Ons vakantiegevoel is helaas al gaan vliegen en het gewone leven gaat verder ! ( razend snel trouwens!)
Bart moest voor het werk naar een beurs in Indonesie ( zijn verhaal volgt zeker en vast nog) en dus het weekend van de 24ste waren de poezen en mezelf alleen thuis , alsook de week voorafgaand.
Aldus werken , en ook vaak uit gaan eten met collega's , een leuk restaurant ontdekt met heerlijke margarita's ( en groot , zie maar op de foto !) . Op zaterdag ben ik naar een hobby en kunst festival geweest , en daar met een collega afgesproken . Het was rond de 32 C , prachtig weer, en veel kraampjes met kunstwerkjes, kruiden, koekjes , decoratie voor Kerst ( ja nu al !) glaswerk , kleiwerk , schilderijen , noem maar op !
En dan op Zondag nog maar eens gaan shoppen om de dag te vullen !
Bart is ondertussen maandag aangekomen en is nu nog aan het bekomen van de lange vlucht en jetlag !
Ondertussen ben ik ook al een tijdje bij weight watchers, en ben ik reeds een goeie 11 Kg afgevallen, veel puntjes tellen en gezonde maaltijden maken ( vis groentjes etc ..)
Verder moeten we in het huis nog de laatste puntjes op de 'i' zetten voor de bureau ( we hebben nog een boekenkast nodig ) en algemeen nog wat decoratie nodig in huis , maar we voelen ons al goed thuis in ons nieuwe huis , er komen zeker en vast nog wat foto's van het interieur.

Unfortunately our 'holiday' feeling is gone and life has gone back to its daily routine ! ( and time flies these days , unbelievable, Fall has already arrived !)
Bart had to go to an international expo for work to Indonesia ( I am sure his story will follow ) and so the kitties and me had the house to ourselves the weekend of the 24th and the week before.
So I worked a lot ( busy catching up after vacation) went out for dinner with colleagues , went to this real cool restaurant with delicious food and even more delicious margarita ( and huge ones, see picture) On Saturday I went to an arts and crafts festival with a colleague , it was a really beautiful and hot day , and many people offered their art and crafts for sale, glassware , pottery , paintings , cookies , spices , X mas decoratio, jewelry and many many more things for sale.
And Sunday I did spend some time shopping and that made the day go faster !
Bart arrived last Monday , and he is still getting over the jetlag and his long flights .
And meanwhile I have joined weight watchers for a while now , and I have nearly lost 25 Lbs , so I am counting many points and cooking healthy meals ( lots of fish , veggies etc !)
Our house has really become our home, and we still need to finish the office ( buy a bookcase and install) and finish some last decorations, but whatever we have done and changed so far we are really enjoying , so you can expect some more pictures soon !

We did just spend one lovely week in Turks & Caicos , a Caribbean island, gorgeous weather, turquoise water , white beaches , just like paradise island !

Tussen alle werkzaamheden door - helemaal door Ine geregeld - was er voor mij ook nog twee tripjes: weekje Zuid Afrika begin Augustus en vorige week een korte hop naar Europa. Europa was een 3 stedentrip in 4 dagen: Barcelona, Parijs en Brussel en dus van gelegenheid gebruik gemaakt om wat typische Belgische etenswaren mee te sleuren zoals kaas en pate. De koffer zat goed vol. Ine die heeft ook nog collega vanuit Brazilie op bezoek, dus druk zat.
Dit week-end hadden we dan onze eerste gasten: Arthur en Yvonne werden op vrijdagavond verwacht. Gelukkig zou orkaan Irene ver uit onze buurt blijven dus niets dan blauwe lucht en veel zon voor orkaan Arthur. Vrijdagavond stonden ze rond een uur of 6 voor de deur en konden we meteen wat bijkletsen. Blijkbaar hebben we hetzelfde lievelingsrestaurant dus met zijn allen naar Ted's voor heerlijke bison (of was het nu buffalo want niemand aan tafel wist eigenlijk verschil tussen die twee).
Zaterdag gingen we richting Stone Mountain maar niet nadat we breakfast a la Ine verorberd hadden in onze 'serre'. Eens bij Stone Mountain aangekomen besluiten we eerst om stevig hapje te eten, kwestie dat we kloek staan om de klim naar boven aan te vatten. Tja want die kei beklimmen dat kan toch zo lastig niet zijn? En dat viel behoorlijk tegen in een temperatuur van bijna 40 graden. Maar goed ook zonder conditie geraken we alle 4 boven en hebben we 5 seconden nodig om unaniem te beslissen dat we de kabelbaan terug naar beneden nemen. Met een tussenstop voor milk shake en ijsjes landen we rond zevenen in het zwembad, heerlijk afkoelen. Daarna duiken de mannen nog even de jacuzzi in. Het ding is nu uitgekuist dus dat moeten we testen. De dag wordt afgesloten bij de al even traditionele Japanees. De show cooking was dit keer top, het eten lekker en daarna nog wat genieten van de sterrenhemel tot net na middernacht.
Vandaag Zondag deel 2 van breakfast a la ine en daarna nog vlug even naar downtown Woodstock vooraleer onze gasten vertrekken en opnieuw richting Florida karren. En wij blijven met zijn tweetjes achter en bereiden ons voor op onze laatste werkweek vooraleer we op vakantie gaan!!

