Bericht van Centrum Menselijke Erfelijkheid - Center for Human Genetics
Op maandag 23 februari van 19h30-21h30 geeft Prof. Maarten Larmuseau een lezing "Het DNA-verhaal van Vlaanderen" in de reeks 'Lessen voor de XXIste eeuw'.

Genetica kende de laatste 60 jaar een enorme evolutie. Zo ook ondergaat de geschiedschrijving momenteel een ware genetische revolutie: oud-DNA uit archeologische resten en genoomgegevens van levenden met gedocumenteerde stambomen onthullen migraties, verwantschappen en pandemieën in het verleden - van Neanderthalers en jager-verzamelaars, via de eerste landbouwers en Merovingers tot de middeleeuwse verstedelijking. In Vlaanderen drukken vooral de vroege bronstijd en de vroege middeleeuwen hun stempel op het huidige genetisch landschap; Vikinginvallen en de Spaanse bezetting lieten amper sporen na. Tegelijk werpen diepe verwantschapslijnen nieuw licht op het intiem gedrag en partnerkeuze in de 19de eeuw.
