Jawel een stukje uit liedje van Sting. Het concert was geweldig. Het leuke was dat het een openluchtconcert was met allemaal genummerde zitjes, dus als je kwartier voor aanvang aankwam was je nog ruim op tijd. Sting stond op het podium met het London Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Een ganse bus want het orkest was zowat 30 man sterk, dus onze Sting had af en toe wel moeite om boven de violen, fluiten en trommels te geraken. Maar op zich een schitterend concert en chapeau dat hij dit aandurft. Om middernacht stonden we terug thuis.

Indeed the title is from one of the songs of Sting. The concert was in Chastain Park. You could arrive late as all seats were reserved so that is easy. He was playing with the London Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra Orchestra. The Orchestra was about 30 people strong so once in a while he had difficulties to get his voice above all the power of an orchestra. Will try to upload some video we shot. We were home around midnight.
Hier zijn we weer! Eindelijk wat tijd om jullie up to date te brengen. We zijn dus veilig terug uit Mexico. Was meteen mijn eerste bezoek aan eerste kantoor, de rest zal nu in snel tempo volgen. Vorige week Zondagmiddag vertrokken en op Woensdagmorgen terug gevlogen. We moesten o.a. gaan kijken naar een nieuw magazijn die ze willen beginnen in Aquacalientes, zo een vijf uur rijden van Mexico City. Dus ruimschoots de mogelijkheid gehad om het echte Mexico te ontdekken, compleet anders dan een All inn resort! Maar alles reuze meegevallen en op de terugweg o.a. de bergen ingereden waar een volledige stad gebouwd is op een oude mijn. Alle auto's rijden onder de stad doorheen de mijnschachten, ongeloofelijk. Zal de foto's later nog wel eens posten Mexico City zelf is zeer druk maar butien kantoor hebben we helaas geen tijd gehad om de toerist uit te hangen.
Vrijdagavond hadden we dan de volgende Belgische gasten: Charlotte en Wouter. En zoals de traditie het wil stonden er croques op de menu en vooral veel bijkletsen. Terwijl beiden de toerist hebben uitgehangen op Zaterdag (CNN, Coca Cola) hebben wij dan maar naar het zwembad geweest en nog wat inkopen gedaan, o.a. een mobiele airco want het is echt nier meer uit te houden. Het wordt 's nachts niet 'frisser' dan 82 F. Het stuk is ondertussen binnen, nu nog een technieker vinden die even tijd heeft. Voor de rest was het voor ons vooral spannend omdat we een bod op een huis hadden uitgebracht die we deze week voor de tweede keer hadden gezien. Even na de middag kwam het verlossend bericht ons bod is aanvaard. D.w.z. dat we nu 14 dagen een optie op het huis hebben lopen en de tijd zullen we hard nodig hebben om de lening rond te krijgen en de inspectie uit te voeren. 's Avonds wordt dit al even traditioneel gevierd: met de gasten naar de Japanees en daarna nog lekker buiten gezeten tot 1 uur!
Dus lang slapen was het gevolg op Zondag. De Belgen gaan eerst naar het zwembad en daarna shoppen. 's Avonds staat er Stone Mountain Laser show op het programma voor de vakantiegangers, de werkende mensen blijven thuis.
En we hebben ook nog goed nieuws: vandaag is de aircoman geweest. Het is weer lekker fris in huis (sorry Charlotte en Wouter die net vertrokken zijn richting Mickey!). De rest van de avond gevuld met massa papierwerk die ingevuld moet worden voor de lening. Het lijkt al zo een papiermolen te worden als de green card!
Morgen gaan we naar concert van Sting, we zijn benieuwd!
Yes we are back from Mexico. We left last Sunday around midday and returned on Wednesday. It was the first in a row of 6 offices I need to visit over the upcoming months. As we had to look for a new warehouse in aquacalientes, about 5 hours drive from Mexico City, we had plenty of time to enjoy and discover local Mexico. Must say complete different than an All inn resort. On the way back we did stop for lunch in a small mountain village. It is build on top of an old mine and all the underground galleries are used as roads! Incredible, will post the pictures later. Mexico City is very crowded but due to lack of time did not have time to do some sightseeing.