Na een lange vermoeiende dag..../after long day....
In between the last house jobs, all co-ordinated by Ine, I had to go to our office in South Africa (beginning of August) and to Europe (last week). Europe was like 3 cities in 4 days: Barcelona, Paris and Brussels. So I arrived back in Atlanta with some Belgian stuff like cheese, chocolate and bread. Also Ine was busy as a colleague from Brazil was in town.
Luckily Hurricane Irene decided to take a right and so no impact for Atlanta: nothing but sunshine and blue skies. Ideal for our first visitors: Arthur and Yvonne arrived Friday around 6 pm. As it seems we both enjoy a good bison at Ted's, it was a pretty easy decision where to go.
Saturday morning we did enjoy breakfast a la Ine. We decide to go to Stone Mountain and be brave: walk up the mountain. Does not seems too high so cannot be that difficult? Hmhmhm it is much steeper than expected and with mid 90s also the heat makes it very tough. Once on the top it took all of us 5 seconds to agree we should take the 'skytrain' down. We deserved milk shakes and ice cream on the way home. Best way to cool down is of course the swimming pool, followed by a jump in our totally cleaned jacuzzi. Diner is the very traditional Japanese. This time the show cooking is top. A perfect day!
Sunday we start same way as yesterday: breakfast a la ine. Mid afternoon and after a quick visit to downtown (no not Atlanta but Woodstock) our guest do leave returning to Florida. So back to just the two of us and preparing for our last week before our holiday!!
Jullie zullen dit niet geloven , maar de filter ( de juiste ) is vorige week Maandag in orde gebracht ! Ik had namelijk gevraagd om van thuis uit te werken want de firma van het alarm zou die dag komen om het systeem in orde te brengen.
De firma van het alarm had beloofd dezelfde persoon te sturen omdat hij wist welke stukken we nodig hadden, toen ik de deur opentrok stond daar, jawel een andere technieker. Tot mijn verbazing had hij alles bij ( amai en dit na 10 tal telefoons en een afspraak of 3 en nog een paar afspraken waar niemand kwam opdagen ... En dus nu werkt onze tweede touchscreen vanuit de slaapkamer en de afstandsbediening , en de sirene, tja als die ooit afgaat da is de inbreker wellicht doof ...
Het weekend van de 13de hebben we eindelijk een sofa gevonden , het is een mooie 2 persoonszetel en het was het allerlaatste stuk , dat is de onze ! Terwijl we aan het rondwandelen waren zagen we een mooie lamp en hup deze ook meegenomen !!
Dit weekend werd onze sofa geleverd en wij zijn blij met het resultaat ( en de poezen ook, ze vinden de zetel heerlijk zacht !)
Bart is ook begonnen met het poetsen van onze jacuzzi , volgende stap laten vollopen en de nodige chemicalien toevoegen !
Ondertussen heb ik nog een schilderij gekocht , en moeten er nog kleine taken gebeuren , dat is voor onze klusjesman ( een paar planken om de flessen op te zetten in de bar, schilderij ophangen, nieuwe verlichting voor de ontbijthoek , 2 vlaggestokken ( jawel we zijn in het bezit van een grote mooie Belgische en Amerikaanse vlag) .

8th of August 21st of August
You will not believe this one , but our filter ( and yes , the right size) has been delivered and installed last week Monday ! I was working from home as the company of our alarm system was scheduled that day to finalize some changes and fix installation issues.
The company of our alarm system promised to send the same technician of the week before, as he knew which items he had to bring with him , and when I opened the door I did see yes, another technician. To my surprise he did have the right equipment ( after over 10 calls, 3 appointments , and some no-show appointments ) And so our 2nd touchscreen is fully operational, the remote works fine, and the siren , well if this one goes of the burglar will be deaf for sure
The weekend of the 13th was pretty relaxed, starting to enjoy the house, did find a sofa , a pretty loveseat , and it was the final one ,so we did not take too much time to make a decision !
As we were walking in the store, we found a beautiful lamp and could not resist to bring it as it matches perfectly !
This weekend we had our sofa delivery , on time and great service and we are very happy with the result ( and our cats too , they love it , really soft )
Bart did start to clean our hot tub , and next step will be to fill the tub and add the right chemicals !!
Finally I have found this beautiful painting , and next we have a couple of more jobs for our handyman , such as hanging the painting , installing shelves in our bar to store the bottles , installation of 2 flag poles outside ( we have got a beautiful Belgian and American flag , they are huge and pretty !) a new pendant for the breakfast corner ( stainless steel) , we are nearly finished !!

Vervolg verhuis en leveringenâ moving and more , the story continues
30 Juli - 8 Augustus
Aldus hadden we op Zaterdag 30 juli voorzien om 9 am te tafel te laten verhuizen. Geen kat te horen , geen kat te zien , na veel heen en weer gebel bleken ze niet genoeg manschappen te hebben en dus hadden ze geen tijd. Ze zouden ons terug contacteren op Zaterdag want de Zondag verhuizen ze ook , maar alweer niks gehoord
Wij op zondag op pad , op zoek naar een extra sofa, de zetel die we al hadden vliegt de kelder in , en we hebben een sofa nodig naast onze recliner of de gasten ( of wij ) moeten op de grond zitten in de living.
De eerst winkel was duur en bestelling zou weken duren , dat willen we dus niet en besluiten naar Macys furniture te gaan. Het was al rond 17h en de telefoon gaat , nie te geloven , de verhuisfirma, die staan er binnen een uurtje , op een zondagavondzeg ! Rond 20 h staat onze tafel er en zo zit een ander weekend erop !
En dan de airco beslist om het op te geven, de koelvloeistof van 300 dollar heeft het een week uitgehouden , dit betekent dat het lek echt wel serieus is. Gelukkig hebben we het contract gevonden van de home warranty dit is een extra verzekering voor een jaar geldig die we bij de koop van het huis gekregen hadden die ons verzekerd tegen breuk van alle electrische toestellen. Ik krijg na 45 min iemand aan de lijn en een technieker komt op dinsdag
Het weekend van 6 Augustus hebben we 3 afspraken op Zaterdag , sinds we al een paar keer ervaren hebben dat niet alle afspraken nageleefd worden , verwachten we niet veel van die dag , maar ze komen alledrie opdagen :
1/ levering tafel en stoelen ( hoezo die moeten we zelf nog samenknutselen? Gelukkig niet veel werk ..)
2/ de filter , niet te geloven, en nog minder te geloven toen hij na 15 minuten bezweet van de zolder komt met de melding , eeuuuhm mevrouw , ik heb de verkeerde maat besteld ( waaaa !!)
3/ het alarmsysteem voor de afwerking met een opsomming wat er moet gebeuren , maar die stukken hebben we niet bij hoor
We hebben onze nieuwe tafel , we moeten nog op zoek naar een sofa en boekenkasten , maar dat zijn de laatste details , het huis begint echt vorm te krijgen en bevalt ons heel erg.
Goed nieuws , na veel heen en weer gebelen opvolging , heeft de verzekering de firma van de airco de toelating gegeven de reparaties uit te voeren , en sinds Maandag is het terug lekker fris in huis, fantastisch want de buitentemperaturen zijn nu een 35 C !!

