Once upon a time, in a small village by a river, there lived a giant crocodile. The villagers were terrified of the beast, as it had a habit of snatching up anyone who came too close to the water's edge. Despite numerous attempts to hunt and kill the crocodile, it always seemed to evade capture.
One night, a young boy from the village disappeared while fishing at the river. The villagers searched for him frantically, but he was never found. It was assumed that the crocodile had taken him.
From that day on, the villagers avoided the river at all costs. But strange things began to happen. The villagers would hear strange noises coming from the river at night, and some claimed to have seen the ghost of the young boy wandering near the water's edge.
One night, a brave villager decided to investigate. He approached the river, and to his horror, he saw the ghost of the boy standing on the back of the crocodile. The ghost looked at him with sad eyes and whispered, "The crocodile did not take me. I fell into the water and drowned. But the crocodile has been keeping watch over me, and will not let me rest until my body is found."
The villagers searched the river and eventually found the boy's body. They gave him a proper burial and the ghost of the boy was finally able to rest. And the crocodile, no longer burdened with its ghostly companion, disappeared into the river, never to be seen again.
From that day on, the villagers no longer feared the river, and they lived in peace, knowing that the crocodile had been a protector, rather than a monster.
