WWE Smackdown superstar released Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/28/2008 at 10:47 AM
From WWE.com:
WWE has come to terms on the release of SmackDown Superstar Dave Taylor as of today, April 28, 2008. We wish Dave the best in all his future endeavors.
Awesome Kong's manager Raisha Saeed wrestled without her hood on in a dark match prior to last night's taping in Orlando. Instead, Saeed assumed her longtime indy wrestling persona, Cheerleader Melissa. The gimmick is her coming out in a cheerleader outfit with pom-pons. No word yet if the Raisha Saeed persona is being dropped, although she can portray two gimmicks at once. If you recall, Mike Bucci assumed his old ECW persona, Hollywood Nova, for the short-lived return of the Blue World Order in the summer of 2005 while he was still portraying Simon Dean.
A brand new TNA Knockout looks to be on the way. Cheerleader Melissa's opponent at last night's iMPACT! taping was none other than SHIMMER/Ring of Honor women's wrestler Daizee Haze. Haze lost to Melissa in the dark match. According to PWInsider.com, there are plans for the two to wrestle at tonight's iMPACT! taping. Haze returns to the company after a four year hiatus. When she was starting out in wrestling and trying to make a name for herself, Haze worked a few matches on TNA's syndicated show Xplosion. She last appeared in a TNA ring in early 2004.
As noted earlier, former WWE developmental women's wrestler Shantelle Taylor is in Orlando for this week's TNA iMPACT! tapings and expected to make her television debut.
Top TNA superstar gets suspended Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/28/2008 at 04:42 PM
Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Tomko will be out for at least two more weeks due to a recent suspension. He'll probably be back at the 5/12 or 5/13 Impact tapings because he'll likely be on the Slammiversary card. Tomko got suspended after he went against the company's orders by making a wrestling appearance in Osaka, Japan, the day before Lockdown.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. After his shocking ascension to the throne as King of the Ring last week on Raw, General Manager William Regal arrived in East Rutherford for his coronation ceremony. Instead, the newly anointed majesty was treated to a royally rude awakening by a returning Mr. Kennedy which led to Regals besmirching the main event at the expense of our fans, new WWE Champion Triple H and Randy Orton. (WATCH) Read the full story
Before an incensed Regal pulled the plug on the Raw main event, the 2008 King of the Ring was royally aggravated by the loudmouth from Green Bay, Wisc. Kennedy told the newly crowned Regal that his monarchy was tainted because he didnt go through him to earn the throne. Raws GM took great exception to what he dubbed as Kennedys insolence, and demanded an apology. When Mr. Kennedys response was much less than what the king expected, Regal attacked with imperial anger, and the two Superstars brawled until WWE referees separated them. (WATCH)
Whats next as the 2008 King of the Ring winner and Raw GM attempts to force every Superstar in WWE to submit to his rule? Will Regals iron-fisted ways find him knocked from the throne by a brazen detractor like Mr. Kennedy?
And the winner is Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho hosted another installment of the Highlight Reel with special guest Shawn Michaels, who was coming off a victory at Backlash over Batista. Y2Js accusations that HBK faked a knee injury to get the win over The Animal did not sit well with Michaels, who made it known to Jericho that he one of the most decorated Superstars in history was genuinely hurt by the implications.
Chris Jerichos mockery of Michaels performance at Backlash was evident with the bravado which Y2J displayed by comparing HBKs hard-fought win to Fuji General and Michael Coles embarrassing moment with Heidenreich in 2004. Presenting an acting award to Shawn Michaels, Jerichos sudden contempt for HBK has come to the forefront, as Y2J has challenged The Showstoppers integrity. (WATCH)
Stock rising? JBL decimated Robbie of The Highlanders on Raw, one day after his disappointing performance in the Fatal Four Way Elimination Match at Backlash. The former WWE Champion who tapped to John Cena the night before then warned that last nights embarrassment has unleashed hell.
With this new side let loose, JBL challenged the WWE Champion, whoever it may be, to a match for the gold. He then turned his attention to the man who eliminated him from the Backlash championship battle. I will destroy John Cena, said the angered JBL, still seething after failing to gain the title, courtesy of Cenas STFU. (WATCH)
Divine Divas Dominate After falling at Backlash, Womens Champion Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, Cherry, Ashley & Maria gained a measure of revenge on Beth Phoenix, Victoria, Natalya, Melina, Jillian & Layla on Raw, defeating the devious Divas.
Though her teammates sustained a steady assault for most of the match, Mickie James showed why she is the champion when she used a modified bridge pin on Jillian to get the win for her team, much to the disgust of former champion Beth Phoenix.
