo and pretty much intimate that they are waiting for Matt Hardy to call Jeff Hardy to face them at Sacrifice without using Jeff's name. Matt comes out and says they showed guts when they dared call out Hulk Hogan, but they still make him sick and are worthless. Matt says he and Jeff Hardy were raised to be champions and he and his partner are going to take the belts at Sacrifice. But, his partner isn't Jeff Hardy. Out comes, I swear to God, Chris Harris. It's Harris and Hardy vs. Beer Money.
*Sangriento pinned Suicide.
*Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair come out immediately after the match. Flair kicks Suicide low. Hogan says that he runs the show and he's tired of waiting. He wants to know who is running games for the network right now or else. Out comes Mick Foley. Foley said that Hulk may have conned his way into the company and they might think that they were the smartest men in wrestling, but now things are going to start to unravel. He said that on 3/3, Jeff Hardy was the champ but then the Network saw what what happening and brought Sting back to TNA and now he's the champion. Foley said that Hogan won't be able to ruin this show and more because this show is called "Impact Wrestling" because it's supposed to be about wrestling. He announces a Battle Royal to determine the number one contender to the TNA title and then says he'd like to introduce Kurt Angle's partner at Sacrifice. A video appears, eventually spelling the word Chyna and she comes out on the stage with Foley. She got, seriously, a MONSTER pop. Everyone chanted her name.
*Crimson defeated Abyss and Samoa Joe. Abyss attacked Crimson and left him laying.
*Mr. Anderson wins the Battle Royal. Chyna ran out and tossed out Jarrett. She went after Karen but Jeff saved her and they ran away. Dreamer got tossed by Bully Ray even though they are now partners. Steiner and Morgan eliminated each other. Hardy and Beer Money eliminated each other. In the end, Anderson tossed Ray out.
Batista-WWE Update Posted by Dave Mitchell on 05/11/2011 at 06:23 PM
(Partial Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)
- As we recently reported, plans for former WWE superstar Dave Batista to make his professional MMA debut for the Strikeforce promotion fell through when the company was purchased by UFC earlier this year. With Batista's MMA career still not off the ground yet, there has been speculation as to whether a return to WWE would be in the cards for him.
According to a reliable source, WWE's creative team does still talk about Batista and how he would fit into current and future storylines. No matter what happens with Batista doing mixed martial arts, the general feeling is that he has not wrestled his final match in a WWE ring.
Austin comments on rumors he will wrestle again Posted by Roscoe De Soto on 05/11/2011 at 04:03 PM
Credit: The UK Sun
During a recent interview with the UK Sun, WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin put rumors of a possible return to wrestling to rest and has insisted that he has no intention of getting back into the ring as an active wrestler.
Ever since he became involved with the revamped WWE Tough Enough, rumors were abound that Austin would be rejoining WWE as a wrestler again due to his involvement with the show. Here is what Austin had to say:
"I'm happy being gone and out of the business to the degree I am, that's why the Tough Enough thing was such a great opportunity between my other projects. I can be as hands-on and as close as I want to be. I'm not attempting to come back and I have a load of memories from a business I love."
"I got up there and took some bumps with one of the contestants and worked around with one of the guys and I had fun getting in the ring and bouncing around again."
"But it doesn't mean I want to go and do it again on a night in, night out basis."
Austin has also stated that he will continue to focus on his acting career.
- With Hulk Hogan currently training for a possible return to the ring later this year, word out of the TNA locker room is that Hogan is looking to wrestle Sting in the main event of TNA's biggest show of the year - Bound For Glory, later this year.
While a Hulk Hogan vs. Sting match is still a match some fans would pay to see again - it all depends on whether Hogan is physically able to work a match after undergoing more than a half dozen back surgeries in the past year or so.
WWE NXT Results (5/10/11) - William Regal Teaches Jacob Novak A Lesson Written by Brooks Oglesby on May 10, 2011 - 10:50:04 PM
WWE NXT Results - 5/10/2011
-It's time for the tenth week of NXT Redemption! The opening titles roll, and commentators William Regal and Todd Grisham welcome us from Nashville, Tennessee. It's William Regal's birthday today, and he will be in action tonight against Jacob Novak. Matt Striker is in the ring, and welcomes his co-host Maryse out to the ring. We get a recap of Kharma's attack on Maryse, and she then addresses the crowd. Maryse assures the crowd that she's doing fine.
With that said, out come the rookies. The pros (except for Hornswoggle, who is missing) are seated at their position on the stage and the rookies line up outside the ring. Striker announces that the first elimination will take place next week.
With that said, it's time for our first challenge of the night.
Challenge #1: King Of The Hill
-Each rookie must run to the ring, get a flag, run back and blow a horn in the ring. The rookie with the fastest time will win.