On Friday our next Belgian guest did arrive: Charlotte and Wouter. Totally in line with our tradition we had croques for diner and not enough time to update each other and chat away. Saturday our guests went to Atlanta for Coca Cola and CNN. In the meantime we went for a swim and some shopping, including an airco as our airco is still not fixed. The replacement pieces did arrive but seems the company is very busy and will take till Monday or uesday (not a surprise with such a hot weather!). We also made a bid on a house we have seen Wednesday for the second time. And yes our bid is accepted. This mean we have now 14 days to get the loan going and do the inspection. Hopefully by the end of the month we can proudly anounce we have our own home in the US. In the evening we went to the Japanese and spent the rest of the evening outside.
As we chatted till 1 am, we had a good night of sleep and after watching England - Germany our guests went to the swimming pool and did the mandatory shopping afterwards. The tourists went in the evening to the laser show at Stone Mountain while the working class went to bed early!
Oh yes yes, the airco is fixed. They came today to repair and install the new engine. We will have a great sleep tonight. The rest of the evening was spending with finding all document requested for our mortgage. Tomorrow we go to concert of Sting!
De zomer is hier alleszins begonnen , het is wel wat warmer dan gewoonte , we zitten met dagtemperaturen rond de 36-37 graden , en snachts koelt het amper af ( rond de 24 graden).
De airco op de bovenverdieping heeft het begeven, als gevolg proberen we bij 30 graden in slaap te geraken ( moeizaam ) gelukkig hebben we een ventilator aan het plafond en daarmee moeten we het voorlopig stellen, met een zuchtje wind ...
Het stuk zou besteld zijn maar zou zeker 3 tot 5 dagen duren , dusdenk dat we deze week nog zullen moeten overleven.
Bart zit momenteel in Mexico voor het werk en daar is het frisser, hij zal wellicht een paar nachten beter geslapen hebben dan ik , en Mieuwtje neemt in bed zijn plaats in en drumt de ganse nacht met haar warme bontjas tegen me aan , nog warmer !!
Vorige week iets typisch Amerikaans meegemaakt op het werk , een carnival als appreciatie voor de huurders van de grote gebouwen waar ook mijn bedrijf tewerkgesteld is. Dat was dus op het binnenplein , met gratis spelletjes, en gratis 'funnel cake' soort gefritureerde deeg die door een trechter geduwd is , ice cones ( shaved, 'geschoren' ijs mt een smaakje erop) , suikerspin, popcorn etc.
Ik heb een pluchen schaap gewonnen met het spelletje 'The fat cat", waar je met 4 ballen 3 katten moest omvergooien om een pluchen beest te winnen. Bij 'The Crazy Hat ' ( de gekke hoed) moest je zakjes met rijst gevuld in de hoed mikken , daar heb ik pluchen voetballetjes gewonnen. Mijn schaap is op het werk en noemt Mr Sheep , iedereen is er gek op !!
Verder ook nog geshopt , nieuwe potjes voor onze poezen, en ook hebben we cadeautje van Arthur en Yvonne een plaatsje gegeven in huis , Nederland is bijgevolg ook in onze gedachten !
De huizenjacht gaat verder, nog niks concreet , maar we houden jullie wel op de hoogte , prachtig huis gezien , maar prijs leek iets te laag , na verder onderzoek blijkt die straat af en toe onder water te staan, vandaar !!
Vannacht ons laatste nachtje zonder Bart , poezen vinden het leuk want die krijgen alle aandacht , maar ik zal blij zijn dat mijn ventje thuis is !!

