Raw results: C U at WrestleMania!

ATLANTA – With the explosive events of WrestleMania XXVII still fresh in the minds of the WWE Universe, two of the most popular Superstars in history just lit a fuse that promises to burn bright, clear into 2012.

The Rock accepted John Cena’s challenge to compete at WrestleMania XXVIII Let’s cut right to the chase. In arguably the biggest announcement in the history of WrestleMania, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson accepted a challenge from John Cena to compete at next year’s WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami, Fla.

The dream match-up began brewing weeks ago when The Great One and the Cenation Commander-in-Chief traded verbal barbs. The spoken sparing eventually escalated to physical confrontation until, finally, the animosity culminated at WrestleMania XXVII. During Cena’s WWE Championship Match against The Miz, the WrestleMania host cost his rival the title when he leveled him with a Rock Bottom.

Now, there’s no one and nothing standing between these two legendary Superstars. When the two finally consented to meet, their agreement was interrupted by The Corre, who ambushed the iconic Superstars. Big mistake. Rock and Cena punished their attackers and demonstrated why, when they meet in The Great One's hometown of Miami, the temperatures are sure to rise in the face of heated rhetoric and hot competition in a match that's guaranteed to go down as one of the most epic battles in WWE history.

United States Champion Sheamus def. Daniel Bryan
An international incident came to a head when United States Champion Sheamus refused to relent against Daniel Bryan, even after the Irishman emerged victorious. As The Celtic Warrior threw around his exhausted rival like a wet rag, a masked luchador sprung onto the scene to assist. The internationally-renowned luchador, Sin Cara, leveled Sheamus and saved Bryan before exiting through a roar of approving applause.

John Morrison & Trish Stratus def. Dolph Ziggler & Vickie Guerrero
For John Morrison & Trish Stratus, the party still hasn’t ended, even without their WrestleMania partner, Snooki. The Jersey Shore star helped propel her tag team over Dolph Ziggler & Lay-Cool at The Show of Shows.

On Raw, JoMo & Trish teamed up again, this time to battle Ziggler and his business associate, Vickie Guerrero. Despite much hysterics and high-pitched pouting by WWE’s callous cougar, The Shaman of Sexy and the former seven-time Women’s Champion managed to defuse Ziggler and his grenade of a gal pal when Morrison blasted off in Starship Pain.

Alberto Del Rio def. Evan Bourne
Alberto Del Rio would probably like to forget his first WrestleMania. Not only did he lose to World Heavyweight Champion Edge, he also watched helplessly as The Rated-R Superstar destroyed one of his precious luxury autos, a six-figure Rolls Royce.

All of that pent up frustration had to let loose at some point. Unfortunately for Evan Bourne, it unleashed inside the ring on Raw. The Mexican Aristocrat crushed the high-flyer to reestablish himself as one of WWE’s fastest-rising and most formidable Superstars.

WWE Champion The Miz confronted “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
Really, Miz? Really? After inching out a WrestleMania victory over John Cena, thanks in large part to host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Awesome One must think he’s indestructible. Why else would any sane man interrupt “Stone Cold” Steve Austin?

The Texas Rattlesnake was introducing the 14 men and women competing on his new reality show, Tough Enough, which premieres after tonight’s Raw on USA Network. The Miz took the opportunity to brag about his questionable victory and to challenge “Stone Cold.” Before he could get his hands on The Cleveland Screamer, The Texas Rattlesnake nailed his lackey, Alex Riley, with a Stunner, allowing Miz to scamper from the ring.

Randy Orton & Rey Mysterio def. CM Punk & Cody Rhodes Their respective matches at WrestleMania were intense and astounding in their outcomes. Randy Orton staggered the 71,617 attendees when he overcame CM Punk with a mid-air RKO. For his part, Cody Rhodes shocked the crowd when he wielded Rey Mysterio’s leg brace to conquer his adversary.

Now, time for retribution. The Viper teamed with The Master of the 619 against The Second City Savior and his partner, the former “Dashing” one. Although Punk & Rhodes offered an impressive effort, their opponents proved seamless in their approach. Mysterio nailed Rhodes with a 619 and sent him into the waiting – and always treacherous – arms of Orton, who leveled him with an RKO for the win.