July 30th - August 8th
On Saturday July 30th , we were waiting for the moving company to come over @ 9 am as agreed to move our heavy
outdoor garden table. As Bart was waiting , no one showed up and after calling several times it appeared they had the crate to move but not enough manpower. Since They also work on Sunday we were going to be called back for a possible appointment but did not hear anything anymore..
So we decide to go shopping for a sofa on Sunday , as the sectional we had is moving to our basement en we need an extra sofa as we only have the 2 recliners left so either we or guests would have to sit on the carpet which is not cool !!
The first store was expensive and the custom order would take weeks, this is not really an option for us and we decide to go to Macys furniture. It was around 5 pm , and all of the sudden my phone rings , believe it or not , the moving company called to say they would be there in 1 hour , on a Sunday evening ! Around 8 pm we have our table in the sunroom , and there goes another weekend !
But our happiness did not last too long , we noticed the heat going up in the house, and yes , the airco gave up a second time, meaning the expensive 350 dollar Freon lasted us a week so the leak must be huge! Luckily the home came with a warranty and we found the right box back which had the documents and after waiting for 45 minutes I was able to schedule a visit for a technician.
For the weekend of August 6th , we have 3 appointments , but we do not expect to see all the companies as we have had
that issue before , however all 3 showed up on Saturday :
1/ our furniture delivery we bought 3 weeks ago ( what do you mean , we have to put the table together ?? ) luckily it was not too complicated ..
2/ finally the delivery and installation of a lifetime filter for the A/C unit on the attic , unbelievable they showed up , even more unbelievable was when the technician came down after 15 minutes to say he ordered the wrong size ( waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
3/ the final touches for our alarmsystem , some minor things need to be finished, luckily it works good but we can only use one panel for now , we got a summary of the to dos together with I am sorry we dont have this equipment with us
So we have our breakfast corner table and chairs, we still have to find a sofa and book cabinets , but these are the last details. The house really starts looking like our home and we like it a lot !
And finally some good news, last week the insurance company gave authorization to the A/C company to fix the unit , and since Monday , our A/C is fully operational ! With outdoor temperatures of 95 F ( about 35-37 C ) this is really good news !!
Aldus Zaterdag 23 juli was dan de laatste sleepdag.Zelfde verhuisfirma als vorige keer besteld en die stonden netjes om 9 uur voor de deur, 5 man sterk.
Wat had ik trouwens gezegd van zou leuk zijn mocht een keer alles meteen 100% geregeld zijn ?
Niet dus want de mannen hebben geen krat bij, dus onze tuintafel verkassen dan zal vandaag niet lukken.Dat zal dus voor volgende week Zaterdag zijn .. (grgrgrgr en zo blijven we bezig).
De rest verloopt vlot en de vroege namiddag zijn de heren volledig klaar en wonder boven wonder onze meubels hebben ook de derde keer de ganse verhuis overleefd.Ons huisje ziet er zo al een stuk beter uit met onze eigen spulletjes.
Ondertussen ook de airco man over de vloer gehad en ja we hebben een lek: ofwel nieuwe airco ofwel freon (koelvloeistof) bijkappen en hopen dat lek niet te groot is.We kiezen voor gemakkelijkste oplossing en dat is dus de koelvloeistof.Fingers crossed want de zomer is nog lang en vooral zeer warm.
De rest van de afspraken voor het week-end sturen hun kat: dus alarmsysteem nog steeds niet 100% geinstalleerd en ook extra filter voor airco is niet geleverd (grgrgrgr deel 2)
Rest van het week-end vooral doosjes uitpakken en op Zondag gaan we richting downtown want Ine heeft er een leuke meubelwinkel gezien.Het is er inderdaad best leuk en we kopen een ontbijttafel, stoeltjes en een lamp.Binnen twee weken wordt alles aan huis geleverd.
We eten een hapje (tja mijn hamburger was echt wel een hap) en genieten even van een 'grote stad' vooraleer we terug naar het 'platteland' rijden, want zo wordt ons 'stadje ' smalend genoemd door de lokalen.
Op Maandag krijgen we de eindafrekening van onze contractor en Ine wordt een beetje boos en stuurt een e-mail die nogal onAmerikaans direct is.Het mist zijn effect niet, dezelfde avond passeert de lieve man om alles te bespreken en een oplossing te zoeken.Moet zeggen Ine haar wonderboy heeft al veel van zijn pluimen verloren.
Grootste probleem is dat bij het douchen het water blijft staan en dus geen of onvoldoendehelling is aangebracht. Dat wordt dus op zijn kosten uitbreken en herbeginnen.Afspraak Zaterdag 30 juli.
Ine slaagt er ook in om de volledige kost van haar dampkamp uit de factuur te onderhandelen.
Meteen probeert Ine ook fitlers te laten leveren op Zaterdag en organiseren we tuintafel-verhuis.
Als dat maar goed afloopt, zou uiteindelijk dan toch iets meteen 100% opgelost kunnen worden??
Last Saturday we had the actual moving plan , same company we used the year before . They arrived on 9 am on time, a crew of 5 people, so far so good.
Remember when we mentioned we have a feeling not all jobs can be done right the first time, we have another example to add: oops they forgot the crate needed to move the granite top ofour outside table that will be for next week Saturday , sorry !! (and so we keep on planning extra things to be done each week it drives us insane !!)
The actual move goes really smooth and our furniture survives the move and our house feels like a home with all our goods in place.
Meanwhile we had a company in for our A/C , as we could not find the home warranty contract immediately we decided to call a company anyway and see what the issue is. The issue is a leak in the coil, and a quick fix is adding expensive Freon which might last a week or might take us through summer. We take the risk and add the Freon at our own expense cause next option is replacing the coil or the full unit for which we need our warranty anyhow as we do not want this extra charge at this point with all other changes we have done and we really want some cool air ..
Still have not seen people to fix the one panel of the alarm system, other company had to come in to install a lifetime filter in AC upstairs (2nd attempt for appointment) so we start unpacking and on Sunday we go to midtown as Ine did discover a contemporary store where we order a breakfast table, a pendant and while we are there new pasta bowls and dinner plates.
We have dinner @ Tap , a cool place in midtown with a great selection of beers and cool concept indoors .
On Monday we receive the last invoice of our contractor and Ine does not like what she sees as we feel the job is not finished. The shower floor lacks of a slope and the water does not drain properly. That same night we meet with the contractor and they agreed to demolish the current floor and redo the floor which will be done over the weekend. Even though the job should have been done, at least a solution will be made which we will not be billed for additional.
We meanwhile reschedule the alarm system company, the company who has to install the filter, and the move of the outside table.
Wonder how many items will be finally fixed after rescheduling
Woensdag 20 juli 2011 En het gehol stopte dus niet bij onze terugkomst, daarom de reden waarom het zo lang heeft geduurd voor we nog een keer iets konden posten.
De laatste loodjes wegen het zwaarst of vrij vertaald de laatste veranderingen aan het huis bleven en blijven maar duren.Helemaal gek maken ze je hier want niets is meteen 100% ok.Zo kwam er een nieuw deurslot met cijfercode op de voordeur. Ja degene die we besteld hadden was nog niet binnen dus dan maar andere tijdelijke geplaatst, moet dus nog terugkomen.
Ons veiligheidssysteem had ook probleempje met een van de twee schermen en kon dit niet zomaar oplossen, dus die moet nog terugkomen.
En als klap op de vuurpijl moet onze contractor na ongeveer een maand toegeven dat hij Ine haar lievelingsdampkamp niet kan installeren, veel te moeilijk.Kon ie dat dan niet vanaf het begin zeggen??
Dus Ine op zoek naar andere contractor die op Zaterdag 16 juli even kwam kijken en volgens hem een koud kunstje.Toen Ine vertelde dat het vlug moest gebeuren en mits aanbieden van Belgische chocolade (omkoopkunsten van Ine) gaat de man overstag hij komt morgen Zondag, jawel op Zondag, de boel installeren.Uiteindelijk bleek het niet zo een koud kunstje te zijn en is de man de ganse dag in de weer om uiteindelijk na 6 uur zwoegen ook nog eens van zijn ladder te vallen.Veel bloed maar gelukkig niets ernstig dus we sturen hem naar huis, genoeg is genoeg.
Uiteindelijk twee dagen verder komt alles in orde en is Ine haar dampkamp eindelijk geinstalleerd, amaai was da een lijdensweg, maar het eindresultaat mag er zijn.
En je bent geen echte Amerikaan als je niet 1 keer in je leven ge-U-hauled hebt.Wat is da? Wel U haul zijn verhuistrucks die je kan huren om zelf te sleuren (voor onze Nederlandse lezers: een boedelbak maar dan wel Amerikaans model: iets groter en breder), je ziet ze hier echt overal en om de haverklap.Dus Zondag 17 juli was het dan zover, ikke blij als een klein kind want we gaan U-haulen.Gelukkig is het iets minder warm (rond 28 graden) en met volle moed beginnen we aan de sleur.Amaai we zijn beiden volledig gekraakt tegen de avond maar onze 80-tal dozen en een matras hebben we zelf versleurd.We kunnen tijdelijk in ons nieuw huisje slapen en volgende week komt dan een echte verhuisfirma onze meubels verkassen (daar hadden we echt geen zin in).
Woensdag 20 juli was onze eerste nacht in nieuwe huis: katten versleept en alle spullen die we dachten nodig te hebben om eerste dagen door te komen (wat kleren, badkamergerief e.d.).
Mijn god wat was het warm, het leek wel of de airco niet naar behoren werkte.En ja hoor wij hadden al vlug door dat die kapot was, dus matras naar boven gesleept (we slepen ondertussen als de besten) want de airco voor gastenkamers werkte wel naar behoren.(elk verdiep heeft gelukkig apart aircosysteem)
Allez nog een afspraak die Ine mocht regelen, een eigen huis een eigen plek onder de zon, veel zin om de tekst van dat liedje eens grondig te herschrijven.
Hopelijk Zaterdag laatste sleurweekend en dan rustig alles uitpakken en kijken hoeveel klussen er nog moeten afgewerkt worden.
After a fun but also exhausting trip to Belgium, the follow up and running back and forward continues, again the reason of the delay of posting and translating new messages ... The last changes and upgrades to the house kept lingering. You would go nuts sometimes as we feel now things can never be done or installed right the first time.
To give an example, we ordered an electronic lock code for the front door which they had in stock, upon installation it was not available and we had another provisional system installed.
Our security system has an issue with one of the 2 control panels, luckily the system works but only 1 panel to activate so they have to return.
And after one month, the icing of the cake.. our contractor feels not comfortable to install the vent hood that was nr 1 on Ines wish list ..
So Ine went looking for another contractor who came by on a Saturday and the job seems easy as pie. Ine asked how soon this could be done and he could start next Sunday (so Ine did give some of the Belgian chocolates as an extra thank you !)
After 6 hours of long workthe contractor fell of the ladder ( the ladder was defect) and luckily he did not hurt himself to bad but still we had to finish for today and 2 days later the vent hood was installed and working , yippie !! It was worth all the hassle , looks great and does a great job !
And the next step is part 1 of the moving, and it is an absolute must to U-Haul to have a true American moving experience . For the people outside US, a U haul is a moving truck that you can rent , for do it yourself moving purpose.
On Sunday July 17th we did rent our truck, luckily it is not extremely hot ( about 28 C- 83 F ) but hot enough to drag over 80 boxes, a mattress and box .. We are really exhausted by the end of that day .. But we can start living in our new house an 1 week later the moving company is planned for the other furniture.
On Wednesday July 20th we did spend the first night in our new house, moved the cats and some more clothes and bathroom things we needed to be able to live there the first days until the other moving company brings out all other things on Saturday.
OMG it felt so hot, but we thought that was because of some additional boxes we had been moving around, unfortunately after taking a shower we noticed the A/C was not working properly, so the first night was horrible, cats meowing all night and not able to sleep because of the heat. The next night we moved the mattress upstairs as we have zoned A/C and luckily still working on the first floor..

