Ohio's Second Beard and Moustache Competition and Festival !
OHIO'S SECOND BEARD AND MOUSTACHE COMPETITIOPN AND FESTIVAL 2011 !
The people who brought you Ohio's First Beard and Moustache Competition and Festival "Beards of Charity" (for pictures go to http://mediamoments1.photoshelter.com/gallery/G0000fnnIC0venSg) have teamed up with fellow beard and moustache loving citizens of Ohio to bring you... Ohio's Second Beard and Moustache Competition and Festival ! This November 12th in Columbus, Ohio, is going to be rocked by beards from across the nation (and maybe the world) from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at the COSI Science Center in downtown Columbus to raise money for the Central Ohio Men Against Prostate Cancer (http://comapc.org/).
Tickets are $10, which gains you entrance to the event, parking, first come first serve food, and a chance to win one of many fabulous door prizes !
This year we want to celebrate everything that makes beards, moustaches, and Ohio fantastic. So what can you expect at this years event ?

Dit Wereldkampioenschap gaat gepaard met het 20-jarig bestaan van de 'Norwegian Moustache Club av 91'. Sommigen zullen zich nog wel het WK van 1997 herinneren. (http://www.dnm91.com/vm_i_trondheim_1997.htm) Een soortgelijk schema zal gehandhaafd worden en arrangementen zullen verder uigewerkt en bekend gemaakt worden in de toekomst. De competitie zal hoogstwaarschijnlijk plaatsvinden op 18 mei omdat de dag ervoor (17 mei) het Nationale Feestdag is in Noorwegen en de deelnemers aan de wedstrijd uitgenodigt worden mee op te stappen in de grote 'Celebration Parade' die jaarlijks bijgewoond wordt door een dikke 50.000 mensen, in de hoop dat de vele indrukwekkende snorren en baarden een even grote indruk zullen maken op de Noorse meisjes en dames, teneinde ook hen naar de wedstrijd te lokken.
Het sociale aspect van een dergelijk evenement is heel belangrijk. Naast een geleide rondwandeling door de stad, kan men ook deelnemen aan een boottocht naar de Trondheim Fjörd, een rondvaart met alles erop en eraan.
Daarbij komt nog dat rond deze tijd van het jaar de nachten aldaar bijna onbestaand zijn !
Voor de geinteresseerden zal vissersmateriaal aan boord zijn. Ter informatie : het wereldrecord hengelen is hier verbroken door een sportvisser die hier een 'Greenland'-haai van 800 kg bovenhaalde !
Na de competitie hebben we de gelegenheid om met de kustvaart Hurtigruten zowel naar de stad Bergen of meer naar het noorden naar Bodoe te varen (waarbij men over de Noordpoolcirkel vaart), van waaruit de terugtocht naar huis per train of met het vliegtuig mogelijk zijn. Ze hopen daarvoor ons te kunnen verrassen met gereduceerde tarieven. Het volledige traject Bergen-Kirkenes werd door de National Geographic Society uitgeroepen tot de mooiste zeetrip ter wereld !

In 1991 a few enthusiasts started the club in Trondheim. In 2011 this is 20 years ago and we want to celebrate this by invitate beard- and moustachfriends from all over the world to Trondheim. Hopefully some of you remember the WC in 1997 and our national day. All the competitors joined us in the traditional parade. In 2011 we will do that again.

Every two years, the owners of the worlds most elaborate facial hair come together for the World Beard and Moustache Championships. This year the championships were held in Trondheim/Norway for the second time in their history.
To all members of Beard Team USA !
America's team was by far the largest group attending the World Beard
and Moustache Championships in Norway last weekend. I hope I speak for all who
attended in saying how proud we were to represent our country at such a
spectacular event. For me the highlight of the event came on May 17 and we celebrated the
Norwegian National holiday with the people of Trondhjem who greeted us with
great warmth as enthusiasm as we cheered, "Vi elsker Norge!" (We love Norway!)
to the assembled crowd. The event itself drew a crowd of somewhere around 300 or 400 (my
guesstimate), but no doubt would have drawn more had it been held in a larger
room and promoted in Norway. Nevertheless it was exciting to watch as the
judges carefully inspected each facial hair that passed before it. The judges
included several members of the Whisker Club from Bremerton, Washington, and
also Tommy Roe, wife of Whisker Club president Bruce Roe.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Lancaster in October, when we
will gather for the Nationals. We are working hard to make the Nationals a
truly world-class event. The stadium where the Nationals take place has seating
for 5500 and standing room for a least another 10,000 people.

"Une gueule sans moustache, ce n'est rien qu'un cul tout nu"
L'élection de la Moestasj van 't joer 2011 s'est déroulée dimanche dernier au coeur des Marolles à Bruxelles. C'est là que les zwanzeurs de tout poil s'étaient donné rendez-vous le temps d'une journée festive, où l'occasion était donnée d'arroser tout ce qui bouge, boire une bonne bière et porter avec fierté sa jolie moustache.
Avec le soleil qui a généreusement irradié la Place du Jeu de balle, les valeureux marolliens ont terminé la journée couqueback. Une Révolution de la Moustache qui a réuni les clubs de moustachus du royaume et de célèbres brusseleïrs, dont Toone, promu Moestasj Honoris Causa et dont l'hommage à sa grand-mère ("Il vaut mieux une petite qui frétille qu'une grosse qui roupille") fera bien rigoler l'assemblée.
Pour l'anecdote, l'Orde van de Brusselse Moestasje a décerné le titre de Moestasj van't joer 2011 à Francis Sterckx, qui l'a emporté d'une voix. Un titre qu'il doit certainement au fait qu'il ait "un peu plus de gueule" que ses adversaires. L'occasion était donnée aux peï de "Ma semaine à Bx" d'aller babbeler avec ces drôles de zinneke pour qui "Une gueule sans moustache, ce n'est rien qu'un cul tout nu". Astâblêêf.
De Orde van de Brusselse Moestasje heeft Francis Sterckx tot mooiste snor van Brussel verkozen. Dat gebeurde op het Vossenplein in de Marollen met veel zwans en in het Brussels.
Suske, de mooiste moestasje van t' joer 2011
Francis Sterckx mag zich voor een jaar lang de mooiste moestasje van Brussel noemen. De snor van deze Elsenaar won het, zondag 8 mei, van zes andere leden van de Orde van de Brusselse Moestasje.
Suske, zoals Francis wordt genoemd, was in 2007 een van de oprichters van de Orde en is nu verantwoordelijk voor het feestcomité. Vooral plezier hebben en feesten is belangrijk. Zo zie je de snorren op jaarmarkten, op de Zuidkermis en op andere Brusselse evenementen al dan niet in hun kleurrijk kostuum.
-Tien minuten dagelijks onderhoud- "Ik draag al heel lang een snor," zegt Suske. "Ik ben met het onderhoud ervan minstens tien minuten per dag bezig. Voor speciale gelegenheden ben ik soms een uur in de badkamer bezig met mijn snor."
Suske heeft zijn snor slechts één keer afgeschoren, ter gelegenheid van een play-backshow. Maar dat is niet voor herhaling vatbaar, zegt hij. "Mijn snor afscheren, dat zou als een amputatie aanvoelen. Die snor is een deel van mijn persoonlijkheid. Daarbij, moest ik mijn snor afscheren, dan zou ik de Orde moeten verlaten."
De Orde heeft burgemeester Thielemans als erevoorzitter en telt een dertigtal leden. Hun vast clublokaal is café Chez Marcel, op het Vossenplein. Je kan maar een keer in je leven verkozen worden tot mooiste moestasje van Brussel.
