It means you should not be the boy that plays Frisbee with himself; throwing it one way and running to fetch it so he can throw it in the opposite direction once again.
It means you must interact with your public. Yes, all the beautiful people!
It means setting goals and not trying to make the fast break to quick riches. Yes, they are out there but the reality is if you are just starting out in web marketing, you will not stumble on those tricks to make quick cash. As a matter of fact, you will wind up contributing to someone else’s success and monetary gain while throwing your money away. When you think you can get rich quick and convince yourself of that, someone is going to come right along to fetch your money while adding little or no value to your online marketing knowledge. It does not have to be this way...
I am going to change this for you, seriously. Most online marketers have an agenda; get your money now so they can get more of your money later. That is essentially the basic principle of online marketing. It's a little sad too because out there are very talented marketers taking advantage of newcomers simply to shove them down the marketing funnel.
The marketing funnel can be good but, if you are looking for fast cash, you are among the aforementioned and will get eaten alive by that prospect alone. They will prey on you! If you try to prey on their customers they will distract you and redirect your money to useless ad campaigns. This would happen indirectly but these marketers know you are out there and with years of experience under their belts, they will only need to simply tweak their campaigns one way to throw off your game entirely. You won’t even know how they did it. They understand the nuances of online marketing. You don't yet. Yet... you will!
That was not to discourage you. That was to open your eyes and save you money. That was to alert you to the fact that you will get excited and set up your ad campaigns with Google and all the others you choose to advertise with too quickly.
You have to do "The Knowledge".
If you have ever been to London you have seen the Black Cabs. Those Black Cabs just seem like regular cab drivers right? Wrong. Regular cab drivers have a license and can drive but they don't know the streets of London. With centuries of design to accommodate horse buggies and no grid system to speak of, some fresh driver will get lost regularly, and they do. In London, they have the Black Cabs and then as they are referred, the minicabs.
Why do the Black London Cabs know the streets? They do what they call "The Knowledge" as I mentioned above. Three and a half to four years of training on London streets before they may even drive a Black Cab. Even after 3 years of education they take to the streets on scooters to start out.
Do you see?
You need to see everything around you and keep the costs down at first. Just like when the Black Cab drivers do "The Knowledge" and start on scooters. They see the ground and everything around them 360 degrees. I am sure they are overwhelmed at first as well as you are with making money online. It's a bit scary isn't it? Well, stop that... You will be fine!
The scooters are more efficient so when you get lost and make mistakes the monetary impact is negligible. You are going to start online marketing with your proverbial scooter!
You will be fine as long as you take cognizant steps toward your goals everyday. And don't throw money at Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other search engines until you know what you are doing.
Also, don't buy any pre-made websites. I will tell you what to do if you want to pay for a supposedly “Free” website. Send me $200 and then go to WordPress for your free website. I am kidding of course, but that is what you are doing if you get a "Free" website. It's not free. They will overcharge you for very poor hosting services and a domain that is over double what Go Daddy charges. It's a total waste of time and your money. In a nutshell, if you do host your own website, meaning you buy a domain and then have it launched on a hosting service, it will cost you about $70 give or take a few bucks here and there. And you will have a better understanding of how it works. I promise, it is not hard and don't worry about that yet. Just learn and live and get up everyday to learn something new about online marketing.
If you are strapped for cash, don't expect instant success. You will have a negative impact on your cash flow and it will take the positivity away from your approach. Take mini steps. I am writing this for you to know you can stop buying a new book every week on how to make money online. I will give you all you need to know to get started. After that, keep your product creation and niche in the back of your mind while you learn how to make money online.
I don't want you to loose money! I did not like it when it happened to me. It's a bad feeling knowing you made a mistake and could have done better if you just let yourself adjust and acclimate to all the information you are taking in during a short period of time.
There are things you can do while you study my book that won’t cost you anything and will get your confidence level up. 31 Flavors ▫ The Top Free & Easy Blog Directories to Submit Your Blog
If you have your blog up and current with fresh content and are looking for more free ways to market your blog or website, this is your next step. All this stuff is very labor intensive at first so I am making this list for you to easily click down one-by-one and register your blog. The best thing about using my list is I actually went through and verified them personally to make sure they are indeed “free” and easy. I scoured many listing services and tried many more that were frustrating and/ or charge a fee. Some of the fees are worthwhile and not very high but for all intents and purposes of my book, we want it to be free if we can get it. “Easy” is important too since you’ll want to just crack this list out in one or two settings. We can’t waste time on this stuff unnecessarily when we are trying to run a business but, it is very important nonetheless to get it done. Blogs are the cornerstone of web traffic in that they encompass a huge amount of data that is categorized and distributed on the web.
Once it’s out there it’s out there so, make it good and keep it rolling current. Try to keep your blog fresh and highlight your book or any service you may be providing in each blog post. Make it interesting too. If you have a cycle shop, put video of your guys working on bikes in your blog. If you have an online weight loss plan, show pictures of before and after. That is purely basic stuff but you get the point. Make it spicy! Make it look good but don’t get crazy. Stay within your ability and budget.
Now of course you have my list below and you should get started on that immediately after you have a blog running strong. Some blog directories approve right away and some take about 24 hours. Some take months to list your blog. Some ask for a reciprocal link and some don’t even give you the choice or offer it. You just want to feel it out at first with my list and then you will understand how it works. It’s quite simple after you do a couple in a row and keep your notes on hand making revisions to improve your next submission. Don’t be hard on yourself, just do it and make some mistakes and improve along the way.
What Will You Be Asked For?
Ok so now you are about to submit your blog to the blog directories I painstakingly reviewed for your easy and free submission. What you will input:
Title
Title is self-explanatory, just type in the name of your blog or website. Not your website address.
