Stella

Major Lance (April 4, 1939 September 3, 1994) was an American R&B singer. After a number of US hits in the 1960s, including "The Monkey Time" and "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um", he became an iconic figure in Britain in the 1970s among followers of Northern soul.
Major Lance was born in Winterville, Mississippi. Major was his given forename. As a child, he relocated with his family to Chicago, attending Wells High School - the same school as Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler - taking up boxing and also singing as a member of the Five Gospel Harmonaires. In the mid-1950s, he and singer Otis Leavill formed a group, the Floats, who broke up before recording any material. Lance became a featured dancer on a local TV show, and presenter Jim Lounsbury secured him a one-off record deal with Mercury Records, who released his single "I Got a Girl", written and produced by Curtis Mayfield, in 1959. The record was not successful, and Lance worked at various jobs over the next few years.
In 1962 he signed with OKeh Records on Mayfield's recommendation. His first single, "Delilah", was not successful, but established his partnership with a writing and arranging team of Mayfield, Carl Davis, and Johnny Pate, often with members of Mayfield's group The Impressions on backing vocals. Together they developed a distinctive, Latin-tinged sound which epitomised Chicago soul in contrast to music recorded elsewhere.
The second Okeh single, "The Monkey Time", became a #2 Billboard R&B chart and #8 pop hit in 1963. A succession of hits followed quickly, including "Hey Little Girl", "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" (his biggest hit, reaching #5 in the US pop chart and #40 in the UK, where it was his only chart success), "The Matador" (the only one not written by Mayfield), "Rhythm", "Sometimes I Wonder", "Come See", and "Ain't It A Shame

The Ohio Express was a musical recording unit, mainly active from 1967 through 1970, and occasionally since that time.
Though marketed as a band, it would be more accurate to say that the name "The Ohio Express" served as a brand name used by Jerry Kasenetz and Jeffrey Katz's Super K Productions to release the music of a number of different musicians and acts. The best known songs of The Ohio Express (including their best scoring single, "Yummy Yummy Yummy") were actually the work of an assemblage of studio musicians working out of New York, including singer/songwriter Joey Levine.
Several other "Ohio Express" hits were the work of other, unrelated musical groups, including The Rare Breed, and an early incarnation of 10cc. In addition, a completely separate touring version of The Ohio Express appeared at all live dates, and recorded some of the band's album tracks.

Patricia Eva "Bonnie" Pointer (born July 11, 1950) is an American R&B and disco singer, most notable for being the next-to-youngest member of the 1970s and 1980s family music group, The Pointer Sisters. She scored several moderate solo hits after leaving the Pointers in 1977, including a disco cover of The Elgins' "Heaven Must Have Sent You" which became a U.S. top 20 pop hit on September 1, 1979.
Bonnie and youngest sister June began singing together as teenagers and in 1969 the duo had co-founded The Pointers (otherwise known as The Pair). After Anita joined the duo that same year, they changed their name to The Pointer Sisters and recorded several singles for Atlantic Records between 1971 and 1972. In December 1972, they recruited oldest sister Ruth and released their debut album as The Pointer Sisters in 1973. Their self-titled debut yielded the hit, "Yes We Can Can".
Between 1973 and 1977, the Pointers' donned 1940s fashions and sang in a style reminiscent of The Andrew Sisters; they also melded the sounds of R&B, funk, rock and roll, gospel, country and soul. Anita and Bonnie who wrote the group's crossover country hit, "Fairytale," in 1974, which also became a Top 20 pop hit and won the group their first Grammy for Best Vocal by a Duo or Group, Country. Anita and Bonnie also were nominated for Best Country Song at the same ceremony.
In 1977, Bonnie left the group to begin a solo career. The remaining sisters continued scoring hits from the late 1970s to the mid 1980s and had a major breakthrough with their 1983 album Break Out.
In 1978, Bonnie married Motown Records Producer Jeffrey Bowen and signed with Motown in the same year, Bonnie released "Heaven Must Have Sent You," which reached #11 on Billboard Hot 100 chart. She released three solo albums, including two self-titled albums for Motown, before retiring from the studio.
Bonnie appeared on Soul Train on March 2, 1985 (Season 14, Episode 20).
She still continues to perform, and reunited with her sisters on two separate occasions: when the group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994, and during a Las Vegas, Nevada performance in 1996 singing "Jump (For My Love)."
On May 4, 2006, shortly after the death of her sister June, Bonnie appeared on Entertainment Tonight saying her sisters had not fulfilled June's burial wishes, thus cremating her because it was cheaper.[citation needed] She also claimed that Anita and Ruth refused to let her ride in the family car at the funeral.[citation needed] Eldest brother Fritz Pointer responded that Bonnie demanded to be let back in the group, or she would not come to the funeral
At the beginning of 2008, Bonnie embarked on a European tour, and has been working on her autobiography.
Bonnie performed at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City on Saturday, October 25, 2008.
On June 4th, 2010, TMZ reported that Bonnie will join the cast of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" a reality show about addiction, because "the 59-year-old singer has a storied history of drug abuse."