Rhodes retribution Last week on Raw, after watching fellow World Tag Team Champion Hardcore Holly fall in one-on-one action to Carlito, Cody Rhodes told Santino Marella to shut up, leading to a skirmish between the duos. This week, Rhodes squared off against Marella to try and seal the Italians mouth the old fashioned way by force.
Before the encounter, Santino expressed his hatred for fake Italians and the state of New Jersey, infuriating our fans in East Rutherford. Rhodes was able to defeat Marella and silence the fast-tongued Superstar, albeit momentarily. As Cody taunted his downed opponent, Santino Marella, Carlito delivered a Backstabber to Rhodes and ran from the ring.
Later, Santinos partner wasnt around to protect him, however, as the cocky Superstar had an unpleasant encounter with WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper. (WATCH)
High-flying friends in low places In tag action, Paul London & Brian Kendrick sustained their winning ways on Raw, while Lance Cade & Trevor Murdochs downward spiral continued. London & Kendricks in-ring symmetry is second to none, and Kendrick capitalized on a Murdoch mistake to get the win.
After the match, Cade once again berated his tag partner, but Murdoch took to the announce table, where he sang his rendition of Friends in Low Places, confusing our fans as well as his frustrated partner, Lance Cade. (WATCH)
Union Jack and Jane Finally, Raw General Manager William Regals fellow countrymen, Paul & Katie Lea Burchill, competed in the new kings name in an Intergender Handicap Match against Super Crazy. The Burchill siblings dominated Super Crazy, and after a devastating curb stomp by Paul, he allowed his sister to get the pin for the victory.

Credit: PWInsider.com
WWE has officially announced that Mick Foley will be calling the Smackdown matches on tonight's Backlash PPV, including World Champion Edge vs. The Undertaker. Foley will be calling the matches alongside Michael Cole. The WWE.com article states that this will be Foley's "debut on color commentary for Smackdown", implying that this is more than a one time appearance. So, it looks like Jonathan Coachman's run as color man on Smackdown is over.
Mother of several famous wrestlers dies Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/26/2008 at 11:55 PM
Elevera Anoai Fatu, the mother of wrestlers Ed Fatu (Umaga), Solofa Fatu (Rikishi) and Sam Fatu (Tonga Kid), died yesterday after a seven year battle with cancer. She was also the sister of Afa & Sika.
According to Georgiann Makropolous, the funeral will be a week from tomorrow in Las Vegas.
Shannon Moore def. WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz Natalya def. Cherry Edge def. CM Punk Vladimir Kozlov def. Marty Garner World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker def. Batista (No Disqualification Match)
GREENSBORO, N.C. With Backlash just 48 hours away, Edge and his entourage kicked off Friday Night SmackDown with a bold prediction the World Heavyweight and ECW Championships would soon be returned to their rightful owners within the family ranks. But before the titles would be contested on Sunday, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero upped the ante in the nights title match between World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and Batista by making it a No Disqualification bout with the winner to face Edge at Backlash.
But as the countdown began to finding out who Edges Backlash opponent would be, CM Punk entered the arena with his Money in the Bank briefcase to taunt the Rated-R Superstar. As the two engaged in a verbal sparring bout, the GM took it to the next level by setting up a match between her fiancé and Mr. Money in the Bank for later in the night on SmackDown.
Despite being scheduled for a huge title match just 48 hours later at Backlash, Edge showed no signs of taking it easy when he faced Punk. After a few near pinfalls from both men, it was a ringside appearance from Zack Ryder which provided the distraction the Ultimate Opportunist needed to deliver a hard-hitting spear and get the win over Punk. (WATCH)
Hot streak After a botched Reality Check from WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz, Shannon Moore defeated the Chick Magnet much to the dismay of Mizs partner and guest commentator, John Morrison. (WATCH) The scene was reminiscent of Tuesday night on ECW when Jimmy Wang Yang defeated John Morrison with The Miz looking on as a guest commentator. Do the Redneck & the Reject have the combo to unlock the Palace of Wisdom?
Looking sharp After making an impact the last few weeks on SmackDown, Natalya made her in-ring debut. The third-generation Diva employed a wicked sharpshooter to get the submission victory over Cherry who she will again face in a 12-Diva Tag Team Match at Backlash. (WATCH) Will Natalyas winning ways continue?