URL
This where you enter your website address. Most likely you will be submitting your blog so give it that address. For example, like my blog: http://www.onlinemarketingknowledge.com/blog/ or use the domain you were assigned with WordPress if you decide to go that route and not buy your own domain yet. All in good time so just do what you think you can do and take it step-by-step.
Description
This is the description of your website where you usually have about 250 to 500 words to describe your site. Make it keyword rich and snappy. If you are not clear yet on the keywords go back to the Perry Marshall AdWord cheat sheet. In reality you want to keep your keyword list below twelve keywords after you research the best ones for your business. When you submit your blog you will be limited to about six so you should have them listed in priority when you submit.
METAKeywords
This is where you type in your keywords and they usually ask that they be separated by commas.
METADescription
This is like your description again but you really want it to be packed full with keywords. Blow it out with relevant keywords.
Name
Name or your pen name if you have one.
Email
Need to give them your email of course.
Category
Usually you get one category and one sub-category. Very important you target the right category or a category where you think the readers will be receptive to your service or book. Get creative but not too crazy where you have grandmas reading Maxim ads or something silly like that.
RSS URL
Go to your blog page and click the RSS link. Take the website location and copy it over to this area of the blog submission form. It will look similar to Online Marketing Knowledge’s RSS feed: http://onlinemarketingknowledge.com/blog/?feed=rss2
Reciprocal Links
Reciprocal links are links you take from the blog directory and post to your blogs blogroll link areas. If you are now using a web editor you can make a links page with some content on it to keep the page fresh and not appear automated in any way.
Then You Take a Link from Them
If you decided to do the reciprocal link with the blog directory you will need to post their link to your link page or in the blogroll links of your blog page. You just copy and paste the code they have for you in the box below where it says ‘Text Link’ or ‘Button Link’. One will just be the name of the directory linking to the site and the other is a graphic button linking to the same site. It’s up to you, makes little difference.

I pulled my Twitter page down because I had too many followers. It got out of control fast. This is very easy to do but takes a little time to set up at first. I will give you quick pointers on what to do but, this will be short and sweet so as to avoid any confusion and not to make it seem more difficult than it is.
Keep in mind as you become more familiar with the routine that you can use other services as well. These just happen to be the best and easiest ways to accomplish the goal of automating your Twitter account to make money and gain friends. No work is required after you initially set it up. Its very good stuff and it’s totally free so take advantage!
3.After you have a Gmail account, type in the Google search box ‘Google Alerts’ and then go to Google Alerts and login again or stay logged in to Gmail. The login is the same if you are not logged in to Gmail already. Actually, all of your Google tools will be in that Gmail account so you can login with your Gmail address from now on.
4.Set up your Google Alerts; go to www.google.com/alerts. Just look around and you will see where they prompt you to ‘Click to Manage Your Alerts’. Go straight there and create a new alert from there. I say that because you want to make a feed and they don’t prompt you to make a feed on the first page so you have to go back and change it to feed anyway. Might as well chop that step off and go straight to the ‘Manage Alerts Page’ at www.google.com/alerts/manage. You want to do a ‘New Alert’ and you will see the button on the page. First thing is to enter the text for what news alerts you want to see. You want to select ‘Comprehensive’ at first to get the hang of it and select ‘Feed’ instead of ‘Email’. Then click the ‘Create Alert’ button. You can do as many as you like. Just do three for this exercise and move on. Check it out and see what comes up after a day and tweak it for what you really want. You will know how to proceed after you do this entire automation procedure.
5.Now go to Social Oomph . It’s a simple free service that will help you with Twitter and get more followers. Give it some time and come back to it later if you want to see what the results were. You can always follow and unfollow so for now, crank it up to get as many followers in a short time .
6.Ok now, this step seems a little strange but it really isn’t once you see how Twitter works. Everything has to be smaller and shorter with Twitter. Each message is limited to 160 characters like a mobile device would be. You will need to make any links you post with your Google Alerts feeds shorter. Also, if you are posting your website address and it is longer than 20 characters you will need to shorten that as well. So to do this; go to www.bit.ly and make an account with them. After you register get your API #. This is like a password so keep it safe. Copy this API code to Word or Notepad on your computer and remember your login name for www.bit.ly; you will need this in the last step. Also, don’t worry about your website address being shortened, they only set up another shorter address that directs to your existing website; nothing invasive.
7.Goto SocialOomph to set up your auto message response. It’s super easy to do this and you can actually manage more than one Twitter account from here. So go ahead and register as it tells you to at the top right. Once registered, go to ‘Manage My Scheduled Tweets and Twitter Account Automation’. See the menu where it says ‘Add Account’ and click there. You will probably be prompted to do this at first anyway so, just keep that in mind next time you login. Ok, simple stuff here; first thing to do is choose ‘Twitter’ by the little fill circles. Then you will be at the ‘Add New Twitter Account’ page. Down the list one, two, three: check the ‘Auto Welcome’ box; type in a greeting; check ‘Auto Follow’; and lastly check ‘Auto Unfollow’. The rest of the boxes you can leave alone. Now hit ‘Save’ and you’re all done with that.