Hopefully Saturday the move will go smooth and we can start unpacking and follow up on last jobs that have to be finished inside the house.
Eindelijk eens wat tijd om een update te posten, sorry voor vertraging.
Laatste week van juni was zeer druk, net voor ons verlof naar Belgie moesten er nog veel geregeld worden voor ons huisje: probleem met badkamerverlichting, alarmsysteem moest nog geinstalleerd worden (ook met de nodige hik-ups, wat had je gedacht) enzomeer enzomeer. Dus elke avond zijn we bekaf door al
het gehol.
Aldus vertrokken we redelijk moe richting Belgie op Vrijdag 1 juli.Gelukkig via mijn miles een upgrade naar business kunnen versieren dus toch wel wat kunnen slapen tijdens de grote oversteek.Bij aankomst was het meteen wennen want echt wel dik 15 graden kouder.De jetlag konden we meteen verwerken want de eerste avond was richting Tielt voor de lokale feesten met Stefanie, vriendin van Ine.Rond twee uur s nachts plooien we en liggen we in dromenland.
Zondag was familiefeest bij Ine, altijd lekker en leuk bijkletsen.
Maandag was de enige dag met redelijk zomerweer en dus fietsje uithalen en hop 10 kilometer fietsen richitng Ann die we bezoekje brengen, hopelijk ben je ondertussen helemaal hersteld.
De rest van de week zat behoorlijk vol: inkopen doen (chocolade, kaas en nog andere dingen die wij moeilijk kunnen vinden hier in Atlanta), tandarts bezoek en controle bij de huisdokter.
Maar natuurlijk ook veel gaan eten: met ex college terrasje pakken, met de voetbalvrienden mossels gaan eten (het waren de eerste Zeeuwse mossels, lekker), een terrasje in Kortrijk met geweldige garnaalkroketten, aan zee met Arthur en Yvonne, bezoek aan Vicky, een vriendin van Ine , lekker Americain met Geert en Els en een ongeloofelijk ontbijt met Martine en Eddy. Kortom veel lekker eten, tijd voor dieet als we terug in Atlanta zijn.
En zo waren de 10 dagen zo voorbij en was het helaas opnieuw tijd voor afscheid.Nooit leuk maar gelukkig hebben we nog Skype en zien we elkaar opnieuw met Kerst.
Aldus waren we op Maandag 11 juli terug thuis, dik 20 graden warmer.Want ja hier is ere en hittegolf en gaan we elke dag vlot naar 38 graden die door luchtvochtigheid vaak 40+ aanvoelt.Leve de airco en op naar komend week-end want dan hopen we te verhuizen