You could say summer has arrived in Atlanta , and currently hotter than usual day temperatures, averages of about 97 F ( 36-37 C ) and it does not cool down a lot at night temperature drops till about 75 F ( 24 C)
The perfect timing of course for the airco to break down , the unit that controls our 2nd floor broke down, trying to sleep whil it is 90 F ( about 30 C ) is not really easy ! The piece that needs to be replaced has been ordered , but as it will take up to 5 days I am sure we will be spending another week in the heat !! We have to survive with a tiny breeze from the fan in our room.
Bart is currently in Mexico for business travel , as it is cooler there and airco does work in the hotels he will have slept a lot better than I have! Mieuwtje ( one of our kitties) replaced Bart and sleeps next to me, only she wants to sleep so close that I have to take the extra heat of her fur coat on top of that !!
Last week I had the honor to participate at something typical American , a carnival as tenants appreciation , which is a carnival for all people working in the buildings where the company I work for has 2 floors as well. Lots of free games, and free food, funnel cake, snow cones ( shaved ice with flavor of your choice ) soft candy , popcorn , etc !
I did win a stuffed animal by playing the game the fat cat basically you have 4 balls and you need to hit at least 3 cats down, I did choose a sheep , and he is at work and is called Mr Sheep, everyone adores Mr Sheep. At the game the crazy hat I did win 2 footballs, this is a game where youneed to try to throw bags filled with rice into the hat.
I also did some shopping and both some new food bowls for our kitties and a new jar, we also did give the cups from Holland we received from Arthur and Yvonne who visited us 2 weeks ago a nice place in our home, now The Netherlands is also on our minds.
We are still house hunting but have not bought any property so far , we did see a lot of which is a good thing as you get an idea what to expect, but also confusing. We did fall in love with a great home, which we thought was severely underpriced, after further investigation it seemed the street is flooded on regular base , and as we do not have a boat that house was no option. Anyway we will keep you updated!!
This is my last night without Bart , the cats our happy cause full attention goes to them , but I will be happy to have my sweet hubbie back tomorrow !!
Gezien er een onweertje uitbarst en dus niet mogen gaan zwemmen, zullen we de tijd maar gebruiken om afgelopen week eens te overlopen. Werkweek was zo voorbij: ik begin me al goed thuis te voelen en aan mijn files te zien ook al een beetje ingewerkt. Ine mocht deze week naar Chattanoga waar er een fabriek en magazijn staat. Was blijkbaar zeer interessant.
Het week-end stond vooral in het teken van de verkiezingen in Belgie. Wij hadden geen zin om speciaal op Vrijdag naar downtown te rijden en bij het consulaat te stemmen. Dus kozen we voor de oudbollige postduif! De brieven zaten vrij laat in de bus (pas op 5 juni!) en op de koop toe had ik BHV brief gekregen ipv gevraagde Brugge (een buitenlander mag nl zelf zijn kiesdistrict kiezen). Het rode potlood zat er wel in. Benieuwd of de gekleurde brieven op tijd in Belgie zijn geraakt (vrees er voor dat de postduif zo vlug terug in Belgie zal zijn...). Wat ik wel ongeloofelijk vond is dat zelfs verkiezingsdrukwerk tot hier is gesukkeld, jawel de Open VLD is erin geslaagd om Johns Creek te vinden. De zondag tijdens het ontbijt konden we meteen de verkiezingsshow meepikken, net alsof we in Brugge in de sofa zouden zitten. Gewoon even livestream van VRT oproepen en PC verbinden met de flatscreen en voila Ivan de Vadder kan van start gaan... Toch echt wel een kleine wereld.
De rest van het week-end wat gezwommen (ook Zaterdag er al uitgevlogen wegens donder en bliksem) maar ook langzaam maar zeker aan de volgende stap van ons avontuur beginnen denken. Ons huurkontrakt loopt af per eind September dus we moeten gaan beslissen of we gaan verhuizen naar een huurhuis dichter bij Ine haar werk of we hier blijven (en dus Ine met de kippen moet blijven opstaan) of als we gaan kopen. Dus veel huiswerk over leningen en ook al wat huisjes gaan bekijken van veel te grote over niet mooi tot dat zou het kunnen zijn. We houden jullie wel op de hoogte maar we zijn er zeker nog niet uit...