8.This last step takes the longest time but it is very important. The very reason we did four steps already was to lead us to this point. That said, don’t skip any steps. So now you login to www.TwitterFeed.com. For this you will login with the OpenID link and use your Gmail login. Now just bare in mind that Twitter Feed works great but you may experience some delays or trouble logging in at first. What I discovered is that Internet Explorer works very poorly with Twitter Feed. I used Safari instead and was overly pleased in comparison to when I used Internet Explorer. So I suggest getting a free download of Safari from www.Apple.com. So we log in to Twitter Feed with our Gmail login and then we will have to use our Twitter login as well. This is like Twollo and Tweet Later in that it will connect with your Twitter account to update it. OK now that you are logged in, go to “Create New Feed’ and click it. Click the button in step one where it says ‘Connect your Feed to your Twitter Account’ and login with your Twitter login. Ok you are at the same screen as before but you are able to enter text where it says ‘Feed’; name the Feed there. Now this is where it all comes together. Go back to your Google Alerts at www.google.com/alerts/manage and click the ‘Feed’ link under the ‘Deliver to’ column next to the feed of your choice. Don’t worry if the code scares you; it’s no big deal. Go down your code to find ‘<title>Google Alerts’and see your RSS feed title as you named it. Directly below that is the feed link which will look like this:
9.Now we go back to www.TwitterFeed.com and enter that code in the ‘RSS Feed URL’ box. Click the ‘Test RSS Feed’ button to the left and make sure it works. Then click ‘Create Feed’ to save it. Now you are at the list for all the feeds. Go to each feed and click the ‘Edit’ button. Read the ‘Update Frequency’ and ‘Post Content’ options and decide what’s best for you. I recommend checking every 30 minutes and up to 5 updates at a time. Gets the motor revving a little. Most importantly; enter your API license number and login from www.bit.ly. Check the ‘Post Link’ box and at the bottom where it has ‘Post Prefix’ and ‘Post Suffix’ enter your shortened domain link. Remember, this can be your own website address or an affiliate link, either one.
That is how to get free advertising withTwitter! It’s really great and you should take advantage of this immediately to gain as big a following as soon as possible. The sooner you start this, the more followers you will have, thus increasing the likelihood of making a sale.
It would be great for you to make some sales without spending any cash. It’s being done everyday by regular folks around the globe so you should too. Stick with this procedure and you will do very well with yourTwitter accounts.

1.You need a website address; a domain name as it
referred. There are far too many new guys out there with good deals but you can get burned by them. I learned the
hard way. Using Go Daddy is the best deal and best overall service. They
are right on the cutting edge for new ways to market your product, including Twitter. They have a service you can
use directly from your Go Daddy account to set up your Twitter account. Remember,
Twitter is free, so its free advertising for your domain. Now also, just so you know, all you have to do to get a
Go Daddy account is buy one domain name. Any name you
want, and remember to use your keywords in the domain name. Always think about SEO and in the case of the domain,
you want relevant keywords in your domain name, Google likes that.
2.To
actually have the domain you bought published and public, you need a hosting account. Ok now, you can go with
Go Daddy for your hosting service with your domain name
and it is a very good way to go. If you want to get the very best deal and a very easy service with no hidden
charges, FatCow is very good. I use both Go
Daddy and FatCow, so I really love them both. You can buy your
domain from FatCow as well as use FatCow hosting service. I would not mislead you here; they
both have excellent services so just go with either one of these guys. Also, use their tutorials and go through the
service offerings. They both have website creation tools for beginners where you just fill in your information.
Remember however, WordPress has free blogs you can host right to your
domain name. Also, dont be afraid of this and think its too hard. These hosting services are always improving and
making it easier to have a website of your own so, just go through their set up instructions and watch any videos
they have. Its quite easy and they both have an actual telephone number to call for customer service. Every time I
called either one, it was a very good experience. If you dont know, ask them anything you need. They want to
answer your questions and be a good service to you, so you are successful. This way you will set up more websites
in the future, so wear them out with questions! They want your business and you need answers so, just pick up the
phone and ask.
3.Word
Press blogs or any blogs are very important for your SEO. I like WordPress a lot for many reasons but the big reason is
because they are cutting edge and are always keeping it updated. Even if you have a website built with your hosting
service provider you should have a link to your blog on the front page. Remember to look at Guidelines to Set
up Your Website Properly . Remember to be on top of your keywords.
4.I
already mentioned this but it is important to be a keyword wiz. You can easily achieve this wizardry status by
referring to the free AdWords Tips. You can buy some of those systems too but, I
am only saying to use his free advice and the AdWords
cheat sheet. The information Perry Marshall gives away is phenomenal and if you
decide to buy any of his books you will not be wasting your money. He is a very good guy so take advantage of
his generosity.
5.If you
are ready to kick it up 10 notches and utilize a free service for 30 days that will knock your socks off, go to
Traffic Geyser. He has a free service like I mentioned
before for 30 days and if you like it you pay a small monthly fee after the first month. You can cancel also so
dont worry, it wont cost you anything if you dont want it. Its actually a very small fee in relation to what
you get. Your Search Engine Optimization will be top notch when you use Traffic
Geyser. Before you use the service however, make sure you have everything ready to go as I have been
teaching you and go through the Traffic Geyser Free Tutorials, so you can take advantage
of that free 30 days. Refer to my Making Your SEO Easier, Quick list to Video, Social Bookmarks and Podcast
Sites.
Remember to keep focused with all your online endeavors. Dont lose heart. If you feel downtrodden, take a break. If you
feel unhappy, watch a show or take a run to pick up the endorphins a bit. You have what it takes to be what you
want to be. People are on your side even if you dont know them personally. Good businesses will be rewarded in
the long run and always remember that anything worthwhile takes a good deal of effort.

Quick List to Loads of Video Sites, Social Book Mark and Podcast Websites…
This is basically the master list to get your video out and send word to the social bookmark sites as well. If you get into Podcasts, this is very good list to work with. Look over each site to get familiarized at first and decide if it’s right for you. Some sites are more jovial and others are more business oriented. They will all help your business. Just narrow it down to make it easy on yourself at first.
If you are looking to take some work out of this and want to just make the video and have a service send them out for you to many different sites at once, I recommend Traffic Geyser. I believe you can still get the first month free to check it out and if you don’t think you want it after then, cancel it. The last time I checked, the fees were pretty reasonable for all the things they can do for you. At the very least, I would just go through the trial period to learn all you can. It’s great when someone formats it to make it easy to decide what your next step should be. Traffic Geyser will hold you by the hand and really step up your SEO in short order. You can do it all yourself too with what you learn in this book but it will be more of a manual effort and you may miss things at first. That’s ok though; you can make mistakes and decide what to do when you are ready. All in good time…
This is the master list of all the sites that are showing video. You will need to register for each one so make sure you take a look at what they offer and that it is the right fit for your ad or viral video. Some video websites are great for ads and some better for fun or viral videos. You want to explore both to understand where you will generate viewers from.
