Middleton’s Town Crier Challenge 2009

Celebrating Middleton, Nova Scotia’s 100th Anniversary,
this competition is being planned, for September 12th, 2009.
It is being held as one of the many events in the Town of Middleton for 2009’s 1ooth anniversary of the incorporation of the Town, which took place on July 22, 1909.

FRIDAY, Sept. 11, 2009

......Criers arriving during the afternoon at MidValley Motel Middleton

......7 P.M. - Meet and Greet to be held at Mid Valley Motel - cash bar only (no food)

                   Draw for positioning will take place during the evening

                    All copies of proclamations to be handed in to Judging Co-                    ordinator      (this means bring 2 copies of your cry)

 ......6:30PM - Judging Co-ordinator meets with Judges for supper at Pasta Jax, 300 Main Street Middleton.

SATURDAY, Sept. 12, 2009

......8 A.M. to 10 A.M. - Breakfast - Mid Valley Motel

......10:00 A.M. to 11:30 P.M. - Vsit to Memory Lane Train Station; Walk about in downtown Middleton at your leisure

......11:30 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. - light lunch and final briefing to criers from Judging Co-                    ordinator - MacDonald Museum - 2nd floor

......11:30 to 12:45 Judges lunch at Eisners Resturant

......1:00 P.M. go to parade start - Town Hall/Fire Department parking lot to Museum about 200 meters

......1:15 P.M. competition begins - Annapolis Valley MacDonald Museum (Middleton Baptist Church if bad weather)

...... Presentation of awards to follow the competition

......6:00 P.M. Mayor's Reception - Mid Valley Motel - meal with cash bar

2nd Heart of the Valley International Town Crier's Challenge

 On behalf of Sara and myself, I wish to thank EVERYONE for the great week-end. The competition was fantastic, the cries were ALL great, and there was a fabulous time had by all.

Many thanks go to the MidValley Motel - to Sean and the whole staff for helping to make for a great event. The chef provided excellent meals and the staff in the dining room were totally awesome. Our appreciation to Pasta Jax and Eisner's for feeding the judges.

Thanks to the judging panel for the wonderful job done.

The Town of Middleton should be proud of the facilities and the hospitality shown to my fellow criers and spouses. Everyone went away with a warm feeling for the Heart of the Valley. A special thanks to Mayor Calvin Eddy and Lorne Brown, Town Council and the Centennial Committee for their support.

A big thanks to the Annapolis Valley MacDonald Museum and Director Sherry Griffen for the use of the Museum. It is felt by all that the Museum is an excellent setting for town criers.

Thanks to the criers for making the weekend a pleasure, and to the spouses for your ever lasting support.
