OFFICIAL TNA "iMPACT!" RESULTS FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 26 By Mike Kerrigan
The first ever meeting between Kurt Angle and Sting open up the broadcast. The two veterans go for their patented submissions early on, but to no avail. The fight eventually leads to the outside of the ring, when out of nowhere, Team Cage come down and attack both Angle and Sting. As Sting is put into the "Steiner Recliner" the rest of Team Cage beat Kurt Angle down with a steel chair. Christian Cage ends the beating with a vicious DDT on the steel chair.
During the commercial break, Kurt was wheeled out on a stretcher. Jeremy Borash catches up with Team Cage to get the comments on what they did. Cage says that it was his mission to take out Kurt Angle tonight and that he should have never tried to hot shot himself to a title shot. Don West then runs into the locker-room to give a message from Jim Cornette. He says that tonight it will be Cage vs. Sting for the NWA Title and if Team Cage tries to interfere, Sting will walk away the champ.
Next up is Sabin's 4-Way Suicidal Stampede; in which 4 teams of two square off, with the winning team getting a chance for the X-Division Title in a Triple Threat Match at Sacrifice. The teams were Alex Shelley and Kaz, Petey Williams and Jerry Lynn, Senshi and Sharkboy, and Black Machismo and Sonjay Dutt. The end of the match included some great X-Division action, seeing a spectacular top rope plancha from Senshi onto 4 opponents outside the ring. In the end, it was Sonjay Dutt and Black Machismo coming away with the victory. Yet Dutt was none too pleased that Machismo got the pinfall. It seems that Dutt is a little frustrated that he is not getting the same exposure as one Jay Lethal.
Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks are waiting in the ring to find out who Eric Young's "friend" is. Eric comes out and tells Roode "All I have is wrestling and you're trying to take that away from me. The only thing more important to me is my word, and that will never be broken." Roode slaps EY around to try and get the answer out of him, but Eric finally has enough and beats down Roode with countless punches. After Ms. Brooks slaps Eric, she is met with a huge powerbomb. Yet she is somehow able to give Showtime a lowblow when he goes to hit Roode again. Roode hits Eric with a chair and cuffs him. As Ms. Brooks holds Eric on his knees, Roode demands to know who the friend is by the count of 3 or Eric will have his brains scrambled. As Roode counts to 3, the all too familiar sirens blare through the arena and Jeff Jarrett comes to the ring, beats Roode down and tosses him out of the ring. Ms. Brooks tries for another lowblow, but Jeff grabs her hand and hits her with a guitar shot heard round the world. Maybe "Uncle Jeff" was a lot more loyal to Eric Young then anyone once thought.
The Tag Team Titles are up for grabs for the second week in a row, when Team 3D square off against Scott Steiner and Tomko. The expierience of Team 3D was a huge advantage in the match as it seemed to be very one sided. Steiner had control at one point, but was mistakenly thrown out of the ring by Hernandez of LAX. Then Homicide tried to hit Brother Ray with a hurricanrana, but landed on Tomko instead. Team 3D seized the opportunity and hit Tomko with the inverted 3D and retained their titles. After the match Steiner and Tomko had some choice words for LAX. The two teams had a quick brawl as Konnan told Tomko and Steiner "You're going to be our problem now."
A Paparazzi Production of "March of the Backlund" is shown where Alex Shelley is seen pestering Bob Backlund during his daily walk. Shelley asks Bob if he remembers his 9 second match with Keven Nash. Shelley follows up by telling Bob that most of the younger guys could probably beat him in 9 seconds. Bob seems like he is about to tell Alex off, but Alex shows him coins and trash on the ground. When Bob goes to pick them up, he finds the X-Division Title. Just then Sabin is seen trying to get the jump on Backlund but falls on his face. A sample of next week's video is then shown, where it looks like Sabin and Backlund are having an amatuer wrestling match on the side of the road.
Before the main event of Christian Cage and Sting can start, it is announced that Kurt Angle's neck has been stabilized, but he may have suffered a concussion. As Cage walked to the ramp, Sting brought the fight to him before the bell could even ring. Sting seemed to have the match won when he hit a "Scorpion Death Drop" on the champion, but Cage was somehow able to kick out. Sting then hit Cage with a superplex, but before he could make the pin, Kurt Angle came to the ring and attacked the referee and Christian Cage. The ref had no choice but to throw out the match, thus costing Sting his chance for the title. Kurt then grabbed Sting's baseball bat and chased down Cage, but it was Sting who snatched the bat away and hit Angle afterwards to end the show.