Finally we have had some time to post an update, sorry for the delay and additional delay to translate in English
The last week of June was extremely busy, we had so many things to be arranged before we went to Belgium on vacation:issues with our bathroom light fixture, alarm system had to be installed (also not a smooth process as they had to return twice and still not working properly) and the list adds up .
Basically, we are exhausted each night!!
So we left to Belgium on Friday July 1st, and luckily we had an upgrade to fly business thanks to my miles and so we were able to sleep a little across the ocean.
Upon arrival we had to first confrontation with the temperature differences, around 62 F (15 C ) we had about 92 F ( 30 C ) ...
We immediately could start the fight with the jetlag as we were heading to a summer festival in Tielt with Stephanie a friend of Ine. Around 2 am we gave up and went to bed!
On Sunday we had a family lunch, 7 course lunch, very tasty and yummy and always fun to have the family together.
On Monday we had a nice sunny day (not hot but reasonable temperature) so we jumped on our bike for a 10 km bike ride towards Ann our ex colleague who was just homeand we hope she has fully recovered by now .
Our agenda was ridiculous fully booked, grocery shopping chocolat, cheese and other things we have difficulty finding in Atlanta, visit dentist , check up physician etc
And of course we enjoy food and drinks , enjoy a patio with mojito ( Ine) beer ( Bart ) with ex colleague, enjoy the first mussels from Zeeuws Flanders with my soccer friends, a nice lunch in Kortrijk with shrimp croquettes, dinner with sea view with Arthur and Yvonne, raw steak tartare with Geert and Els , and an unbelievable breakfast with Martine and Eddy.
This means we will have to start dieting upon our return...
Our 10 days went by in a flash and time for goodbye is never fun but luckily we have Skype and will be back end of this year.
We got back on July the 11th, need to get used to the hot temperatures as there is a heat wave in the country and we have high humidity levels on top of that!
We love A/C and next weekend we plan the first part of our move!
On Saturday I left for a short trip to Paris , the purpose was to leave on Saturday and return on Tuesday
Just before take-off , a thunderstorm came through Atlanta , and the airport was closed. As the storm was heading east ( and we were flying east as well , as I had my connecting flight in Boston) other planes could take off but we had to wait.
Lots of chaos, about 31 planes in front of us so by the time we could take off we lost about 2 hours.When arriving at Boston , we could start running for our connecting flight ( together with 9 other passengers) , from terminal A to terminal E. Apparently we could not run fast enough as the gate was closed right in front of us , so at 23 h we could walk back to terminal A to find a Delta rep. who could rebook us.
As my trip was so short anyway , I cancelled the whole trip and did fly back Sunday am with the 6 o clock flight , yes indeed 6 am in the morning !
Ine was very happy as we had loads of things to do for our new house. We assigned the work to a contractor onThursday PM, and to our surprise they could start working on Monday straight away , unfortunately we hadnt ordered anything yet as we were waiting for the quote .
The first problem started when Ine tried to call Best Buy on Thursday night to check on the status of the venthood ( this was ordered weeks ago) As the delivery was expected the week of the 20th and we were told someone was going to contact us the week before , Ine decided to check and discovered they had made a mistake and the order had been cancelled , next available ETA , July 4th !!
Ine went to Sears online and did find the same one for a 5 day delivery . so ordered this one straight away. Also that day , during her lunchbreak she jumped in her car to order bamboo floor and pebble tiles for the shower. Luckily we already knew what we wanted so we just had to order, pay and set aside for our contractor to pick up.
On Sunday we went to check out some dishwashers as the one in the house was still the original and needed some updating ! And since I have been a good boy , and yes , since we have a larger family room I can have another TV !!
With our recent experience we decide to go to HH Gregg, and guess what we did see there , the vent hood, 100 $ cheaper and immediately available ! So Ine tried to do the pricematch with Sears, did not work out , cancelled the order with them and ordered the vent hood for the 3rd time !! In the US it is very easy to order and cancel and re order if you can get a better deal , we love it !!
On Monday night we went to our house for a quick peak , and yes the bamboo was fully installed in walk in closet and the future gym room in the basement. The walk in closet will be installed by another company on Thursday so the prep work and painting had to be done before that.
We had to make a decision on the colors by Wednesday latest , and all plumbing , lighting , etc had to be in by Thursday!!
In the US , stores like the Home Depot are open till 22h , so we went shopping to get new LED spotlights ceiling fan, extension rod , vanity lighting , medicine cabinets , etc etc
Also placed some online orders for new faucet and shower head ..
We had a 10 % coupon from the competitor , which was matched straight away at the register !
In Europe, you would not get a discount if you show the coupon from a competitor , but in the US you can do this and again , we are learning really fast !!
Tonight we have to go back to HH Gregg to place our final order, which you will learn more from later and also some new pictures to be expected.
You would think with such a nice pool and sunshine we would be tanned, unfortunately we cannot find the time to tan , and it is too hot and humid anyhow ( and Ine prefers to stay away from dermatologist for a while !

Dit keer geen fotos van huisje maar wel onze dagelijkse sleur.
Op Zaterdag hadden we eindelijk eens regen, het werd zowat tijd. We hebben hier al een 14-tal dagen een hittegolf met abnormale hoge temperaturen van 35 graden en meer.Als ik s morgens aar kantoor rij is het om 7.30 reeds 23 tot 25 graden.Wat echt abnormaal is dat we geen zomer onweer hebben.Maar goed dat was zaterdag dan eindelijk opgelost: een flinke dondervlaag.
De ganse Zaterdag druk in de weer geweest met Skype, kuisen en eten klaar maken want we hebben mijn baas op bezoek.De avond vliegt voorbij en Ine haar kookkunsten waren opnieuw zeer lekker.
Zondag zetten we dan de zoektocht verder voor ons nieuw stulpje.Dit keer behangpapier.En jawel dit is Amerika dus keuze zat en eigenlijk belachelijk veel zodat je na een tijd niet meer weet wat je gezien hebt of je leuk vindt (wel duizend soorten behangpapier).
En ja we zijn ook nog een keer aan de slag gegaan met dozen inpakken, elk week-end doen we iets (tenminste als ik niet aan het globetrotten ben).