KNALBOEM, ga er maar mee stoppen want het valt weer met bakken uit de lucht maar ja wat wil je toen ik deze morgen naar het werk vertrok om 7uur 15 was het al bijna 28 graden en toen ik naar huis reed rond zessen was het maar liefst 43 graden. Knalboem en leve de airco!

The workweek went very well and I am starting to get into the job as you can see on the number of files on my desk. Ine went to Chattanooga where they have a plant and a warehouse. She was impressed.
Most of the week-end went to the Belgian elections. Yes although we live in the US we still have a duty to vote, not a right. As we did not want to go to downtown on Friday to vote in the Belgian embassy we went for the good old mail. So we recieved all paperwork on 5th of june, including a red pencil! All had to be back within a week, not sure if the good old mail did make it (in fact I doubt it). What did made it to our US home was election publicity. Yes unbelievable but one party did manage to mail us some information.... On Sunday we did follow the result which was pretty easy: live stream the official Belgian tv channel, connect the PC to the flat screen and yes it was just like we were watching from our old Belgian coach!
Also we are starting our next step in our story as our rental home is up for renewal by end of September. So the question is do we stay here (and Ine will get up and to bed with the chickens for another 6 months) or we rent something closer to her work or do we buy a home. So a lot of work to get all info on loans and also we did start to see some homes: some who were far too big for a family of 2 and 2 cats, some not so nice and some very nice. For sure you will read more about it in the future.
Eindelijk tijd gemaakt om onze blog wat up-to-date te brengen. We houden het even bij het afgelopen week-end met Arthur en Yvonne, de rest zal voor wat later zijn.
Vrijdagavond was dus het moment van aankomst. De Koutstaaltjes vlogen via Parijs naar Atlanta en ondanks een on-time vertrek kwamen ze tgv een lokale storm toch met bijna een uur vertraging aan. Aldus stonden ze pas ron 23.30 voor de deur. Maar toch nog tijd voor de ondertussen traditionele en ook legendarische Ine Croques en ondertussen nog wat bijkletsen. Rond 1 uur gaan we slapen.
Zaterdagmorgen beginnen we met ontbijt en nog wat verder bijkletsen. Arthur is nl oud collega van me en dus willen we helemaal gebriefd worden over de laatste ontwikkelingen in Zeebrugge. Arthur en Yvonne gaan na het ontbijt richting Atlanta voor de al even traditionele bezienswaardigheden zoals CNN en Coca-Cola. Ine en ik profiteren ervan om ondertussen naar de fitness te gaan en lekker wat te genieten van het openluchtzwembad, heerlijk weer! Rond vier uur staan onze gasten terug voor de deur en ze hebben een verrassing mee! Een joekel van een taart en het heeft gesmaakt. Samen met onze gasten (en krabbie, hun wereldberoemde 'balkrab' die overal meegaat) gaan we naar de community pool (zwembad) voor nog een frisse duik en krabbie wat door de lucht te zwieren. De dag wordt afgerond met een traktatie van onze gasten bij de Japanner. Nou ja de kok zag er redelijk 'bruin' uit om een Japanees te zijn, hij bleek dus van Bangladesh te komen. Moet kunnen. Koffie dronken we nog lekker buiten bij ons op terras en rond 23.30 ging bij iedereen het licht uit
Wij besluiten om Zondag terug te trakteren en dus typisch Amerikaans ontbijt. We gaan dit keer terug naar de 'caravan' die we vorig jaar in September ontdekt hebben toen we voor de tweede keer naar Atlanta kwamen. Het was weer lekker en veel te veel. Afscheid genomen van Arthur en Yvonne die vertrokken richting Charleston. Wij gingen op boodschappen en daarna nog even inkopen doen in de mall. De avond brachten we rustig door met game 1 van NBA finals tussen LA en Boston. Maar ook niet te laat gaan slapen want morgen is het werkeweek!

