The Ranch was hit by a wirlwind during the terrible storm from Thursday on Friday... trailer moved over 30 m to stop just above the barranco above the horses. The annexe building was just blown away: wooden beams, roof and all just lifted in the air to falll and be blown everywhere. Whatever was still stading at the reserve food for the horses, was now destroyed too.
Horses got a fright and broke out from their paddocks.
Chiki as the leader gathered them together watching over them and waiting for me in front of the house.
Sorry for the lack of pictures but we really had a terrible situation here and I needed to secure my animals in the first place after I brought Brenda Schollaert back to the airport.
Then it was time to do some emergency jobs. More is impossible as we still hav storms now and again.
Thanks Hedwig Hofhuys 4 your help !

Mausie was not using the leg anymore so Juan from Hospital Veterinario JG put her to sleep to be able to do some neurologic tests  and move everything without her being able to give any resist and took several RX.

All is ok ! He just adapted the medication and Mausie is using the leg again. Yeahhhhh super vet he is xxxx

Of course he cleaned the wound too ;)

Wie WhiteShark Rudi kende, zal hem nooit vergeten.

    Eva Servais, VZW Whispering Ranch

Phoenix, was brought in this morning at Hospital Veterinario JG by Peter Singh and Jean.

The neurologist Juan Manuel Griñan met them & Phoenix and did an anamnesis and tested in their presence the reactions of Phoenix using a mosquito (like pinching you) to check on nerves and muscles too.
As Phoenix was dehydrated and was not moving at all when he arrived, first thing was to make some tests before doing any MRI (like taken x-rays and an ultrasound of the heart).
First Phoenix underwent X-rays of his whole spine, organs & body.

Then Juan called for the heart specialist Jose Griñan who did an ultrasound of the heart and discovered an important heart enlargement.
After that, all internal organs were checked with the ultrasound...spleen, liver, etc...(results were given to Peter&Jean).
After Juan had checked all the previous blood results, he took a bloodsample because he thought there could be another problem and indeed... Phoenix tested poitive for Filarias in his blood.
Then Juan did a complete manual check like checking all the vertebra's, neck, thorax, lumbar and sacral area, spine and marrow were tested and were OK.

That is where a very special test could be done with a certain type of medication to see if it was indeed a nerve problem (apart from a muscle problem because of the muscle atrophy). Juan did the injection and we just had to wait a few minutes.

Of course, Phoenix was never alone, he had a whole team of people around him to take care of him and watch out for him.
Exactly 5 minutes after the injection, Juan stood up to watch the reaction in Phoenix... and yes... Phoenix started to move, lifting this head.
A few vets helped to get Phoenix in balance and helped to coordinate his movements. As you can see on the video, Phoenix started to walk. (PS. The salivating is a consequence of the medication). Phoenix was tested extensively and as all tests were negative for spine damage etc... and the injection confirmed he could walk, no MRI was necessary any more.

Peter and Jean were shown which medication to give for the next 2 weeks and the exact physio to do with Phoenix, meaning massage, extention and flexion of all legs and the exercise of standing up for 10 minutes 3 times a day.
In 2 weeks time they are expected back at the clinic with Phoenix, but Juan already wants an update in 3 days of the evolution and gave his email so Peter could contact him any time.
In the end, Juan worries more about the bad condition of Phoenix heart, then that he would walk again.
Phoenix was dehydrated although drinking all the time as Peter said.

Conclusion: Phoenix is a very old dog with severe arthritis, spondilyosis, has an important heart problem, was dehydrated and has atrophied muscles.
With the new medication, lots of chicken soup and the soft physio Juan prescribed without any ball or so, Phoenix should be walking at home as he did in the clinic very soon.

See you in 2 weeks Phoenix xxxxx

No matter what day it is, I need to work hard; But that is OK because I do it for the rescues in the first place.

So today Sunday we were up before the sun as we had a full day planned, and apart from the daily shores, routine and work, we had an appointment to go and get some firewood at a friends place high in the hills behind Jijona

So I drove up with a full load of horsemanure for his garden

and came back with a full load of wood to heat the house and make the rescuedogs happy

Some wood had a surprise for us... can you see the little buggers ?

And of course I gave the new good and thick protection gloves away this morning to my friend who had none... only to cut myself later with the chainsaw, archhhhh

If that wasn't enough at the end of the day, my car just broke down. I was hoping it was the battery but even with using another car and cables, my car did not want to start anymore...

Main thing is that I can heat the house as it is going to be a wet and very cold week over here, so thank you dear friend 4 sharing your wood with us and making sure our house will be warm !!!!

So Jorge was here again. Most of the boys are just loose when he trims them, others like to eat while he does it.

Only Punkie is fastened as Jorge needs to use a bistorie to cut the hoofkanker away.

I could buy what my rescue horses and dogs love the most as an "in between"

and I got a basket full of it... yeah

Yep just plain old bread, nothing healthier as a biscuit for them and great for their teeth too.

We also went to the neighbour where I had repeared the pools a few days ago (cemented them again), so doggies happy to pass the gate again to go and visit him

Ow yeah... once again I forgot I was cooking... this was once a 2 kg vegetables pot for a great soup...
I wonder how many pots I have left that aren t black yet

Waiting for a piece of old bread...

    So the story....

After Mausies OP the surgeon from JG told me: You must keep her quiet... let her just eat, sleep & rest, eat, sleep & rest, nothing else.
So that' s what I did, I kept her quiet, fed her close to her bed, gave her her medication and torched her and let her rest & sleep... and it all went just fine.