And again, if you want to have a great service that will automate this process for a small monthly fee, definitely sign up with Traffic Geyser. They do much more than just video automation.
This is really cool stuff so have some fun with it. People go to these web sites to have fun so, try to keep that in mind when you make your video. If doing the video is scaring you a bit, don’t let it. Most people have Microsoft PowerPoint on their desktops and that is all you need to get started. Make a nice PowerPoint slide show and export it to movie format. You can do all sorts of things with PowerPoint and it is pretty easy to use. Go through the Traffic Geyser free videos and just see all the cool information they have. It’s helpful even if you never sign up for the service but, definitely do the free trial. Even if you are still very concerned about spending money after the first month you can just tell them not bill you until you are ready. Go back and pay when you are ready; this way you will know what you have to do when the time is right.
This chapter will dive right into how to set up your website properly.
These points will help you improve your Google quality score. Remember to be Outrageous, Factual and Reliable…
1.Starting with the domain you choose, make sure it has one or more relevant keywords in the name and make sure you did not have it set to private when you bought it. Make sure it’s listed as public because you don’t want to appear as if you have something to hide; Google does not like that.
2.Your homepage should look fresh and uncluttered while still containing at the very least 100 to 200 words of relevant ad copy. Don’t make it too short and definitely don’t make it too long. In the ad copy, make sure you are integrating a good variety of keywords to optimize the SEO with at least 3-5% keyword density. Don’t do anything silly like repeat words or make ridiculous sentences. It must read well and have many keywords mentioned. Choose keywords that may not have the highest competition in addition to the high volume keywords; mix it up. Use the Google Keyword Tool.
3.If you get into promoting affiliate websites, make sure you get your affiliate link encrypted. If they don’t seem to offer it, ask about it; they should all be encrypting now or very soon.
4.Your website should be rich in keywords and have at least 5 to 6 pages of information relevant to what you are selling or offering. Your home page plus at least 5 other supporting pages of information. Make them look nice and make sure they make sense. This is very important because you will want to have an opt in on at least one of the pages. You want Google to like your website in order to give you good ranking in web searches for your keywords.
5.Get a Google Sitemap ASAP to improve your Google quality score. You should have your Google login by now.
6.Make your website looks like a real business with customer support chat or live phone support if your business warrants it. If people know or even think you have a customer support agent waiting, they are about 50% more likely to buy from you. Provided of course your information is factual and reliable.
7.We talked about video as a great and free means of advertising your business already. The beauty of having a good video for your business ready-to-go; is you can put it on your homepage too. This will help get your visitors to become paying customers and will improve your Google quality score as well for SEO. If you have time make a special video for your website that will prompt a visitor or somehow compel them to optin. It works so give it some thought and you’ll figure out what gets buyers.
8.When you are proud of your website, link your site to other sites and have them linked back to you. Make sure good sites are linking to you and that you link to high quality sites in the first place. The better the website you are linked to the better SEO you will have with higher Google rankings.
The bottom line here folks, let’s not flick the butt before the ash comes but keep your eyes and ears open for any changes that Google may be making in the future. Pay attention to anything you hear about Google. If you see anyone blogging about “Google Slaps” read up and ask questions. Above all, login to your Google account often for updates and tutorials.
I can give you the illusion that all information you’ll ever need is in this book but, that would be a lie coming from any author. You have to stay on top of the Google game and that means a lot of research at first. Its worth your time so don’t be afraid to put the work in.
For traffic to happen on your site you have to get the word out. Mostly this means you need to pay for advertising at first. When you get good however, and have more time to work your SEO, you will see more organic traffic happening. Organic in that it has properties of self-perpetuation but not that it will just grow without augmentation. You have to work hard at it and eventually you gain a following and then you get the word-of-mouth effect as we talked about. Word-of-mouth happens when you are factual and reliable but you have to get people there before you have word-of-mouth to help sales along. You have to be outrageous. Outrageous, Factual and then Reliable. I reinforce these points often to make you understand that if you are not these things you will most likely waste your ad money.
You can decide right now how you want to start advertising.
Do you want to get your feet wet and start slowly and as inexpensively as possible while learning valuable money saving and money making lessons along the way? Or do you need to jump in and have the situation handled where you need to get the traffic to your site immediately? If immediately then I would assume you have your website ready to go and have a well established service that is now reaching the advent of its internet marketing stages. Great! Make sure you use the links on my ‘Get Going Quick List’ for the best and cheapest service. Those links on the ‘Get Going Quick List’ will give you a discount as well.
Regardless of whether you want to start spending money on Google Ad Campaigns now or later we should talk about the stuff that doesn’t cost anything upfront. It won’t cost anything to use these services but, of course it will require some work. Then at the bottom we talk about the costly AdWords, AdSense and Direct Mail. They are costly but you will have a better sense of how to spend it by working with your keywords and using video, blogs and Twitter at first. You will eventually get to the point where your advertising budget is exceeded by your profits; which is obviously where you want to be. Make sure you refer to your free Perry Marshall AdWord cheat sheet again for tips on placing ads and how to select your keywords.