Score to settle SmackDowns Michael Cole welcomed Matt Hardy to the ring to talk about the heated year-long rivalry between Hardy and United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter. But as Hardy let our fans know his injured knee had fully recuperated and hes ready to face MVP at Backlash, SmackDown's Franchise Playa interrupted and made his way to the ring. As the two aired their differences, Hardy made it clear there would never be a return to the days when they were friends and tag team partners. Things escalated as MVP viciously kicked Hardys surgically-repaired knee and clobbered him in the head with his title. With tensions now well past the boiling point, the two will be looking to settle the score in a title match this Sunday at Backlash. (Backlash preview)
Start of a streak Staying undefeated is a superhuman feat in WWE. Since debuting on SmackDown on April 4, Vladimir Kozlov has done just that by vanquishing all of his opponents. This week, his fourth and latest victim was Marty Garner, who was put away with a crushing reverse DDT. Is anyone capable of stopping this Russian superpower?
Backlash bound With CM Punk taken care of, all that remained for Edge was to learn who he would face at Backlash current World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker or Batista. As The Phenom and The Animal fought it out for the title, it was a surprise appearance from Shawn Michaels and Sweet Chin Music which not only enabled Undertaker to successfully defend his title, but simultaneously ensure HBK himself would face rival Batista at Backlash.
Jonathan Coachman may be getting replaced as the color commentator on Friday Night SmackDown. WWE officials contacted Mick Foley for an announcer role on the brand.

SmackDown Star Struggling With Injury Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/24/2008 at 12:04 PM
The Great Khali has been battling ongoing problems in his knees and has been struggling to get around recently, reports prowrestling.NET. Some of his colleagues believe that he needs surgery on both knees. Khali previously underwent knee surgeries back in late 2006, which put him out of action for about three months. Khali is scheduled to make a trip back home to India, so it could not have come at a better time.
Last night's three hour edition of RAW featuring the King of the Ring and the presidential candidates drew a 3.0 rating. The first hour of the show dragged the rating down, as it drew a 2.4 rating. Raw in its regular timeslot drew a 3.3 rating, up from last week's 3.2 rating. The final two hours drew a 3.345 rating to be exact. In comparison, last month's three-hour RAW drew a 3.6 rating.
TNA actually beats WWE in the ratings, more Posted by Bobby Spade on 04/23/2008 at 11:01 AM
TNA Impact beat both Raw and Smackdown in the Australian ratings. Impact had 43,000 viewers (ranking the show #28 on Pay TV) in only its second week of airing in the land down under. Smackdown had 38,000 viewers and Raw had 36,000 viewers.
Tommy Dreamer & Kelly Kelly def. Mike Knox & Layla Jimmy Wang Yang def. John Morrison Kofi Kingston def. Shelton Benjamin Mark Henry def. Nunzio
GREENSBORO, N.C. The Cutting Edge came to ECW Tuesday night, and Edge's talk show ended on an explosive note. But before families collided in the Land of the Extreme, a tag match started off the night at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Tommy Dreamer & Kelly Kelly met Mike Knox & Layla in mixed tag team action on Tuesday night. The Divas ongoing rivalry heated up the ECW ring, but the blonde bombshell was in the winning corner after pinning her former friend, Layla. As Kelly Kelly & Dreamer celebrated their win, Knox attacked the ECW Original, who has recently been seen aiding youngster Colin Delaney. After Dreamer was assaulted, Kelly Kelly ran to Dreamers side in the ring as Knox stared them down.
Also on ECW, Jimmy Wang Yang faced John Morrison, as their respective tag team partners, Shannon Moore and The Miz, who made a guest appearance at the announce table, looked on. WWE Tag Team Champions Morrison & The Miz defeated Yang & Moore on SmackDown two weeks ago, but their winning streak came to a halt when Morrison fought solo, as Yang picked up the victory on ECW.
In other extreme action, Kofi Kingston maintained his undefeated streak. The Jamaican Superstar was victorious again, this time against Shelton Benjamin, the Gold Standard. It seems the happy-go-lucky Kingston just cant be stopped when it comes to taking care of trouble in Tuesday night paradise.
Also on Tuesday, Nunzio met the Worlds Strongest Man, Mark Henry in the ECW ring. After an intense staredown, Henry was victorious over his opponent, who he outweighs by 210 pounds and 6 inches.
Finally, ECW Champion Kane was Edges special guest on The Cutting Edge, but Tuesday nights talk show turned into an all-out brawl when Kane clashed with Chavo Guerreros familia.
