How do you react in these
situations? Someone's not doing okay. Do we shrug it off and feel
happy about the fact that it's their future that sucks? Should we
cry for the ones that are not doing well? Will that really make them
feel better, would that really make a difference?
It's man's nature to
feel empathy towards those who aren't doing so well. When I see a
homeless person on the streets, I feel for them. That doesn't mean
that I'm willing to give up the life I am living in order to make him
feel better. Another part of mankind's genuine design. We only care
about others if we do not hurt ourselves in the process. Does this
make us selfish? No, we just care for ourselves in another way than
we do for others.
Today was a day of mixed
feelings, the joy of spring resounded in the air. School was ending
and holidays were starting. Plans were being made, going out, having
fun, playing soccer with friends, all seems so well... Yet even on
these days, when everything seems to be A-Okay, there's people close
to us that aren't that fortunate. At around eleven, word was told
that he wasn't doing too well, explaining his absence for so long.
Someone who we knew and (most of ) us liked was fighting against
cancer. Silence filled a room
where once, about five minutes ago, the thought of vacation was
rejoicing.
A person who we all
liked would not be having a fun holiday with their family, wouldn't
even be doing those things we all take for granted in our lives.
After a minute of dazement, life just went on. Just like that, as if
it had never been said at all. Five minutes later, something that had
and will have such great influence on the life of another is
forgotten. I heard other people talking about what they would be
doing when they got out at one pm. All I could think of was the pain
he and his family will suffer. I can only hope the best for them, may
luck be on their side, may god have mercy on their soul. Fortuna
adiuvat fortes.
