    Scott western met BardemTijdens de promotietoer van zijn nieuwe film ‘The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3’ lichtte regisseur Tony Scott ook een tipje van de sluier die hangt over zijn toekomstige filmprojecten. Eén daarvan gaat over een film over de Mexicaanse revolutionair Pancho Villa. En er is maar één ster die hij daarvoor in de hoofdrol ziet: Javier Bardem.

    Voor Scott moet deze film zijn “grote epische Western” worden, en dus moet er een hoofdrolspeler hebben van wereldfaam worden gecast. Gelukkig hebben Scott en Bardem het in het verleden al vaker over deze biopic gehad: “Ik heb (Javier) er al vaker over aangesproken… al gedurende de laatste acht jaar ofzo,” zegt Scott. En Bardem was er altijd al positief over: “Hij vertelde mij ‘Ik ben Pancho Villa’,” aldus Scott. Oké, dus Bardem heeft in elk geval interesse.

    Het is al een tijdje geleden dat er een verfilming is gemaakt van het leven van Pancho Villa. HBO maakte in 2003 ‘And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself’, met Antonio Banderas in de hoofdrol, maar dat was een tv-serie. De laatste bioscoopfilm stamt uit 1972, simpelweg getiteld ‘Pancho Villa’, van de Spaanse regisseur Eugenio Martín, met Telly “Kojak” Savalas in de hoofdrol.

    Overigens gaat ‘The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3’op 6 augustus in première.