Video
Video is really pretty simple. Check out a bunch of other relevant videos online and then do your own. I say to check a bunch of others out so you know how high you have to raise the bar to be noticed. Search through the video sites for what you want to sell. See what’s out there, and step it up by making yours a little better. Don’t kill yourself but make sure you include the important information. Your video should always have your website address. If you don’t have your website in the video itself, you are wasting your time. All video sites have a description box where you put your outrageous ad copy and it is very important that you have your website address in the description at the very beginning and at the end of the text. Make sure the link works also by going back and clicking on it. Refer to my ‘Making Your SEO Easier, Quick List to Video, Social Bookmarks and Podcast Sites’ for a complete list of video websites you may load your video to as well as a good handful of social book marking sites that will help you get the word out about your site. This is a pretty exciting part of advertising your website because it has a huge impact when done properly. Other than the expense or just simply the time invested in making a video, it’s free advertising.
Blogs
People often ask me, “What are blogs and what can be written in a blog?” Anything can be written in a blog for the most part. The real question is, “What should I write in my blog?” In short, use your blogs to answer questions and promote products. The main thing with blogs is that they be keyword rich and have links to your website. I recommend using WordPress since it is free and very user friendly. All you need to do is log in to WordPress and mull around a little before you start to get a feel for what to do. Use their tutorials as well; you will be glad you did. When you are first setting it up, you can choose to have them host your blog or have them use your domain name if you have one that you are paying to have hosted. If you don’t yet have a website, have WordPress host it for you with their servers. You can always promote your affiliate sites on blogs hosted by WordPress if you want to get started that way.
Articles
Article writing is very important and you will understand why after a little time. The main thing is to do what you love or try to stay close to home so-to-speak so it’s easy to write about your product. Just anything you write about from now on, you write with an agenda. Your purpose is to get the person reading anything you write to go to your website. When they finally make it to your website, don’t blow it, be factual and reliable.
Twitter
Twitter is the up and coming little guy on the block. I will be honest; Twitter is somewhat of a toy right now. It is a good way however, to start getting used to promoting affiliate websites for commission because any commission you get goes straight to your pocket and it’s totally free. You can make money with Twitter if you follow the steps I gave you in my ‘Start Now! Make Money with Twitter’ chapter. The trick is to automate it so you don’t have to bother with it again. You can make a separate account for each affiliate website you choose to promote. Give it time and it can yield some nice results. If you are just starting out, I recommend you do “The Knowledge” and set up Twitter accounts to get going. This way you can satisfy that itch to get going right away and not waste your money on ineffective advertising. At the very least, make a personal account and use my automation tips for that so you see how fast you can gain followers. Don’t go crazy, just get started with Twitter for fun.
AdWords
AdWords is for people who advertise on Google. The term ‘ad words’ is well used and it is not unique to Google other than the fact that they call that part of their business ‘AdWords’. I won’t reinvent the wheel here, so again this is what you need to know about Google AdWords: Five Days to Success with Google Ad Words.
Read it all and download the cheat sheet. Seriously, I won’t get into it here since he did such a good job and it is free. It’s exactly what you need to know about Google AdWords. You know my advice already with Google I hope. Don’t jump into it unless you have cash to throw away. You will notice we talk a lot about Google and there’s a good reason for that; Google is King. Something like 75% of all web traffic comes from Google. Google is also a very good gauge for your success and if you apply the techniques for AdWords to other search engines you will have good results. Just pay attention to Google and the rest will follow. All in good time, do “The Knowledge”. When you know how to place ads from experience and researching your market, you will be very effective. Take your time and don’t get angry or upset or anything else that may raise your blood pressure. All in good time and, let me just suggest for now that you get a Google Mail login or a Gmail address, same thing, and see what they have. Google is pretty amazing stuff and will be your bread and butter when you make it as an online marketer. Google just announced their new operating system due to come out in 2010. Keep abreast of what Google is doing as they are the leaders. When they launch their new operating system it will be a very important event so get that operating system as soon as you can! I am sure they will reward online marketers using their operating system as opposed to Microsoft, Mac or Linux.
AdSense
AdSense is also Google and in its basic sense it is best used by web publishers or anyone posting a lot of useful information on the internet. So if you are a Do-It-Yourself website for fixing your home or office, you would have ads that have to do with tools and stuff like that. Google will read your website and make decisions about what ads to place in your website. Once you actually have a good and informative website, it’s fairly easy to be accepted by Google for their AdSense program. However, you do need to be approved and it may seem very difficult at first. Don’t despair, as a beginner you can leave AdSense out of the picture for a little while until you get up to speed with what you are going to sell. If you are a good content website already, the first thing you want to do is get a Site Map from Google. Then, go to Google AdSense to sign up to be an AdSense advertising website. My suggestion would be to use a generic Gmail address to see if you make the grade for AdSense and if you get rejected the first time, open another Gmail account and start over. Make sure you go online to watch and read all the AdSense Tutorials Google offers. You will be worlds ahead of where you are now by doing that. You have to do “The Knowledge” and realize that as much as I can tell you in this book, you still have to refer to the source, which in this case is the Google AdSense Tour.
Direct Mail
If you were good enough to get addresses from your website visitors, great! Send them direct mail brochures, pamphlets or flyers for anything you have to offer or simply to remind folks they are due for another order. Direct mail is not used like it was in the old days and therefore it is extremely effective. You can also invest in mailing lists and when the time comes for that, you’ll want to know exactly where that information came from. Just don’t forget about direct mail because when you have a budget to advertise, this is great way to go.
I’m sure you are getting the gist but, just to reiterate, do “The Knowledge”. You must do your homework before making any serious AdWord campaign investment. Use video, blogs and Twitter to get going and after you get the hang of that, start with AdWords. If you find Google to be overwhelmingly hard at first, try Yahoo as they are a bit more easy-going with the quality score.
It’s important to not get overwhelmed by this online marketing game at first. You have to take it slow and digest every bite before you move on. With every piece of information you will grow stronger with knowledge and every day you will feel more like an online marketer. One day you will arise and unconsciously go directly to your daily routine without trepidation. That day is the first day of the rest of your online marketing career. Just like life, it’s what you make of it.
