Van zondag 30 augustus 2015 tot en met maandag 07 september 2015 wordt in de parochie van St.-Gillis een noveen ter ere van St.-Gillis gebeden. Noveen komt van het latijnse woord Novena en zijn negen dagen dat men op een bijzondere wijze tot God (tot St-Gillis) bidt. In de parochiegemeenschap van Sint-Gillis is er een enthousiaste ploeg medewerkers die de bedevaart in goede banen leidt. De mensen worden er warm onthaald, het koor luistert de vieringen op, er zijn de verkopers van godsdienstige voorwerpen, de gebedsleiders en priesters, de mensen van de bloemen en versiering, … Kortom: er leeft wat in deze Tongerse wijk. De Kapel van Mulken is elke dag open tussen 10u. en 17u. Op zondag zijn de diensten en zegeningen in de kerk op Hasseltsesteenweg 109. Er zijn dan missen om 8.30 u. en 10 u. Lof om 17u.

Willen ze gezellig hun collegas in Duitsland bezoeken maar nog aan de grens en ter plekke aan de bedrijven worden ze goed omsingeld door de Duitse politie precies alsof het gansters of terroristen zijn.

Vereerd te Tongeren vanaf 1690… Reeds vanaf 1690 vervulde de kapel van Mulken zowel de functie van hofkapel van het kasteel van Betho als van bedevaartskapel. St-Gillis wordt aanbeden als beschermer tegen zenuwziekte, epilepsie, schrik, angst en als beschermer van kleine kinderen. Maar vooral zijn voorbeeldig leven spreken ons tegenwoordig aan. Ook op de dag van vandaag trekken er vele ouders naartoe om hun kinderen te laten zegenen. Iedereen is er van harte welkom.
St-Gillis… St-Gillis is geboren in 640. Op 24 jaar verloor hij beide ouders en hij verkocht dan ook al zijn bezittingen om zich te wijden aan God. Hij ging leven in een grot als kluizenaar in een bos bij Nîmes. Op zekere dag waren de hovelingen van Vamba (Flavius), koning van de West-Goten, op jacht en een hinde vluchtte naar de grot van St-Gillis. St-Gilllis wilde het dier beschermen en werd getroffen door een pijl. Ter compensatie van de geleden schade en uit bewondering voor zijn leven hielp de koning St-Gillis daar een klooster bouwen, waar nadien een bloeiende gemeenschap ontstond. St-Gillis was een man die God op de eerste plaats zette, iemand met grote naastenliefde en een nederig man. Na zijn dood gebeurden vele mirakels en hij werd hij beroemd in heel Frankrijk.

Un jour, ont été les courtisans de Vamba (Flavius), roi des Wisigoths, la chasse et un hinde s'enfuit de la grotte de St-Gillis. St-Gilllis voulait protéger l'animal et a été heurté par une flèche. Afin de compenser pour les dommages subis et d'admiration pour le roi St-Gillis sa vie a contribué aidée construire un monastère y, où une communauté florissante a été formée par la suite. St-Gillis est un homme qui a mis Dieu en premier lieu, une personne avec une grande charité et un homme humble. De nombreux miracles qui s'est passé après sa mort, et il fut il célèbre dans toute la France