As mentioned in previous blog, we expected on Friday evening some friends from the Netherlands. Although they had an on time departure of their connecting flight in Paris, they arrived about an hour late due to some local thunder. So Arthur and Yvonne did not arrive till 23.30 pm but Ine made sure that her famous croques were ready. By 1 am we all went to bed.
We did start the Saturday where we finished last night: chatting and getting fully informed about all what happened lately in Zeebrugge (Arthur was a colleague of my). After breakfast our guests did decide to go to Downtown and visited CNN and Coca-Cola. In the meantime Ine and I did go to the outside pool at the fitness. Around 4 pm our guest were back and had a little present for us: a real pie. It tasted really well. Next stop was the community pool for a late swim. Last stop was our Japanese restaurant just around the corner. The cook did not look very Japanese, in fact he was from Bangladesh! We finished the day with a coffee in our garden. By 11pm all lights went out.
On Sunday morning we had typical American breakfast and this time we decided to go back to our typical place when we were in Atlanta during September of last year (what a difficult sentence). The food was great but it was also time for Arthur and Yvonne to hit the road, next stop Charleston. Ine and I went on to do our weekly groceries, some shopping in the Mall and in the evening we did watch the first game of the NBA finals between Lakers and Celtics. Of course we did go to bed early as Monday was the start of a new work week.
Zo de eerste werkweek zit erop (voor Ine de eerste na ons verlof, voor mij de eerste in de US).
En ja we zijn blij dat het week-end is. Het is toch wennen om na de 'sabbatical' opnieuw vroeg te moeten opstaan en de ganse dag bezig te zijn met je hersenen. Ine heeft dus vanaf nu gezelschap als ze 's morgens in de badkamer staat. Het is natuurlijk wennen. Het bedrijf is een stuk kleiner dan wat we gewend waren, ons kantoor in Atlanta bijvoorbeeld telt slechts 7 mensen en is trouwens op dit ogenblik het drukst bemand van alle 6 kantoren die de eigenaar van het bedrijf heeft (ook nog een kantoor in Australie, Mexico, Zuid-Afrika, Ghana en Namibia). Daarnaast is het een compleet nieuwe industrie voor mij (het bedrijf is toe- leverancier voor de mijnindustrie) dus bij alles wat verteld wordt heb ik veel vragen. Maar goed we zijn de eerste week doorgesparteld en eens we ingewerkt zijn zullen we wel onze handen vol hebben om alle kantoren en projekten die op stapel staan te managen.
Ondertussen is ons huisje spik en span want straks hebben we gasten. Arthur en Yvonne komen vanavond rond 8 uur aan op Atlanta luchthaven en blijven het ganse week-end bij ons. Lekker veel bijkletsen, het week-end zal zeker zo voorbij vliegen. Verslag en foto's volgen.
End of the first working week, that is the first after the holidays for Ine and the first in the US for me.
Of course we are happy it is week-end. I am not used anymore to get up that early and use my brains the entire day. So from now on in the morning Ine is not alone anymore in the bathroom. We are slowly getting used to the new job. First of all the company is much smaller than what I am used to. The office in Atlanta is 7 people and is the biggest one of all global offices (company has also offices in Australia, Mexico, South Africa, Ghana and Namibia). Secondly this is a total new industry (sourcing products for the mining industry) and has nothing to do with logistics (my background). So each time an e-mail arrived or a report I have more questions than answers. But have the feeling that I will enjoy the job once I understand the product and the market.
In the meantime we have cleaned the house top down as we have guests arriving tonight. Arthur and Yvonne are landing in Atlanta around 8pm and stay the entire week-end. Will be fun and for sure we will have so much to talk about that the week-end will be gone in now time!