This time no pictures of our new home but daily life.
Finally some rain on Saturday.We have now 14 continuous days of 35+ degrees which is exceptional high for the time of year.When I drive to the office at 7.30 am it is already close to 25 degrees.What is even more exceptional is we have no rain or thunderstorms moving thru the area till Saturday night.
The whole Saturday we were busy with Skype, cooking and cleaning the house as my boss is invited for diner.We had a great evening and of course Ines food was again delicious.
On Sunday we did continue our hunt for all kind of stuff we need for our new home.This time we looked at wall paper.And yes this is America so not just a few choices but I guess a thousand variations of wall paper. After some time you do not know anymore what you have seen or what you like.
As I had no travel plans we used our time efficient and packed some boxes.

Zo ons eerste lang week-end is voorbij (eigenlijk tweede voor Ine want zij had al Goede Vrijdag vrijaf, voor mij is dit echt wel eerste).
Kwam net op tijd want was vorige week ganse week in Zuid Afrika en pas op Vrijdagnacht terug gevlogen, aldus hadden we Zaterdag wel even tijd nodig om te bekomen van de jetlag en de verschrikkelijke lange non-stop vlucht (17 uur en 5 minuten om precies te zijn).
Zaterdag hadden we ook onze buren uit ons vorig huurhuisje op bezoek en dat was echt wel al veel te lang geleden, dus lekker veel bijkletsen en genieten van crepes a la Ine.
Zondag vooral lui geweest en veel tv gekeken. Memorial week-end is ook wel speeding week-end genoemd want er is niet alleen de Indy500 maar ook Nascar 600 dus lekker veel crashes en suspens gezien.
Maandag zijn we dan voor het eerst dit jaar naar het zwembad getrokken.Gewacht tot na vijf uur want tijdens de dag is het echt wel te warm (op dit moment gaan we elke dag vlot naar 35 graden en ook s nachts koelt het maar niet af, de minima zitten rond de 20 graden).Eigenlijk zijn we nog niet echt ingeburgerd want wij zijn de enige die geen frigobox meehebben met drank, ijs en bier.Daar gaan we keer verandering in moeten brengen.
Ine heeft ondertussen ons nieuw huisproject volledig onder controle: walk in closet komt er, een nieuwe frigo en dampkap is al besteld (tja het waren weer maar eens sales) en nu wachten we nog enkel op bestek van de klusjesfirma voor schilderen en aantal veranderingen. Ook de eerste dozen zijn we al aan het inpakken, een echt déjà vu gevoel.

So we just finished our first long holiday week-end, first one for me but second for Ine (good Friday was her first one).
Back from a week South Africa, just in time to enjoy this Memorial week-end.However needed some time on Saturday to recover from jetlag and the long, very long non stop flight (17 hours and 5 minutes )
In the afternoon we have our old neighbors from Johns Creek on visit. This was long overdue and we had a great time.
Sunday we were pretty lazy and Memorial week-end is also called 'speeding week-end' so I did enjoy Indy500 and Nascar600: good fun with a lot of crashes.
Monday was our first trip to the local swimming pool.As it is really hot at the moment we decided to go after 5pm and the water was pleasant.We quickly did realize we are not true Americans yet as we did not have our cool box with us and so missed out on beer and other nice drinks.
Of course Ine keeps making good progress on our new home.The walk in closet is fully designed and ready to be installed towards end of June.Furthermore she did made a good deal on a fridge (Memorial Sales week-end) and last thing we just waiting on is the quotes from a company specialized in remodeling.
We also are starting to live in boxes again, yup we know that feeling ..
Jawel , nadat onze gasten terug naar Belgenland vertrokken waren kon ik beginnen om de verjaardag van Bart voor te bereiden, pakjes in gereedheid brengen ,champagne gaan halen en hapjes maken!
De 18de was een heerlijke avond, Bart en ik hebben beide van de champagne genoten , en hij was ook zeer blij met de cadeaus, ik had namelijk allemaal dingen gekocht om zijn mannenstekje in ons toekomstig huis in te richten. Een coca cola mini frigo, een neon clock met 'man cave' ( zo heten ze dat mannenstekje hier )en nog een paar decoratiebordjes!
Ondertussen beginnen we ons langzamerhand voor te bereiden op ons nieuwe stekje, de plannen voor een ingebouwde 'walk in closet' zijn al gemaakt , en nu zondag komt een aannemer kijken om een offerte te maken voor nog enkele dingen die we willen wijzigen in het huis !
We plannen na onze trip van Belgie beetje bij beetje in te pakken en deels zelf te verhuizen ! spannend !!!
En ondertussen is het superwarme weer terug , temperaturen van 30 graden en meer !
We willen bij deze ook nog onze vrienden en agenten The Katz bedanken voor al hun hulp en begeleiding met de aankoop van ons huis !

After our guests left our home heading towards Belgium, I could start preparing the surprises for Barts birthday, wrapping all the gifts, get some champagne and prepare some yummie appetizers!
On the 18th we had a gorgeous night , Bart and I both enjoyed the champagne, and I must say he absolutely adored his gifts, I had ordered all kinds of things to decorate his very own place in our future home! A mini coca cola fridge, a neon clock that says 'man cave' and a couple of bar signs !
And meanwhile we are getting ready to make some changes to our future home, and we already have a custom made walk in closet designed, and on Sunday we will visit the house with a contractor to get some quotes for some other items we want to replace !
After our trip from Belgium we will start packing and move bit by bit ourselves , exciting !!
And meanwhile summer is back in Atlanta, with temperatures around 90 F ( around and above 30 C !) !

