There were some rumors about Selena Gomez also taking on this role. Here is what  Gossip Cop had to report.

Kristen Stewart is most frequently discussed for the fairy tale role, but now Selena Gomez has become part of the speculation, thanks to certain outlets.

So where does the production actuallystand?

Here’s what we know.

A source familiar with the Snow Whiteproject confirms to Gossip Cop that Stewart is “someone of interest” and currently on the studio’s list.

(Not surprising.)

As for Gomez, however, we’re told her name has not been in the mix at all, and that rumors about her auditioning for the role are inaccurate.

There have been no negotiations with anyone yet.

As of February 3rd, here is what Gossip Cop was reporting:

On Tuesday, Gossip Cop confirmed thatKristen Stewart was on Universal’s list for the title role in Snow White and the Huntsman.

At the time, Stewart was described to us as a “person of interest.”

Today, it appears that status has been elevated.

Sources close to the production tell Gossip Cop the Snow White role belongs to Stewart if the two sides can come to an agreement.

Again, nothing is finalized yet, but the Twilight star has been offered the role.

Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron are currently attached to the project. Rupert Sanders is directing.

So if Kristen does accept the part of Snow White, does she have what it takes to perform this role? Here is what LA Times had to say on the subject.

The hallmarks of the character, at least in the Brothers Grimm telling, is softness and vulnerability. Stewart has done vulnerability — sort of — in parts of the “Twilight” franchise. But her defining characteristic  has been toughness. Certainly that’s been a part of the non-”Twilight” roles she’s tackled, as hard-living rocker Joan Jett in “The Runaways” and as a troubled stripper in “Welcome to the Rileys.” Will her Goth aspects mesh with the softness of a princess?

In a way, the Stewart casting evokes a reversal of the Rooney Mara-Dragon Tattoo problem. There people were asking if an actress was too soft for the part; here you could ask if she’s too tough for it.

The new Snow White does reimagine the character as someone chained to the huntsman instead of set free by him, and, consequently, someone who must learn to fight her way out of trouble. Let’s hope, for K-Stew’s sake and ours, that means the part calls for more grit than it does soft smiles.

There is also some question as to whether Kristen will even be available to take on the role of Snow White. Here is what E Online is reporting.

While we haven’t heard any concrete plans for a start date, we’ve put in calls to Kristen’s rep to see if K-11 really is set to start filming June 6 as Hollywood Life reports.

Filming would be after Breaking Dawn wraps, but would interfere with Kristen playing Snow White, a role we think she would be perfect for.

Obviously we think K-11 would show Kristen’s acting ability more (playing a red haired “girl” in a film with tons of sex and violence) but we have to say, we’re still rooting for Snow White to win out, since Stewart’s rep said “she did not read for the part” of Lois Lane. Fewf!

The Twilight star is in negotiations to star in Snow White and the Huntsman, putting her on the road to topline the movie alongsideViggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron for Universal’s take on the fairy tale.

The deal is not done and could still fall apart, but both sides want it to happen.

Stewart is a name that Universal kept coming back to since acquiring the project. Still, it went through a series of screen tests with actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander. As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, Stewart was still being courted as late as last week, and Universal finally made an offer over the weekend.

Commercial helmer Rupert Sanders is making his directorial debut on the pic, which amps up the action quotient from the fairy tale and plays up the relationship between White and the Huntsman. In the new scenario, when she is banished and on the run by the evil queen (Theron), the Huntsman (Mortensen) takes her under his wing to protect her, and she becomes his protege, learning how to fight and defend herself.

I personally am hoping all can be worked out for Kristen to play this role. I think she has the acting ability and presence to pull it off! What do you think?
