Warner Bros. plakt 3D achter Guillermo del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'

De geliefde filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is niet blij. Hij wordt namelijk door Warner Bros. gedwongen de sci-fi actiefilm Pacific Rim achteraf te laten omzetten naar 3D. Dit meldt de website Variety.

Eerder dit jaar liet Del Toro zich al eens tegenover Collider weloverwogen uit over de reden waarom hij geen Pacific Rim 3D wilt: "I didn’t want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big… the thing that happens naturally, you’re looking at two buildings lets say at 300 feet [away], if you move there is no parallax. They’re so big that, in 3D, you barely notice anything no matter how fast you move. To force the 3D effects for robots and monsters that are supposed to be big you are making their [perspective] miniaturized, making them human scale"

Volgens Variety ruikt Warner Bros. geld. Ondanks dat de Amerikaanse thuismarkt niet bepaald enthousiast op 3D films reageert, wordt er buiten de States flink verdiend aan het fenomeen. Daarbij komt ook kijken dat China, een enorm groeiende markt, Amerikaanse films alleen vertoont in 3D of in IMAX.

Een reactie van Del Toro laat waarschijnlijk niet lang op zich wachten. Pacific Rim komt in Nederland hoogstwaarschijnlijk op 15 augustus 2013 uit in de (3D) bioscoop.