5 Mei is hier cinco de Mayo feest. Alhoewel dit verwijst naar Mexico is deze feestdag vooral gekend in de USA (ons kantoor in Mexico city krijgt er zelfs geen verlof voor). Waarom al die heisa? Die dag in 1862 werden de Franse verslagen in de Mexicaanse staat Puebla. Het is niet eens de officiele onafhankelijksdag in Mexico maar wordt hier dus volop gevierd.
Samen met alle collega's gaan we over de middag eten. En wat dacht je Mexicaans natuurlijk. Het was er lekker druk en altijd wel leuk om even weg van het werk met je collega's te kletsen. Vooal na een shotje of twee kwamen de tongen wat los en leerden we heel wat bij...
Ine had na het werk 's avonds afgesproken met paar van haar collega's in Mexicaans restaurant om de hoek van haar werk. Blijkbaar was het volledig omgebouwd tot een party tent met DJ, korting voor shots enzomeer. Hoef je dus niet te vertellen dat zotte Ine zich vol heeft geamuseerd. (maar helaas is er hier geen fotobewijs van).
This day is known as cinco de Mayo and although this is a Mexican holiday it is mainly celebrated in the USA. On this day in 1862 the French were beaten by the local Mexicans in Puebla, however this day is not the independence day of Mexico.
So we went out for lunch with the entire office and guess what? We went to a Mexican restaurant. Good fun to chat with all outside the office, especially after a few shots... Ine did the same in the evening and she went to local mexican just around the corner from her work. It seems the restaurant was transformed with live DJ, dancing,... She had great fun although no proof of pictures was delivered to undersigned...
Een huisje kopen in de US is een beetje complexer dan in Belgie, maar we hadden eigenlijk niets anders verwacht. Vandaag was eigenlijk het eindpunt van een lang proces, ik zou zeggen zet je maar eens op je gemak, hier gaan we
Gebaseerd op onze mislukte ervaring van vorig jaar besluiten we om het proces om te draaien, eerst een goedkeuring voor hypotheek te krijgen en dan pas op huizenjacht gaan (ja we kennen die uitdrukking van die ezel en die steen).
Gelukkig hoefde onze hypotheekfile slechts een update te krijgen dus we waren hier vrij vlug mee klaar. Ondertussen hadden we al behoorlijk wat huisjes en wijken aan de buitenkant gaan bekijken. Voor ons was niet alleen huis belangrijk maar ook omgeving, zwembad, verkeer en ligging tov werk enzomeer. Eigenlijk wilde ik het liefst in onze huidige community blijven: rustig en toch dicht bij alles, terwijl Ine liever wat dichter bij Roswell wou gaan wonen.
Uiteindelijk ons droomhuis gekozen uit een shortlist die we bezocht hadden en hop de rollercoaster van papier was begonnen:
Eerst doe je een bod op het huis en dit moet je schriftelijk doen, ondertekend door zowel Ine als mezelf. Op het zelfde moment moet je bedrag storten op een geblokeerde rekening (3% van bod is een teken dat je ernstige koper bent). Dus rommel faxen en dan maar wachten tot de verkoper antwoordt: hij kan de deadline laten voorbij gaan zonder te antwoorden, hij kan bod aanvaarden en of tegenbod doen. Als hij tegenbod doet krijg je papier met tegenbod, getekend door beide verkopers (tenminste als ze getrouwd zijn). Het leuke is wel eens je een bod doet, je het huis tijdelijk van de markt haalt en de eigenaar kan geen ander bod aanvaarden, je bent dus bevoorrechte koper.
Wij dus tegenbod gehad die wij op onze beurt hebben aanvaard en dus opnieuw moeten ondertekenen. Dit ganse process van bod en tegenbod kan al vlug een weekje of twee in beslag nemen.
Eens het bod aanvaardt komen we in een 14 daagse periode waarin wij als kopers zomaar zonder reden uit de deal kunnen stoppen zonder kosten. De periode wordt in principe gebruikt om een appraisal en inspection te laten uitvoeren.
Een appraisal (schatting) zal de waarde van je huis bepalen op basis van vierkante meters, aantal slaapkamers, recent verkochte huizen in de buurt. Natuurlijk kwam de prijs iets lager uit dan de overeengekomen prijs, aldus wij terug naar de eigenaars met de mededeling dat we in huidige markt niet meer dan appraisal willen betalen. En zoals je al kan raden dat doe je op een stuk papier die je beiden moet tekenen en faxen. Eigenaars gaan akkoord dus paper terug met nog 2 krabbels op ..
Een inspectie is een expert die een grondige check van het huis doet en je adviseert wat er allemaal wel en niet moet vervangen worden, indien er geen ongedierte in je huis zit, of de waterleiding goed werkt, etc. Je krijgt een volledig overzicht met dingen die kunnen gerepareerd worden om het huis 100% in orde te krijgen. Je hebt dan de keuze om dit te negeren of dit aan de verkopers voor te leggen en wie ons kent weet wat we hiermee doen.Ja hoor wij terug naar de eigenaars om te eisen dat de zaken naar behoren zouden gerepareerd worden. Tuurlijk kan dit niet mondeling maar op papier ondertekend door Ine en mezelf en daarna voor akkoord terug door eigenaars
(hopelijk kunnen jullie nog volgen??).
Eens de reparaties uitgevoerd vonden wij het toch wel belangrijk om de expert nogmaals langs te laten gaan en te checken of alles wel correct was, niet dus. Wij dus terug naar de eigenaars op papier maar dat had je ondertussen wel al begrepen met de mededeling dat we niet tevreden waren met 2 items. Dus prijscorrectie die weer maar eens op papier door alle partijen ondertekend moest worden, moet er nog papier zijn!!
Gelukkig was de hypotheek een vlot process en was de aanvraag een papierwinkel van slechts 30-tal paginas die je online kon ondertekenen. Waar we eigenlijk het meest vrees voor hadden, goedkeuring van hypotheek, was eigenlijk nog het vlugst geregeld.
Tussendoor ook nog verzekering als eigenaar afgesloten die door een foutje in de berekening nog voor last minute stress zorgde (je kan nl geen hypotheek afsluiten als je geen verzekering hebt als eigenaar van het huis en dit bedrag moet correct zijn tot op de centiem want de verzekering wordt meegenomen in je hypotheek!).
En dus vandaag was het dan zover want we werden verwacht bij de notaries ter ondertekening van de overdracht van het huis.
Eerste obstakel was dat ik voorschot niet on-line kon overschrijven en dus last minute nog even naar de bank mocht om een certified check. De bankbediende was zeer verwonderd dat de notaris een check zou aanvaarden. Dus nog even vlug bellen naar notoriskantoor maar neen hoor geen probleem als het maar certified is, pfpfpfpf zouden we niet beter blijven huren. Veel eenvoudiger
Tweede obstakel was toen ik met grote zwier de eerste pagina tekende. Ah nee dat is geen legale handtekening. Hoe waarom niet, ik teken altijd zo? Neen neen je voornaam en achternaam moet duidelijk leesbaar zijn in je handtekening. Ja maar die heb ik niet. Ah dan moet je er hier terplaatse maar eentje uitvinden, ook al gebruik je die handtekening nooit meer. Tja ik keek even naar Ine en we vonden beiden ter plaatse een handtekening enkel voor verkoopakte uit.
Had wel medelijden met Ine want met zo een naam en zo veel papier die er moest getekend worden was ze wel even bezig.
We hebben bijna een vol uur niets dan handtekeningen gezet, geef mij maar verkoopakte in Belgie das zo klaar.
Maar niet gezeurd we kunnen nu melden dat we officieel eigenaar zijn van een huis (met golfzicht en Jacuzzi) in de USA, wie had dat durven dromen toen we aan ons avontuur begonnen??
Helaas hebben we nog geen fotos want de eigenaars kunnen pas midden juni verhuizen en dus hebben we huis meteen terug verhuurd, aldus het vroegste dat we fotos zullen kunnen posten zal rond die periode zijn. Wij hebben ons huidig huisje toch gehuurd tot eind Augustus dus kwam ons eigenlijk nog wel goed uit.
En zo word je dus eigenaar van een stulpje in de USA die we dan meteen gevierd hebben met een fles bubbels.