Be proud of yourself and never tell yourself you can’t. You absolutely can. Do not beat yourself up and always be good to yourself. You deserve to have what you desire in life for you and your family. Take these values you feel everyday and apply it to your career as an online marketer. The “real” reality with working online is you can do what you love.

We are going to jump right into what all the fuss is about SEO and what it is actually.
Search Engine Optimization
Ok, big deal right?
Not a big deal. Everyone in the business talks about it all the time referring to it simply as SEO. Jargon is what distinguishes the elite from the common people. Forget that. The ones with simple information that try to make it more than it seems to confuse others and distract them from success, are not elite anyway. In the long run, they are losers and know it, so they hover over information and covet it as if it was the divine grace of the Holy Grail. Just ridiculous really.
That mentality alienates people with true talent from the power of the internet. Think of it: about 50% of the internet is lies. Or shall we say a “Web of Lies"? And governments threaten to enforce control over the internet under that perceived threat of disinformation. These tricksters out there are enabling control over our free space and liberty by not fulfilling their promises. Very sad indeed.
So yes, this is about SEO and I will get to that but try to understand something. You are reading this now, evaluating your position in the world as an online marketer, at the crossroads. You can go forward to try for the quick buck, which will be snatched away from you by the hands of disinformation and haste. Or, you can think right now before you learn about SEO and decide to do the right thing for our great country or countries. We all matter, brothers and sisters alike! I believe that truly.
Let me compel you to do the right thing for yourself and for everyone else in this world not yet privy to the "Web of Lies". Help me help them. More importantly, help you to do the right thing. I explained in the Intro why. Read it again if you have to. The gist is if you don't start out right and do "The Knowledge", you will get burned right out of the gate. Unless you have money to burn, you don't want to make mistakes with AdWords too often. Even so, if you have money to burn then don't be hasty and give it away. Learn. Do "The Knowledge'. It really only takes a few months of practical day-in day-out goal setting and a basic schema change. Most importantly, you will feel great about what you know.
So again, before we start. Don't quit your job yet and if you are jobless right now, look for jobs as well as train to be an online marketer. Don't spend your money right away on AdWord campaigns that you are unsure of or anything that cost you money, outside of this training cost, which is very small relative to what you will gain. Also, if you decide to start working on your website, use my ‘Get Going Quick List’. If you are going to do well the first time around my suggestions there are the way to go. This is very important. It may turn out that you learn enough about online marketing to work for a marketing company so you can continue to learn and work toward your goals. Now that makes good sense and will propel you to where you need to be. It is, excuse the adage, like riding a bike. You will get it. Just give it time...
Ok so now we talk about what SEO really is. The prior few paragraphs will gel a little better after you hear what SEO is all about. It's all relevant.
WHAT IS SEO?
SEO is all about making your pages work well with Google. The other search engines too but Google is the king so we worry about them alone at this point and that won’t change very soon.
In a nutshell SEO is the best thing you can do for your website. Also, since you are probably a beginner, understand that you can only change or improve a site you own. I will explain later but you are most likely going to sell affiliate products at first. I will tell you how to do that without spending a dime while learning SEO and everything else you need to know before you fully immerse yourself in online marketing. It won’t be with Google right away. That is something you work up to, all in good time. Do "The Knowledge".
SEO will deliver more bang for your buck.
Google is cutting edge technology that organizes its data in such a way that will improve search performance for Googlers and reward online marketers that play well with Google programming. It's essentially playing nice with Google.
Ok, so as not to make this difficult, let's run down the list of Google considerations for SEO. Here's an important thing to keep in mind. I am actually writing this book with my own hands, not with some outsourced researchers words. If an "Author" outsourced all or parts of his or her book, something very important is lost... You! So with other books, you get non-contiguous content leading you to another source of information that seems to be helpful and it is not. It leaves you with questions that will lead you down the online marketing funnel. You want to do this yourself, as the marketing funnel is a good thing but, you have to do it as if your face was attached to everything.
Get it?
Provide good products with honest testimonials and don't try to beat Google. You can't. You will maybe get away with it for some time but in the long run, you will be successful by being a good home business person. Plus, like I said before, by the time you figure out how to beat Google or cut corners or trick their systems, you could have been learning the real side of the business where you would have eventually levitated anyway. You have to. Otherwise you will be pushed out and around while ensuring a very poor reputation. Do "The Knowledge"!
SEO Checklist, Q & A:
Do you need to submit your site to Google?
Google has what they call spiders to run regular searches throughout the web that find your site and anything else you have made in relation to your site that is online. They know this from your Domain name: www.yourdomain.com.
What is cloaking?
Cloaking is not allowed by Google. If they detect it, your site will be shut down, literally. Cloaking is when the webmaster (they guy that creates and makes changes to a website, which may be you someday, unless you go straight to outsourcing) makes the code look different than the actual website in order to gain more traffic. So he or she may take a very successful website and emulate the code for Google to detect while having his own website visually displayed to the customer.
It's like stealing, and if you were the successful online business that was being copied, you would not like it. So don't let cloaking distract you. Make those bad decisions later if you want. For now, you have to learn the business and do "The Knowledge" first before you can beat the system or anything progressive like that. I don't recommend it!
What does Google want you to do?
1. Google wants a good website with clear copy on the pages. Make it look good and make it easy to get around the site. Navigation is important so when you review prospective affiliate sites or better yet, when you make your own website, do it well. You do it well by following the guidelines prescribed by this book.
2. Go to Google and have your Google Site Map created and have it placed in your website. The site map is important so Google knows how to index your site for better distribution. Again, if you are new, you are probably not building websites or having them built yet so just keep this in the forefront of your thinking. You will need this soon enough and it's important in any case. If you exceed 80 to 100 links on your page, it is good to break it up into several pages. Google will think you are an amateur if you clutter your pages.
