Criers ensure a very happy day
COLOUR came to Carnforth at the weekend when town criers from around the country arrived for their annual competition.
Carnforth town crier, Frank Barton organised the event on Saturday, sponsored by Carnforth Town Council, the Chamber of Trade and local businesses.
In all, 14 competitors took part and travelled from all parts of England. The competition was preceded by a parade of competitors, escorts and town dignitaries, led by the Morecambe Brass Band. Frank and his wife, June, would like to thank all of the sponsors and helpers who made the day a great success.
The competition winners were: 1 Paul Gough (Nuneaton and Bedworth), 2 Kevin Griffiths (Skipton), 3 joint Carole Williams (Bishop Stortford) and Trever Heeks (Trowbridge).
Best dressed town crier: 1 Owen Collier (Wooton Bassett), 2 Trever Heeks (Trowbridge), 3 Paul Gough (Nuneaton and Bedworth). Best dressed escort: Anne Bell (Cromer, Norfolk). The crier that won the Lancashire Cup was Trever Heeks, Trowbridge Wiltshire.