-Conor and Novak go through the ring while the other rookies run around the ring. Titus gets the flag first, pushes Conor out of the way, and gets to the ring first. Darren is close behind, but Titus blows the horn first and wins this very quick challenge.
Winner: Titus O'Neil, who wins 6 redemption points.
-Titus says to cut his music and says that Hornswoggle isn't on the stage. He doesn't know where he is. He asks Grisham where he is, and he asks Darren Young angrily where he is. Titus says that Darren's had issues with him all season, and he'll get answers out of Darren tonight, even if he has to beat them out of him.

Match #1: Titus O'Neil vs. Darren Young
-Chavo Guerrero is on commentary for this match. Titus forces Darren into the corner and asks "Where is he?" He does the same in another corner. He takes Darren down with a stiff shoulder block and hits a lariat which knocks Darren clear out of the ring. Darren says "I'm out of here" and walks down the ramp, but Titus follows him, grabs him, and throws him back into the ring. Titus continues to yell "Where is he?" as he continually beats Darren in the corner. Eventually Darren counters with a big boot and tries to keep Titus down with attacks to Titus' arm. Darren applies a side armbar to keep him grounded, but Titus picks him up and sidewalk slams him for a two-count. Titus whips Darren into the corner and charges him, but Darren moves out of the way. Darren starts slapping the arm and head of Titus before applying a modified wristlock on the seated Titus. Darren breaks the hold and hits a snapmare. Darren drops a few forearms for a two-count. Darren applies yet another version of an armlock, which Titus counters into an reverse electric chair drop. Titus hits a European uppercut and whips Darren. He then hits a powerslam on Darren for a two-count. Titus yells "Let's go, people!" and gets the crowd fired up. Titus tries to hit a boot on a reeling Darren, but Darren moves and Titus gets hung up on the second rope. Darren then rolls Titus up and gets the three-count. This is Titus' first loss on NXT, as Darren exits the ring laughing.
Winner: Darren Young
-A backstage segment from earlier today is shown. Conor is shown backstage with Vladimir, both wearing Sambo gear. Vlad is teaching technique, so they both lock up in a grapple. Conor says "this is kinda like dancing!" Vlad says "Dancing?" and drops Conor easily. Conor then tries to take Vlad down, but Vlad doesn't budge and takes Conor down with ease.
-Commercial
-Conor O'Brian makes his way to the ring first with his pro, Vladimir Kozlov. Yoshi's music hits and Yoshi comes out happy as ever, but Byron is all business. The segment of Byron wanting to do NXT on his own last week is shown.
Match #2: Byron Saxton vs. Conor O'Brian
-Conor hits a hip toss on Byron and keeps hold of Saxton's arm. He wrenches Saxton's arm and hits knees to his elbow. He changes it to a hammerlock and goes for a quick pin to no avail. He whips Saxton, who hits a corkscrew elbow. Saxton then applies a wristlock onto Conor, who counters by tripping Saxton. Conor then hits a quick Indian deathlock and continues attacking Saxton's limbs. He applies a quick kneebar as well. Conor then gets a one-count. Byron fights out of the corner and tries to slam Conor's head into the corner, but Conor stops himself and takes out Byron's leg with a kick to the knee. Conor isn't letting Saxton up, continually stomping his legs. Conor tries for a quick pin, then transitions to a strange sharpshooter-esque hold and a spinning toe hold. Saxton fights out and hits his shoulder jawbreaker. Saxton's fired up and hits a number of clotheslines and a bulldog for a two-count. Byron goes to the second rope and hits a flying clothesline for the win.
Winner: Byron Saxton
-Yoshi comes in the ring to celebrate with Saxton, but Saxton gives Yoshi the cold shoulder. Yoshi tries to raise Byron's hand, but Byron rips his hand away. Saxton gets a mic and says "Yoshi, listen. I thought I told you last week. I'm doing this on my own" He says that Yoshi is too distracted with Maryse. He asks if Yoshi doesn't understand him because of the language barrier, but he says "Maybe you're just too stupid to understand," which makes Yoshi get into his face. Byron says that he doesn't want or need Yoshi, and leaves the ring.
-Lucky Cannon is backstage and goes to talk to Maryse. Cannon says he was worried about her after her attack on Kharma. Maryse says he should be worried about the purse he stole last week. Cannon says that he has a surprise for her, so they can be professional friends. Cannon gets a box and lets Maryse open it. Maryse pulls out a brand new purse and says "Oh, wow." Cannon says it's nothing for a girl like her. She's worth every penny. Maryse says that she's willing to put all of their problems behind them. Maryse wishes him luck in the elimination next week and walks off.

