INDIANAPOLIS Twenty-four hours earlier, at Night of Champions, several WWE Superstars were in heaven when they earned new championships. During Raw, however, WWE Champion Randy Orton, Sheamus, John Cena and Wade Barrett realized they'll be feeling the heat when they compete at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
John Cena def. The Nexus in a Gauntlet Match by Disqualification; John Cena and Wade Barrett agreed to a match at Hell in a Cell (PHOTOS | WATCH: PART 1 | PART 2) John Cena was really looking forward to punishing his longtime tormentor, Wade Barrett. Instead, the Englishman arranged a Gauntlet Match featuring the members of The Nexus against Cena. With little choice, Cena agreed and methodically proceeded to muscle his way through Heath Slater, David Otunga and Michael Tarver. Before he could polish off Justin Gabriel, though, Nexus charged the ring, pummeling Cena and allowing him to win by disqualification.
After the bout, Cena rampaged against the band of outlaws, sending them scurrying up the entrance ramp. After The Nexus retreat, Cena proposed a challenge of his own to the groups leader: The two of them one-on-one when Hell in a Cell takes place inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Before consenting, though, Barrett proposed that were he to win, Cena must join The Nexus. Cena agreed, but only on one condition: If he were to win, The Nexus must disband. The Englishman reluctantly agreed as the two men narrowed their eyes on one another, eager to end their hostilities once and for all within the confines of the Devils Playground.
Eve & R-Truth def. Maryse & Ted DiBiase (PHOTOS | WATCH) Its true what they say, money cant buy happiness. Just ask Ted DiBiase. The Fortunate Son and his special lady friend, Maryse, competed against R-Truth & Eve for the second week in a row. And once again, the well-heeled couple came up bankrupt, this time, Eve pinning Maryse for the victory. After the match, an anonymous message the second in as many weeks popped up on the Titan Tron stating, I Will Have You, prompting more tension between the moneyed pair.
WWE Champion Randy Orton to face Chris Jericho next week (JERICHO'S NEW DVD SET) His losing streak persisting, Chris Jericho is lashing out. After threatening to reveal the identity of the anonymous Raw General Manager, Jericho was confronted by new WWE Champion Randy Orton. The Viper challenged Jericho to a match the following week, stating that if he wins, hes confident he wont have to see Jerichos face again for a long, long time. Jericho agreed to the match, claiming hes made a career out of embarrassing people who underestimate me.
Co-Unified Divas Champion Layla def. Melina (PHOTOS | WATCH) It was supposed to be payback time for Melina. The Latina lovely sought to punish Layla for interfering in her Unification Lumberjill Match against Michelle McCool at Night of Champions and costing her the Unified Divas Championship. With her partner McCool looking on at ringside, Layla faced down Melina in the title match. Unfortunately for Melina, the self-described Unified Divas Champions would once again strut from the ring with their championship belts severed but their Unified Divas Championship intact.
U.S. Champion Daniel Bryan def. Edge by Disqualification (PHOTOS |WATCH) Excuses needed for Miz, stat! One day after losing the United States Championship to Daniel Bryan, The Cleveland Screamer employed some medical mumbo-jumbo in hopes of explaining away the loss. Mr. Money in the Bank then sat at the announcers table as the new U.S. Champ faced off against Edge. During the bout, Mizs protégé, Alex Riley, distracted the ref long enough to allow Miz to interfere. The confusion paved the way for The Ultimate Opportunist to roll up Daniel Bryan for the win.
Unfortunately for Edge, the Raw GM sees all. The anonymous GM reversed the referees decision, awarding the match to Daniel Bryan by disqualification. The Rated-R Superstar then went off on a rant against the GM once the decision was announced. The Miz and Riley also went off on Daniel Bryan. The U.S. Champ suffered a frat-boy beatdown at the hands of his two tormentors.
John Morrison def. Chris Jericho (PHOTOS | WATCH) Alert the media! Mr. Vocabulary has been rendered speechless! In his latest colossal letdown, Chris Jericho failed in his quest to defeat The Shaman of Sexy, John Morrison. Jericho was left to ponder where exactly his mojo ran off to after this, his second indignity in just 24 hours. His first humiliation came at Night of Champions when he was quickly booted from the Six Pack Elimination Challenge after a blink-and-youll-miss-it performance.
WWE Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre & Dashing Cody Rhodes def. Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov (PHOTOS | WATCH) Its one thing when Kane wins a championship. After all, it gives that hideous specimen something to live for, right? But now, striking Superstars Drew McIntyre and Dashing Cody Rhodes are sporting the WWE Tag Team Titles after defeating The Hart Dynasty and three other teams in Tag Team Turmoil at Night of Champions. Man, life just isnt fair.
The handsome pair managed to rub it in even further when they battled Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title bout on Raw, one night after their huge win. McIntyre & Rhodes continued their winning streak with what else? a gorgeous victory.
WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Sheamus at Hell in a Cell arranged by Raw GM (PHOTOS) One mans triumph is often another mans tragedy. That adage certainly proved true at the conclusion of Night of Champions less than 24 hours earlier when Randy Orton and then-WWE Champion Sheamus found themselves the last two competitors remaining in the Six Pack Elimination Challenge. In the end, though, The Vipers skill and athleticism would overcome the pound and fury of the Irishman, who he leveled with an RKO to capture the WWE Title.
With only a day to digest his victory, new WWE Champion Orton entered the Conseco Fieldhouse brandishing the title to the roar of the WWE Universe. The spectacle proved too agonizing for Sheamus, who interrupted the celebration to complain and point out that hed never lost the title in a singles match. His bellyaching caught the attention of the Raw General Manager, who chimed in to inform the two that they will compete for the WWE Title inside Satans Structure at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in two weeks. And this time, there will be no disqualifications, no count-outs, no escapes and, most pointedly of all, no excuses.
After the match was announced, Sheamus insisted Orton hand over the WWE Title. Careful what you wish for. The Viper tossed the championship into the Irishmans hands and then leveled him with an RKO. But as Orton set up to punt Sheamus skull, The Celtic Warrior quickly scuttled out of the ring.
