    Geheim scifi-project voor Peter Jackson?

    Volgens de Nieuw-Zeelandse krant The Dominion Post werkt Peter Jackson in het geheim aan een nieuw project. De LOTR-regisseur zou zich nu volledig in de sciencefiction hebben gestort met een filmbewerking van Mortal Engines, het eerste boek uit een vierdelige reeks van de Britse schrijver Philip Reeve. Het nieuws is nog niet officieel bevestigd.

    Mortal Engines speelt zich af in een post-apocalyptische wereld waarin steden gigantische voertuigen zijn geworden die elkaar moeten verslinden om te kunnen overleven. Peter Jacksons SFX-bedrijf Weta Workshops zou naar verluidt de ontwerpen maken, waaronder de gigantische mobiele steden (die in de LOTR-traditie als 'bigature' zouden gebouwd worden).

    Als het nieuws bevestigd wordt, dan worden het drukke tijden voor Peter Jackson. De man werkt momenteel ook aan de productie van The Hobbit, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn en Dambusters. Hij nam ook een optie op de rechten van de Temeraire-verhalen, die de napoleontische oorlogen door een fantasy-bril bekijken.