-Matt Striker is now taking William Regal's commentary position with Todd Grisham because Regal is in action against Jacob Novak up next. This match actually gets a promo. There's a recap of Regal talking trash about Novak on commentary, and Novak calling Regal out. There's then a recap of Regal's match with JTG last week, which ended in Novak's interference. That match is up next.
-Commercial
-We are reminded that voting for the first elimination will open tomorrow at noon. JTG and Novak come out first, and JTG says that Novak is a future WWE Superstar. He says that his rookie and his boy represents strength, skill, and style. He has style, something that Nashville lacks. JTG then insults the Nashville music scene. William Regal then comes to the ring with a smirk on his face.
Match #3: William Regal vs. Jacob Novak
-The two stare down, trotting around the ring, before Regal locks in a headlock. Novak reverses into a headlock of his own. Regal whips Novak and sends him flying over the top rope. JTG runs over and tells JTG to get up, but Regal stomps on JTG's foot from the apron. JTG talks to Novak while Regal waits in the ring. As he gets onto the apron, Regal flips Novak into the ring and pushes him into the corner. He hits some chest chops, then pulls him out, only to whip Novak back into the turnbuckle. Novak counters this time with an elbow, sending Regal out of the ring. The referee holds Novak back, and as the referee is distracted, JTG hits a dropkick on Regal on the outside.
-Commercial
-Novak has Regal reeling in the corner. Novak then hits a splash and gets a one-count. Novak applies a kneeling headlock as a Regal chant starts. Regal gets to his feet and tosses Regal into the corner. Novak stops short and Regal runs into him, sending him reeling. Novak capitalizes with a clothesline. Novak then chokes Regal on the ropes, and when the referee has his back turned, JTG interferes again, hitting Regal in the face. Novak keeps Regal down with a chinlock, but Regal gets up and hits a number of European uppercuts and punches. Regal rubs Novak's face against the ropes and takes him down with a European uppercut. Regal yells "Come on!" to the crowd and tries to hit a suplex, but Novak stops him and throws Regal into the corner, following up with some elbows. The referee breaks it up, so Novak backs up. Novak tries to hit a big boot, but Regal catches his foot and drops Novak on his stomach. Regal then applies his Regal Stretch and gets Novak to tap out.
Winner: William Regal
-JTG looks disappointed and walks with Novak up the ramp. Regal's fired up and yells while walking around the ring, celebrating his birthday and the win to end the show.
-That's it for this week's edition of NXT Redemption. Remember, voting begins Tuesday morning at noon. Thanks for reading.
As noted earlier this evening, Tyson Kidd takes on Trent Baretta on this week's WWE Superstars, filmed tonight before the SmackDown tapings. Kidd came out with his new manager - wrestling legend and WWE creative team member Michael Hayes.

Vince McMahon Reportedly Furious With TNA Angle Posted by Steve Carrier on 05/10/2011 at 02:35 PM
Outspoken celebrity blogger Perez Hilton posted an article on www.FitPerez.com concerning Chyna's return to the squared circle.
"The Ninth Wonder of The World" debuted for TNA Wrestling at last Tuesday's iMPACT! taping in Orlando, Florida. The former WWE Diva was revealed as Kurt Angle's "mistress" and will be competing in a mixed tag team match with Kurt Angle against Jeff and Karen Jarrett at TNA Sacrifice this Sunday.
According to Hilton, Vince McMahon was considering placing Chyna in the WWE Hall of Fame, but has since dismissed the idea due to her association with the rival promotion. Hilton adds McMahon is furious with her decision to join TNA.
TMZ.com reported last week that Chyna has not signed a contract with TNA Wrestling as she is currently working on a "handshake deal" with a "very, very short leash."
Chyna is off to a good start so far as sources within TNA Wrestling say she exceeded expectations in regards to how she handled herself backstage at the event.
"Chyna was very well liked," said one TNA source. Another source added, "She was great." It was also noted that she has mellowed out.
Chyna made a second wrestling related appearance at last Saturday's "Legends of the Ring" convention in Monroe, New Jersey. She appeared healthy and in good spirits.
WWE Tough Enough Results - May 9th, 2011 Posted by Steve Carrier on 05/09/2011 at 07:12 PM
Welcome back to another edition of Tough Enough.
Luke has arrived back at the house, in good spirits. Jeremiah welcomes him back and everything seems to be fine with him coming back. Christina, on the other hand... Not so much. When she came back nobody seemed ecstatic she was back, especially Ivelisse.
After the opening, everyone is in the training area. They're going through some basic stuff, but tough nonetheless. Eric isn't doing very well, but everyone else seems to be doing fine. Some of them are in the ring doing rolls, but the rest are outside doing basic workout stuff.