Jerry “The King” Lawler def. Jack Swagger by Disqualification History may show that Michael Cole defeated Jerry “The King” Lawler at WrestleMania XXVII, but the win comes with a huge asterisk. After Lawler forced his fiendish foe to tap out, the anonymous Raw GM overruled the decision and awarded Cole the win due to alleged interference by special guest referee “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

In the wake of the controversial win, Cole insisted he can now lay claim to the title “Mr. WrestleMania.” He even challenged the WWE Hall of Famer to a rematch. Except, the rematch was against Cole’s trainer, Jack Swagger, who battled Lawler last Monday. Unfortunately for King, a distraction from his “rat bastard” rival allowed The All-American American the opening he needed to defeat Lawler with an ankle lock. When Swagger refused to relinquish the hold, however, the referee reversed his decision and awarded the Raw announcer the win.

Triple H praised The Undertaker Men are only as well-regarded as the respect they show others. In Triple H, the WWE Universe witnessed precisely why his fellow Superstars both fear and admire the man. One night after coming up just short in his quest to end The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, The King of Kings came to praise his opponent – not bury him. He told the audience his respect for The Deadman had only deepened as the streak extends to 19-0, despite the fact that, after his victory, The Last Outlaw needed to be carried off on a gurney.

Thanks to Mohammad from Kuwait passed along the following report:

WWE is playing an angle at Wrestlemania Axxess. it was a match between Vladimir Kozlov and Tyler Reks. The Corre interfered in the match and they beat down Kozlov so bad that his shoulder might be injured. The WWE camera men were there to capture what happened on tape.

(Note: It's likely that Kofi Kingston will be the replacement. Stay tuned.)

WWE to no longer be known as wrestling?

WWE to no longer be known as wrestling?
    Credit: F4WOnline.com

This is not an April Fools joke.

F4WOnline.com reports that WWE management held a meeting yesterday in which they discussed eliminating the word "wrestling" from the company's name. In KFC-style, the company wants to move forward and simply be known as "WWE" opposed to "World Wrestling Entertainment." Apparently ESPN was told about this possible change.

    WWE Superstars results: Bad magic

Melina and The Bella Twins def. Eve, Natalya and Gail Kim (WATCH | PHOTOS)
The Divas may be beautiful, but sometimes their matches can get pretty ugly. That was definitely the case in tonight’s “WWE Superstars” main event as the stunning squad of Eve, Natalya and Gail tried to stop the nasty tactics of Melina and her vicious Bella buddies. The talented trio nearly won out, but that was before Nikki and Brie pulled their classic “Twin Magic” switcheroo. With the Divas Champion distracted, the sisters switched places, allowing Nikki to nail Eve with a Bella Buster for the victory. Or maybe it was Brie?

Trent Barreta def. Curt Hawkins (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Trent Barreta may not be competing at Sunday’s WrestleMania, but the talented young Superstar showed the WWE Universe that he might be in the main event of The Show of Shows someday with his amazing performance on tonight’s “WWE Superstars.” Going up against his longtime rival, Curt Hawkins, the dynamic Barreta put his body on the line with a series of high-risk maneuvers to stop his opponent. But it was a well-timed Dudebuster DDT that finally gave Barreta the big win.

Sting on Turning Down WWE's Offer for WM27

Sting on Turning Down WWE's Offer for WM27
Posted by Steve Carrier on 04/01/2011 at 02:07 PM

    - The Daily Star in the UK talked to TNA Champion Sting and UFC star Brock Lesnar about turning down offers from WWE to appear at WrestleMania 27. Here are their quotes:

    Sting:
“I wouldn’t say it was utter nonsense, that’s not true! It’s a dream match that fans would want to see. It was close. I’m glad things turned out the way they did. There are so many variables. Let’s just say that I turned it down for the same reasons I always have. Some- thing in me never trusted what would happen up there, based entirely on the track record with other WCW guys and everything that went on after Vince bought WCW. I wont be watching but I’ll be asking what happened between Undertaker and Triple H."