Last year we tried to purchase a house and unfortunately it did not work out but the lesson learned was get a mortgage pre approval first and then we can go house-hunting !
Luckily our mortgage file had to get a small update as most of the pre work had been done last year, so we could start visiting some properties. First we made a selection of homes of which we explored the neighborhood first. The house itself is important of course but also the area, community , pool, traffic and commute. I enjoy living in our current neighborhood but Ine wanted to move to another area .
Finally we found a home we both loved and the rollercoaster of paperwork was coming ahead of us !!
The first step is bringing an offer on the house, which you have to do on paper and has to be signed by both of us. At this moment you also have to provide a check ( typically 2 to 3 % of offer ) this is called earnest money and is placed on an escrow account . You can choose the amount but the higher the better as it is a signal of how serious you are towards buying this home.
The paperwork is faxed to the seller, and you can get a counter offer ( or not if they are offended with your first offer). Once you are in this process, the market is of the house and the owner cannot accept any other offers.
We received a counter offer which we accepted which means counter signing and scan and e-mail the paperwork. This process only can take about 2 weeks until agreement has been achieved.
Once you have an offer, there is a 14 day timeframe , where we as buyers need to have an appraisal and home inspection done. In this time window you can still get out of the process for any reason and get the earnest money back.
The appraisal will determine the value of the house based on sq footage, nr of bedrooms, recent sold homes in the area, the neighborhood etc. The appraisal came out lower than the agreed selling price and in this time window you can renegotiate which we have done and we came to another agreement . As you can guess , this is not done by phone but is a back and forward paper signing process until all signatures have been gathered.
We also had a home inspection done , and based on the report of the inspector we claimed a couple of items to be fixed by the current sellers ( which also had to be negotiated and signed on paper !!!) You can either ask for price reduction or ask for items to be fixed by seller, in our case the seller agreed to fix our items requested.
Afterwards we had a re-inspection done to ensure all items had been fixed and we had 1 more issue which we really wanted to get done, so we re-negotiated !! ( too much paperwork for us !)
Luckily the mortgage process went smooth and the application could be signed electronically. Our biggest fear, not getting a mortgage was soon over cause we received the approval pretty quickly !
Meanwhile we had to get a homeowners insurance cause you cannot get a mortgage without one, and they caused us last minute stress with wrong billing amount ( the amount has to be correct and paid exactly to the very last penny !
And today , believe it our not , we were expected in the lawyers office for the final closing !
The first bottleneck was we could not transfer our downpayment online and had to run to the bank to get a certified check. The employee at the bank was surprised a check would be accepted so we did a quick call to the lawyers to ensure this was ok (pfff)
The second problem was we had to invent a new signature as a signature has to contain both first and family name
We arrived on time on Tuesday afternoon and have been using our new signature for about an hour !
But after this whole process we can officially call us owners of our first place in the US ( with golf view and Jacuzzi !!)
We do not have pictures yet as the sellers can only move mid June, so we rented out our house for the next month and will try to place some pictures asap, so we will need to ask a little more patience !
We celebrated this with a bottle of champagne at night !!
Al een paar dagen werden we gewaarschuwd voor een zware storm op Woensdagavond, maar eigenlijk wordt er vooral tijdens de zomer met de regelmaat van de klok hiervoor gewaarschuwd. Rond een uur of acht kregen we de beelden te zien van onze buurstaat Alabama en was het meteen duidelijk dat dit niet zomaar een stormpje was en nog geen uur later gingen de sirenes af in Woodstock.
Dit is een teken dat alles aanwezig is voor een tornada aan de grond. Dus wij vluchten naar de basement. Je moet dus stukje in het midden van je huis vinden die geen vensters heeft. Wij komen al vlug tot de vaststelling dat we ons niet goed hebben voorbereid: geen radio, tv of zaklamp bij ons dus het is een beetje gokken hoe lang we daar moeten blijven zitten. Tijdens de volgende uren verhuizen we aantal keer naar de basement want om de haverklap ging de sirence af.... Ine viel gewoon in slaap in de basement! De rest van de nacht geen gevaar meer maar voor de zekerheid zijn we toch beneden gaan slapen in 1 van de gastenkamers waar we alvast beter beschermd lagen dan boven in master.
De volgende dag werd meteen duidelijk dat dit niet zomaar een storm was: in totaal meer dan 165 tornado's geteld en helaas ook meer dan 300 doden. De beelden zijn schokkend: moeder natuur kan echt wel dodelijk zijn.
Ondertussen zijn mijn ouders aangekomen en hebben we week-end gespendeerd aan jetlag recovery, partijtje tennis (zal maar niet zeggen wie gewonnen heeft) en uit eten. Morgen Maandag vertrekken ze richting New Orleans en San Antonio en wij kijken uit naar Dinsdag want dan tekenen we alle papieren voor ons nieuw huisje....
Already a few days we are receiving warning a heavy storm is on the way to Atlanta. But as during summer time soo many storm pass by, we do not pay a lot of attention to the warning. On Wedesday evening we see the first picures from Alabama en realize quickly this is not just a storm. At 9pm the sirenes go off in Woodstock a sign that all ingredients are there for a tornada. We rush to the basement (safe place in middle of the house, as low as possible and no windows) and quickly conclude we are ill prepared: no radio, no tv, no water, no nothing... During the next couple of hours the warning goes off multiple times so we shuttle between tv and the basement. Ine is soo tired she even falls asleep in the basement. The remainder of the night is quiet, however we decide to sleep down in the guestroom which is safer than upstairs in masters. Next day it becomes clear how deadly the storm was: 160 tornados in 24 hours and unfortunately more than 300 people lost their lives. Mother nature can be very brutal.
On Thursday my parents did arrive and we spent the week-end on recovery of jetlag (read: shopping), tennis and some good food. Tomorrow they leave for New Orleans and San Antonio and we do prepare ourselves for Tuesday when we will sign all documents for our new home.....