3. Let’s talk about ‘Keywords’. Keywords are search words you type into Google for anything you want online. Just like when you search for anything online in that little text box. In the case of selling online, some keywords are more powerful than others. This is how people find their niches to sell. More on that later but just know this: if you are selling a book on how to lose weight, your niche may be "How I lost weight" or "How to lose weight in 10 days" or simply "Weight Loss". Ok stop, think. In these three variations, your advertising on Google will cost more for "Weight Loss" than for "How I lost Weight" or "How to lose weight in 10 days". This is what a niche is essentially; keywords. Those phrases are keywords. The longer ones are referred to simply as "Long Tail Keywords". The long tail keywords are where you find niches. Action words are important for getting people to your website that are actually looking for your product. Sure you can advertise a keyword that gets a lot of Google searches however, if they are not looking for your product they may just click your ad out of curiosity. Then you are out of the cost of listing that keyword with Google. So stay action oriented and think to yourself, what will work. This is your business. You can do what others can not because; you are you, an individual with thoughts, hopes and dreams. Translate your experience to the product you are selling. This is why people always say "Do what you love". People will buy from you if you are sincere and you will feel good, maybe even fulfilled on some emotional level. Seriously, this is life here; take care of yourself and treat others well. Of course ask for a payment at some point as well. That's what we are here for! Never be afraid to ask for money and don't be unrealistic about it either. See what other systems sell for and compare.
4. Now that you know all your keywords you should research them extensively at first by trying different variations and seeing how many results Google turns out. The higher the number in search results, the more competition out there. So again with weight loss, "Weight Loss" may turn up many millions in the Google search but "How I Lost Weight in 10 Days" may only turn up one million or less. So it will be less expensive to set up an Ad words campaign with the long tail keyword then the regular short "Weight Loss". Every time someone clicks on your sponsored Google Ad you pay for the click. Meaning if someone clicks your ad, regardless if they buy, you pay Google whatever you bid up to. Don't be confused by this. It's easy to work with Google Ads. Work on your keywords. Google has a free AdWord Tool for you to get different variations of your own keywords. It's very good stuff...
5. Nice images and graphics are very important to lead a person through your site and keep them there long enough to want to buy your product. However, as mentioned on my third point for SEO, you need to be rich in relevant keywords on your front page. Ok, stop. I know I mentioned that already but, you must remember that Google will not pick up any keywords in your site page if you have them in the graphic images. Your keywords must be in text like you are reading now. A different font is ok. You may want to play with the font for better results and Google is ok with different fonts. The point is: Google can't read image text.
6. Title and ALT tags should be relevant to your content. You should always have accurate unbroken links. Don't send someone to a page that does not exist. It's like throwing money out the window. Don't worry if you don't understand this. You will not have to do this at first to get started. You do need to know this nonetheless. Also, stay away from question marks in your links. Google can't read those yet. Note: if you want to play around with a free website, go to WordPress. It is absolutely free. Not like "Free" in the marketing funnel world, I mean free. Use it. Enjoy. Go through all the settings and see what they ask and offer whilst setting up your account. You will learn very well what I am talking about here and it will be fun and easy. I want you to have fun with this and be happy and positive. Do what you love!
7. Lucky seventh point: a recap of the above six.
a. Keep your content relevant and fresh. Avoid redundancy! No duplicates...
b. Be honest and don't try to fool anyone or try to get rich quick, it won't work.
c. Don't be a Joker, I mean Cloaker. Yes, remember the Joker from Batman. If the Joker was an online marketer, he would be a Cloaker. Or, "The Cloaker"! With the bad makeup and glum disposition you get an idea of the toll it can take on you and society.
d. Be original, write original content and review any affiliations with other marketers with great scrutiny. If you want to sell someone's product as an affiliate, like a digital product from Click Bank, research it as if you needed that product yourself and decide what looks best to you. Read their pitch page and look it over closely as if you were the buyer.
Seven points to demystify the glory that is Google...
It is where you decide to focus your attention in a particularly broad market. So we talked about "Weight Loss" already so let's continue there for continuity and because it is a very big market to explore your potential.
Let's keep this simple. Niches are easy to put your head around in concept. So we go to Google and enter "Weight Loss" in the text search box. That's a big niche with many results and it will include searchers that are not looking to pay for a product and simply want to research the topic for free suggestions. The big online marketers out there know that but still use this broad keyword search because it yields the most results. They can do this because they know how to grab a person once they click their home page. They know what gets people to buy their products from doing "The Knowledge". They put in the time. Again, this is why we say "Do what you love" because; it makes it easy for you to research and when you love something you put a better product out. This tactic overall will improve the quality of products online while allowing people to do what they love. When you do what you love, you do it for longer periods of time, thus becoming an authority on the product and assuring a dedicated following. When people follow you on your blogs, video, website, Twitter, etc., they buy more products from you in the future.
How do they buy more from you in the future?
Once a person completes an order you have their information to market products to them on email. If you don't get a purchase you try to get them to leave their email address. With the email address you market to them later. You will directly market to their email address with thousands of other email addresses that you collected after a period of time depending on how aggressive you are. Whatever niche your website is in is what you market to them; like Weight Loss.
How aggressive do I want to be at first?
Well, we talked about starting slow at first so as not to waste your hard earned money only to be discouraged and possibly quit. Aggressiveness in online marketing is very much like the school yard bully. The kids will eventually figure out how to handle the bully after a few weeks. Before that however, the bully will try to get in as many jabs as possible so as to slow your progress. Jabs in the online marketing world are in the form of distracting get rich quick schemes. They promise to have the easy secrets to online marketing to start making money right now. They don't actually know any secrets per se`. They have tactics used by many with a different way of describing them to you. The same amount of work will be required one way or another.
Stick to the principles of good business.