    Lesnar:
"They were smart enough to know that I am deeply involved in UFC, what I am doing now. Wrestling doesn’t affect my life so much. I’m a fighter. The WWE will go on, and it will always be there, but I am in the UFC for as far as I can see. If ever there was an opportunity in the future to be on Wrestlemania, then I guess I have to say: ‘Never say never.’"

    TNA iMPACT! 3/31:

*We open up with Mr. Anderson dragging down Earl Hebner to the ring and demanding to know why he was DQ'd last week, giving Rob Van Dam the win. Anderson demands the decision be reversed and Hebner refuses, calling Anderson an a**hole. Anderson lays out Hebner. Brian Hebner hits the ring then Sting comes out, saying you don't pick on the referees. He and Anderson began brawling. Rob Van Dam's music hits and he comes out, saying he doesn't want the win that way and asks Hebner to add Anderson to the Lockdown main event. Hebner says he cannot. Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan come out and announce it will indeed be a Three-Way at Lockdown.

Bischoff announces Sting & Anderson & RVD vs Ric Flair's team of Abyss & Matt Hardy & Bully Ray tonight in a Steel Cage, saying the network wants ratings, so he will give it to them.

Sting and Anderson start brawling again but are held apart.

*Scott Steiner defeated Jesse Neal. Orlando Jordan and Eric Young were doing commentary. Doug Williams and Magnus attacked them after.

    *Max Buck defeated Jeremy Buck.

*Winter defeated Velvet Sky. Angelina Love came out during the match and left with Winter.

*Ken Anderson called out Sting so he could apologize but slapped him instead. They brawled into the crowd. Abyss, Hardy and Ray attacked them but RVD made the save.

*Kurt Angle calls out Jeff Jarrett saying he's not waiting for Lockdown. Jarrett sends out Rob Terry, who Angle beats. Angle chases Jarrett out.

*In a Steel Cage, Abyss & Matt Hardy & Bully Ray defeated Sting & Anderson & RVD. Sting attacked Anderson on the stage while he was doing his introduction. That left him laid out on the stage and a 3 on 2 situation. Anderson acted as if he didn't want to get in the cage until Hulk Hogan makes Anderson get in. Anderson shoved RVD off the top, setting up Bully Ray's pin. Anderson walked out.

The heels keep beating on RVD and Sting. Fortune hits the ring. Immortal hits the ring. Flair locks the cage and the babyfaces are getting massacred. Christopher Daniels hit the ring from the crowd and hit a flip from the top of the cage, wiping out Immortal. The babyfaces regroup and run off Immortal. Big reaction for Daniels' return.

Randy Orton Hypes His WM27 Match With CM Punk

Randy Orton Hypes His WM27 Match With CM Punk
Posted by Dave Mitchell on 03/31/2011 at 11:21 AM

WWE RAW superstar Randy Orton spoke with Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun week to hype Sunday's WrestleMania pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Orton said about:

Is He Comfortable As a Babyface: "Absolutely not. I’m definitely growing as a good guy, as a babyface. I’ve got to walk a fine line, Kevin, because as a bad guy, as a heel, I go so comfortable in that role, I think I eventually earned the respect of the fans. And it wasn’t some master plan to become a good guy one day. I was dead set on being a heel the rest of my career. I figured there’s no way I’ll ever be a good guy. But the fans, they’re powerful, and when they speak together like they did, I started getting positive reactions. I’d be in the ring with a babyface as a heel, but they’d be chanting for me. It’s just one of those things where I just had to make the switch. But I think where I succeeded this time, where I failed back in’04 after I became the youngest champ in history and became babyface, I didn’t change too much. I think that’s very important. That respect I earned from the fans as a bad guy, I don’t want to lose that. And if all of a sudden I’m coming out and I’m trying to be like John Cena, that typical white meat babyface, kissing babies, hugging grandmas, slapping high-five swith everybody in the front row, that’s not going to work. If I come out pumping my fist and smiling, it’s going to make people want to barf. So I really had to walk that fine line and change, but just change enough to where it works for me and my character."