On Sunday afternoon we were expecting a visitor.

At a certain moment I got a message that the visitor was coming 2 hours earlier as expected and would arrive in about 20 minutes.
Well fine by me of course. I quickly got dressed properly and then I heard the other dogs outside barking and in the far I heard the bells of goats ringing.

So I said to myself: If those goats come at my fence when our visitor is arriving, I will not be able to open the gate or the goat's man's dogs will come in or mine will go out...
You see, these dogs are not really social when they meet rhe W.R.R. onces at the fence.

So to be on the safe side I decided to call the rescues home and get them into the house...
Meanwhile Mausie was just lying in her bed resting & sleeping.

Then I opened the front door and called the dogs who came down from the fence one by one.
Meanwhile I turned round on the spot to get them the dogcookies lying on the counter next to the door.

Cheyenne came in, Gipsy came in... and there was Boomer too (he'll do anything for a cookie)
I called once again for Tommy who was just standing in front of the house outside not being sure if he should enter (he prefers to stay outside instead of being locked up in the house).
But he was brave and jumped inside.
As I was holding the door, to close it, Tommy heard something, and in a fraction he turned round and jumped outside again, and in the next second ALL were outside. Yes  ALL !!!
All running a 100 miles an hour to the top to the fence at the street.

I yelled at myself, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, please don't, pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeee...noooooooooooooooooo

The dogs had hearded something I was not about the hear for a while, but they knew exactly when a car/bike is driving into the sandy road, even still a mile away.
I knew what was going to happen and was so scared...I could do nothing else then starting to run myself those 100 m up hill towards the dogs and... Mausie.
My knees hurted like crazy and I had no crutches with me... but I knew I had to run and run quick.

And by the time I reached the gate, a car arrived... and stopped in the middle of the road, about 50 m away from the gate.
With the window down and his dog on his knees, my visitor looked straight at me, then at Mausie, then me then Mausie... I saw the white in his eyes... ow my xxx

Without a word I knew exactly what he was thinking... with his eyes almost jumping out of his head, so shocked as he was from seeing Mausie jump and run and go through under Boomer to jump even higher then after.

The dogs felt my energy and stayed away from me.
I opened the automatic gate to let our visitor in with his car.

Eva, how is this possible... HOW CAN THIS BE ?????? he said in Spanish

I' m sure my head was as red as a balloon, and I just was shaking & laughing quitly from shame, to not cry. I asked, no I begged for mercy.

My visitor drove slowly down towards the house and the Whispering Ranch Rescue dogs ran behind him.

I wanted to pick up Mausie on her way down but she started to go the wrong way...
Oh my... the last thing I need is that she will fall 5 meters down going the other way...
So I quickly called Cheyenne back to me and once she saw Cheyenne, she followed her the right way.

But you think she would let me pick her up ?  No way ... she fooled me like a footballplayer would with a manoeuver and once past me ran like crazy downhill towards the car of my visitor.

I was completely flabbergasted... what do I say, what can I say ???

My visitor came out of his car, looked at me and said to his dog (sitting in his car): Mouriño, creo que Eva esta engañandonos.

I was shaking and ashamed, but could only keep laughing as I was on the verge of falling to pieces I think.
I tried to explain what happened, but I don 't think he heard me speaking.
He was just to preocupied with Mausie: Has visto como corre ? Como salta ? Has visto... Has visto ?????

Well in fact I had seen nothing as it all happened so quick and the dogs ran sooooo fast I could not follow them.

Anyways he wanted me to pick Mausie up to check her out. So I picked her up once she was inside and put her on the counter and he checked her leg.

Ow yeah... have you now captured who our visitor was on Sunday ???

Archhhhhhh yes the big boss of the vetclinic, the surgeon who operated on her on Friday... archhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I' m dying here and gained at least 10-15 years in about 10 minutes.

It was time as we had run out of food... normally we have enough reserve till march-april, but we were 2 truck loads short this year as they could not deliver us the needed amount of ballo and avena.
Apart from that we have an extra horse since March and these boys eat about a 95-100 bales a month or some 380-400 € worth.

So now we have for a month and hopefully the ballo will be early this year...

OK so we were in time at the vetclinic this morning... 1 last check up and then it was Mausies turn

After putting in all the pins then even went to take several Xrays just to be 110% sure everything was sitting perfectly

Although I was in the OP room and filmed the procedure, I won t put these pics up. Just this little part of a pic of the pins sticking out

After almost 2 hours all was finished and it was just a matter of waking up now.
Once driving home all dogs were happy to see us come back

And Mausie relaxed and hallucinated a bit because of the morfine...

    Siestatime close to Mausie

And while I m sitting at my desk, she is just lying next to me

So sorry... the first new info on this new page is bad news...
We just came home from the vetshospital, major problems in Mausies broken leg.
The surgeon at Hospital Veterinario JG has reserved all morning tomorrow for the new operation, opening it up again, putting new internal fixator in and outside fixator.
We have to start from zero...

Mausie is a damn unlucky girl !!!

So we were home just in time because the truck with the alfalfa for the horses arrived.

Later I suddenly had the urge to go back with Mausie to the clinic... I wanted to have a bloodcheck before the OP of tomorrow.

And as Boomer needed to have his monthly check in a few days, I just took him with us ... he had a echografy, and blood and urine were taken for the tests