The Texas Rattlesnake has entered the ring, and addresses the competitors. He tells them to stay focused. Being focused is the key to doing well in this competition and in the industry.
They are doing some exercises in the ring now. After Jeremiah took mulitple scoop slams, he was told he's done with it. Immediately after that, he goes to the other side of the gym and starts coughing up blood. Bill DeMott seemed impressed because Jeremiah didn't quit, and he didn't complain.
Commercial Break.
DeMott tells Jeremiah to slam the punching bag, then drop the elbow on it from the middle rope. Jeremiah says he'd rather go from the top rope. SCSA and Bill DeMott are very impressed. Jeremiah misses the bag off the elbow drop, but I still think he impressed them. Everyone else is doing fine, but Eric does a pitiful elbow. Ivelisse needs like 10 tries to get the bag up and slam it, but she does get it. She does well on the elbow drop, but favors her leg from that hamstring injury of last week. Christina does very well, she seemed to have a lot of confidence and showed some character, which impressed Booker T.
As they tell everyone that daily training is over, Bill DeMott notices someone is already gone: Ivelisse. Booker and Bill go to talk to her, and she tells them that she doesn't want to quit and will not quit, but her leg is constantly in pain. Booker points out that Triple H tore the quad off his bone and finished a match, and says that's what they do. They have to work through it. They finish talking and we go to commercial.
Time for the Life Skills challenge. Morrison is our guest today. The contestants will be going through a rope course, which, from the look of it, could be the hardest thing yet. Stone Cold guarantees that someone will fall before this is all over. Everyone is doing very well, until we get to Ivelisse. She is trying very hard, but just can't seem to do it. Morrison gets up there with her and encourages her, helps her through it, and eventually she finishes. She said she doesn't know if she could have done it without Morrison. Andy says he's afraid of heights, but he gets through it without any real problems, just taking his time. Eric tries to get through, but he is just... Not going to. Christina actually walks over him and passes him, and Luke says "If that's not a metaphor of how he's been doing throughout this whole competition, I don't know what is." Christina finishes, and Eric is still up there. Stone Cold says he shows signs of being fantastic in the ring, but then he always ends up sh***ing the bed. Eric has been up there for an hour and a half, and eventually Stone Cold sends up help to get him down. Eric isn't happy about it, but he accepts it.
Commercial Break.
We're back in the training area now, and it's time for the skills challenge which will be called "Pop a Squat". Groups of 4 with one on each corner. Everyone gets on the top rope, hands above your head, and does squats until they fall. Last 2 from each group go into the finals. Andy falls first, and he is PISSED... Stone Cold says he liked that he's starting to show some fire. Only three left, Martin, Ivelisse, and Jeremiah. Martin is the next one out, so Jeremiah and Ivelisse move on. Group #2 now. AJ is out almost instantly, and I really think he's starting to fall behind the group. Eric can't do it so he gets off the ropes. Ivelisse, Christina, Luke, and Jeremiah are all doing the finals now... But the catch is that Andy and Eric are going to run the ropes while they try to keep their balance (No squats this time). Ivelisse and Christina are out. Luke says Jeremiah and him are the top dogs. He says that he's the best, but Jeremiah is the only other one who he sees as a challenge. Now with these last two, they are slamming the bag and doing elbow drops. Jeremiah doesn't make it look too good, but Luke was clearly the winner. This means Luke and Martin continue to be the only two people who have won a skills challenge. Now it's time to find out who is in the bottom three, up next.
The Raw teaser hyped the naming of the new number one contender for John Cena's WWE Championship
The bottom three joined Austin in the ring. He asked how everyone was doing and Eric said, "Rough day at the office." AJ said he had had better days and Austin agreed. AJ said he was here to learn from the best in the world to be the best in the world.
Austin said AJ seemed like a nice guy and really went off. Austin said all that was great, but why would somebody want to pay to see him. AJ said he would inspire him in ways he couldn't describe. Austin said that was some good BS. He asked if this was such a dream, why hadn't AJ stood out yet.
Austin ran down Eric for his conditioning. He said the ball was in Eric's court now. He stepped in front of Ivelisse and said, "I really believe you belong in the ring, but I gotta do what I gotta do." She started to cry and said she understood. She handed him her belt, and Austin said he was taking two belts tonight.
He walked over to AJ and asked him if he wanted to hand over his belt. AJ said he would have to take it from him. Austin said watching him was like watching grass grow. Austin asked Eric if he was serious about working hard like Ivelisse had and Eric said he didn't want to go home. Austin said he had to because he was taking his belt. Eric, Ivelisse and Austin gave their final thoughts