Lieutenant Pigeon was a British musical group popular in the early 1970s. A spin-off from an experimental music band Stavely Makepeace, [1] it was fronted by Rob Woodward. The group's sound was dominated by a heavy ragtime-style piano played by Woodward's mother, Hilda.
Lieutenant Pigeon achieved two UK hits: "Mouldy Old Dough", written by Rob Woodward with bandmate Nigel Fletcher, reached number one in 1972, followed by "Desperate Dan" (number 17 in 1973).[2] Both tracks were largely instrumental, with the titles providing virtually the only lyrics. "Mouldy Old Dough" (the title being an adaptation of the 1920s jazz phrase, "vo-de-o-do") became the second biggest selling UK single of the year, behind The Band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' bagpipe version of "Amazing Grace".
Lieutenant Pigeon scored a further hit, in the autumn of 1974, when it reached number 3 in the Australian charts with a cover version of "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen".

The Move, from Birmingham, England, were one of the leading British rock bands of the 1960s. They scored nine Top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any success in the United States.[2][3]
Although bassist-vocalist Chris "Ace" Kefford was the original leader, for most of their career The Move was led by guitarist, singer and songwriter Roy Wood. He composed all the group's UK singles and, from 1968, also sang lead vocals on many songs, although Carl Wayne was the main lead singer up to 1970.[2]
The group evolved from several mid 1960s Birmingham based groups, including Carl Wayne and the Vikings, the Nightriders and the Mayfair Set. The group's name referred to the move various members of these bands made to form the group.[1] Beside Wood, the original five-piece line-up of The Move in 1965 was drummer Bev Bevan, bassist Kefford, vocalist Carl Wayne and guitarist Trevor Burton.[1] The final line-up of 1972 was the trio of Wood, Bevan and Jeff Lynne, who transitioned the group into the Electric Light Orchestra.

Percy Sledge (Leighton (Alabama), 25 november 1940) is een Amerikaans soulzanger, best bekend van de nummers "When a Man Loves a Woman" en "My Special Prayer".
De single werd opgevolgd door de hits "Love me Tender", "Take Time to Know her" en in 1969 "My Special Prayer".
In de jaren zeventig daalde zijn populariteit. "I'll be your everything" uit 1975 was zijn laatste grote internationale hit.

The Marcels were a doo-wop group known for turning American classical pop songs into rock and roll. The group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with lead Cornelius Harp, bass Fred Johnson, Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy, and Richard Knauss. The group was named by Fred Johnson's younger sister Priscilla, after a popular hair style of the day (the Marcell wave). In 1961 many were shocked to hear a new version of the ballad, "Blue Moon" that began with the bass singer saying, "bomp-baba-bomp" and "dip-da-dip." The record sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.[1] It is featured in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.[citation needed]
The disc went to number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., additional revivals in the same vein as "Blue Moon" - "Heartaches" and "Melancholy Baby" - were less successful, although "Heartaches" peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually sold over one million copies worldwide.
In August 1961, due to problems encountered in the Deep South while touring because of the group being bi-racial, the white members, Knauss and Bricker left and were replaced by Allen Johnson (brother of Fred) and Walt Maddox. Mundy left soon after, leaving the group a quartet.
In 1962, Harp and Allen Johnson left, and were replaced by Richard Harris and William Herndon. There was a brief reunion of the original members in 1973. The group made several recordings in 1975 with Harp back on lead.
Original member Gene Bricker died in 1983. Allen Johnson died in 1995.
By the early 1990s the group included Johnson, Maddox, Harris, Jules Hopson, and Richard Merritt.
The group split around 1995. Fred Johnson formed his own group with new members, while the other four members recruited new bassist Ted Smith. Maddox won a lawsuit against Sunny James Svetnic, the manager of Johnson's group, for trademark infringement in 1996.[citation needed] Johnson reunited with Harp, Mundy, and Knauss in 1999 for the PBS special Doo Wop 50.
The Marcels were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

Your Baby with a Dixie Melody.
I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You).
Aretha Franklin had veel top 10-hits, waaronder covers van andere beroemdheden, zoals The Beatles (Eleanor Rigby), The Band (The Weight), Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water), Sam Cooke en The Drifters.
Andere belangrijke hits waren Chain of Fools, Natural Woman, Think, Baby I Love You, The House That Jack Built, I Say a Little Prayer en Respect.

Latere nummers van hem waren Lonely Teardrops en I'll Be Satisfied.