How He Feels Not Being In One Of The top Matches At WrestleMania: "It’s a good question, but I believe in every Mania, every pay-per-view, Raw, Smackdown or live event I’m in, my goal – and I would hope that everyone else’s goal on the roster – would be to the steal the show, and the pressure is always there. Whether it’s a stage like WrestleMania or another pay-per-view or just TV or a live event, you’ve still got the same fans out there. The WWE Universe is watching and you’ve got to perform. You’ve got to live up to the expectations that you have laid out. Me and CM Punk, we’re not fighting for a title, but if you look back, we’ve got a three-year story line in the making. I cost him the WWE championship back in ’08 when I was returning from a collar bone injury just after the birth of my daughter. I remember it vividly. I punted him in the back of the head backstage on a day when he was champ and was going to defend the title at a pay-per-view. He wasn’t able to even perform in the match because I kicked him in the head, cost him the title. If I was him I would have done the same thing. He came back at the Rumble, cost me the title, but as far as I’m concerned, that made us even. Anything after that, I’m sorry, Phil Brooks, CM Punk. I’m going to destroy him April 3 at WrestleMania XXVII. That’s just how it’s going to go."

Wrestlers Having Tour Buses & How It Helps Their Marriages: "A lot of guys actually don’t travel by tour bus ; there’s five of us. I think to be able to be at a point in your career where you’ve earned it and you can afford it, I think anyone would be stupid not to do it. What the tour bus does for me – my family coming with me, that’s just the cherry on top – I don’t have to travel 200 and 300 miles a night driving till 3 or 4 a.m. looking for that Denny’s that’s open or that drive-thru at McDonald’s and getting a couple chicken sandwiches and taking the bun off and shoving it down my throat. I got a kitchen, king-size bed, a couple TVs, a washer and dryer, a shower, a bathroom, deep sinks – I’m set. I can travel anywhere around the country, and I can get flat after a match. I think the biggest thing when it comes to injuries and stuff, travel has a big part in that. Because after a match, guys hit the road and they’re in a sitting position. They’re not able to ice up or do whatever they have to do therapy-wise. Being in a car driving like that, it’s just not good on your back, and our backs take a lot of abuse with all the bumps we take in the ring. Our body in general takes a hell of a beating, and that bus allows me to recover – that’s the biggest thing right there. It’s worth every penny because I’m able to recover more than I would in a rental car. Waiting in lines, looking for hotels, reserving rental cars, just plugging in an address into your GPS and hoping that address eventually leads you to a gym and not some middle of the subdivision where the address was wrong. There are lots of things that go into that bus that make it worth its weight in gold, but the No. 1 thing for me is the recovery time that I get having the bus that I didn’t have in the rental cars."

RAW Ratings Breakdown: Rock-Cena-Miz Draws Huge
Posted by Dave Mitchell on 03/31/2011 at 11:13 AM

As previously reported, Monday's episode of WWE RAW drew a strong 3.84 cable rating with an average of 5.89 million viewers. This was the most viewers for RAW since the June 29th, 2009 episode.

Additionally the 4.77 final overrun segment was the highest rated quarter since June 22nd, 2009, the commercial-free RAW.

RAW's peak this week with 7.31 million viewers was the first segment on RAW to break 7 million in almost two years.

In a segment breakdown, Edge and Christian vs. Brodus Clay and Alberto Del Rio gained 3,000 viewers from the opener with CM Punk. The video for Triple H and Undertaker lost 73,000 viewers while Justin Gabriel vs. Santino Marella gained 283,000 viewers. The segment with Triple H, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker gained 1,346,000 viewers, making the rating go from 3.5 to 4.5 in the Males 18-49 demographic and from 4.5 to 5.4 in the teenagers demo.

Jerry Lawler vs. Jack Swagger lost 1,449,000 viewers, making it one of the worst segments as far as losing viewers goes in years. The same thing happened with Sheamus and Daniel Bryan a few weeks ago - fans tune in to see a major angle, in this case the one with HHH-Taker-HBK, and then tune out once the major angle is over.

The match with Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler vs. Daniel Bryan and John Morrison lost 32,000 more viewers but the Road Warriors Hall of Fame video and the angle with Snooki, Layla, Michelle McCool and Trish Stratus at a bar gained 255,000 viewers. The final segment with The Rock, John Cena and The Miz gained 1,539,000 viewers, which is one of the biggest gains in several years.

Overall, a great showing by WWE and a sign of momentum headed into Sunday's WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view.