Chris Jericho def. MVP (1st Round Match) CM Punk def. Matt Hardy (1st Round Match) Finlay def. The Great Khali (Disqualification) (1st Round Match) William Regal def. Hornswoggle (1st Round Match) CM Punk def. Chris Jericho (Semifinal Match) William Regal def. Finlay (Semifinal Match) William Regal def. CM Punk (Finals Match) Carlito def. Hardcore Holly Sen. Hillary Clinton vs. Sen. Barack Obama (No contest) Randy Orton, JBL, Edge and Chavo Guerrero def. Triple H, John Cena, Kane and Undertaker (Eight-Man Tag Team Match)
GREENSVILLE, S.C. - The night before Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama faced off in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary to determine their partys presidential nominee, the two faced off in the squared circle on Raw only to have Umaga crash the party.
Whatcha gonna do when Hill-a-Mania brings real change to Washington and runs wild all over YOU? asked Sen. Clinton, accompanied by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
As Sen. Obama entered the ring, he asked the masses if they could, smell what Barack is cooking?
Once the bell rang, Sen. Clinton immediately went on the offensive, even lifting Sen. Obama and slamming him to the canvas. Then, just as Obama seemed to be on the attack, former President Clinton yanked his leg from outside the ring. As the two continued to battle for their partys nomination, a spoiler candidate interrupted the match: The Samoan Bulldozer.
As WWE presented its version of the Dems, Umaga proved that hes no fan of politics as he plowed through each of the candidates, leaving them motionless on the mat. With his landslide beatdown, dont be surprised if the next bumper sticker you see reads, Umaga 08! (WATCH)
Phenomenal Success All three Backlash Main Events were represented in a power-driven Eight-Man Tag Team Match pitting Triple H, John Cena and The Brothers of Destruction (World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and ECW Champion Kane) against Randy Orton, JBL, Edge and Chavo Guerrero. With all the pent up anger ready to burst, fireworks seemed inevitable. The ECW Champion had hoisted Guerrero for a chokeslam when, without warning, Edge darted between the ropes and speared the Big Red Machine for the victory. At that point, the fuse was lit. Orton and JBL teamed up to lay out both Triple H and Cena. But before the two could rejoice, however, Undertaker showed his dominance just days before his title defense against Edge by seizing both Orton and JBL by the neck and leveling the pair with a chokeslam to remain the only man standing. (WATCH)
Cold Warriors The war of words between Shawn Michaels and Batista continues to rage in the lead up to their match at Backlash. This week, tensions escalated as they exchanged more heated words regarding HBK retiring Ric Flair at WrestleMania. Batista told HBK that he would end their feud in the ring at Backlash. For his part, Michaels claimed that he will stop at nothing to defeat The Animal. Before parting, the two shook hands with Batista offering up one of his intimidating glares. Those hands will be used to different effect this Sunday as two of WWEs biggest names look to end their personal issues inside the ring. (WATCH)
Bold and Beautiful To celebrate Mickie James emotional Womens Title win last week, a host of Divas, including Maria, Ashley, Michelle McCool, Cherry and Kelly Kelly, summoned the new champion to the ring. But all the merriment proved too much for Beth Phoenix to bear. Accompanied by Melina, Jillian, Victoria, Layla and Natalya Neidhart, the former champion confronted her adversaries and told them their celebration was a slap in the face. Thats when McCool demonstrated to The Glamazon what a real slap in the face feels like. After that, all bets were off as the beauties turned beastly in a Diva free for all, with WWEs favorite femme fatales standing tall. (PHOTOS)
International Incident In a possible sneak peek at the World Tag Team Title Match, Carlito battled one-half of the tag team champions, Hardcore Holly. With their respective partners Santino Marella and Cody Rhodes waiting ringside, Carlito and Holly clashed until the Caribbean Bad Apple hit the Backstabber for the three-count. Afterward, the Italian Stallion mouthed off to Rhodes until the young gun smacked him with the microphone and demanded respect. The International Superstars have momentum on their side, but will it be enough? (PHOTOS)
King of Pain Not only did William Regal leverage his power as Raw General Manager to insert himself into the King of the Ring Tournament, the below-the-belt Brit also emerged sporting the crown. The Englishman won all three of his King of the Ring Matches by submission, forcing Hornswoggle, Finlay and CM Punk to tap out. Read the full story...
Jeff Hardy will be cleared to return from suspension on the weekend of May 10. The Raw brand will be touring Michigan that weekend. He should be at the 5/12 Raw in Detroit.
-- As noted earler, Ron Killings suffered at shoulder injury at the 4/8 Raw brand house show in Trenton, New Jersey. The shoulder had been hurting beforehand as it was heavily iced the night before at television after his dark match on the show.