Try to stick to the principles of good business. If you don't know something, research it. When you start out, start out with one product and concentrate on that. Write the home page copy with heart and if you decide to promote an affiliate, choose the best one for you and work with that. Go to Click Bank Marketplace and concentrate on vendors with ‘High Gravity’ as you will see a sort option for just that. You want the vendors that are good (as you decide) and that have a good customer conversion rate.
Online marketing is still in its bully stages.
The mass of successful online marketers see how dominant they are and have not yet realized they have to grow up and form with the rest of the schoolyard to make friends. Most online marketers are not looking to make friends. They want to get in and make money anyway they can. You can too, I just don't recommend it. It's not good business. The internet will soon be all about good business and will turn away the bully marketers. That's where you want to be in order to be truly successful. You want to be a good online business.
Why are they bullies?
Because the number one tactic they employ is fear. Fear is crap. For example: "If you don't take advantage of this great deal now it will expire at midnight and I will increase the price, and you will continue to gain weight". In reality they will create copy that generates an emotional element which will act out of fear. They want you to think: "Oh no, I should do this now to be safe. It does say it has a money back guarantee."
The money back guarantee.
Online marketers are expecting the buyer to forget about the money-back guarantee. They basically figure that if you were dumb enough to fall for that line of "fear" tactics then you probably won’t even try the weight loss product or use the information to know that is does or does not work. That is how the business works.
Are all online marketers bullies?
No. I am not a bully. You are probably not a bully yet. I say yet because you have the potential to be a bully. I don't recommend it. Soon enough the copy police will come to each website and sift through all the "fear" copy to issue a cease and desist order or simply shut down the offenders. Has not happened yet but it will. Look at the news! Credit card companies are finally getting the squeeze for preying on people by exponentially increasing the APR after the initial period or if a person makes one or two late payments. They want you to be late on your payments to make more money. And they want to get your balances way up before that happens. All predators!
Does it have to be this way?
No. As a matter of fact, if online marketers knew how to make as much money using truth as they do using fear tactics, a good majority would use the good old standard; honest to goodness products with reliable information to back their claims. Just like I am writing this book. You can tell I am being honest too. I would make more money of I tried to employ fear tactics. I don't want to do this. I have means to make money in other ways and I want to help set the new online marketing standard.
Think of how great the internet would be without the millionaire grifters that employ fear tactics to take money from hard working people. The real internet is yet to come. This is why I had to make you understand this before you started working on your niche. Because you can be distracted by these predators getting you to buy one product after another until you give up and never give them the "Honest" competition they deserve. They want you to buy their stuff and get out of the way.
So now that you know this you should start thinking about what you want to sell. Or better yet, if you have a business already and need to market it online which the good majority of people reading this will, then you should know not to spoil your business with fear tactics. You can do better than that and it will yield much better results in the long run, I promise.
So you decided on your niche.
Good, you have a niche. Now let's narrow it down for your business...
What do you need?
1. You need a Product.
2. You need a mailing list.
3. And you probably want to start thinking about doing a membership site immediately.
Product
a. You want the best product, not the product with the highest commission, unless of course the best product has the highest commission. You want to believe in the product. If you choose a health product, choose one that may be good for you to use. I'm serious here. You are just starting out with online marketing so you have to live and breathe your product to make it successful. After you do one or two you will get the hang of it and it will become less important to do it this way. For now, do it this way. I promise it will help you get going in a very real way and you will feel good about it. If you do 100 at once, you will be overwhelmed and learn close to nothing in comparison to doing one at a time. This means you may be working one product for a few weeks adjusting and deciding on what is best. It may seem slow but you will be learning and doing "The Knowledge". If you have your own business already, you should be thinking about how you want to be seen in one year. What do you want your customers to think about your business? Start writing everything down. If a customer filled out a questionnaire what would you want them to say? Now write it down note-by-note, day-by-day and piece-by-piece. Then take all that and write your homepage copy. Now re-write it of course but, what you are doing is taking the fake testimonials you wrote from a perfect world situation and repurposing it to your home page copy. This is why you see many sites with testimonials on the home page, it's very effective. Choose a great and dynamic product to sell or make yours more dynamic and perhaps outrageous if it works for your niche. Do it up!
Mailing List
Why did I say make it a dynamic and outrageous product? Because you have to write about it to your mailing list and it can't be boring. If you are boring you will lose your following immediately. Some products are not as flexible with the outrageous tactic so just ramp it down accordingly. You want to be outrageous, factual and reliable. Give the details and make a nice story with it or tell people how your day went and integrate your products in that. You could be talking about your day and how proud you are to finally introduce a new product. Also, make sure your email subject is very catchy or they won’t even open it. Anything really, as long as it is outrageous, factual and reliable.
Membership Sites
Setting up a membership site is something you should start thinking about immediately because it will take some time to get it rolling. It is not hard to do but you will want to consider what you will offer to people so they will want to pay you $20 or so for the year. What updates can they count on if they are a subscriber to your website? What do you offer now that you may only want to give to special members? Look at what you have to sell and ascribe a value to it. If you are selling a book, make sure the book is factual and reliable. If you mention another topic that you are not covering in the book you sell, refer them to your website membership and cover it there with weekly updates on the latest for that subject. Word of mouth is very powerful with membership sights and when set up properly with reliable facts, it will self-perpetuate. This is why I say to be a good business from day one. Your honest reliability will win over future members. Then offer your current members an incentive to bring on more members. Give them a discounted membership or a free year and give them something not given to regular members. People love to feel like they are getting something nice for their trouble. If you have a good product, they will go out of their way to promote it.
If you have a budget, send them a t-shirt or some small token of appreciation with your website name on it. This really works well! Also, when you register your members, get their addresses and phone if possible. Or make it an option for them to receive more incentives when they register initially. Then budget permitting, send them some coupons to give to their friends. Don't forget about direct mailing like everyone else has. It's extremely effective and these days very few marketers take advantage of it.
