I ll update some blogs and do new ones !!
Omdat reiskriebels nooit volledig weg te krabben zijn, publish ik nog enkele nieuwe blogs over mijn reis. Het is voor mij heel gemakkelijk om nieuwe blogs te schrijven, want als je voor een jaar op reis gaat, kan je er ook een jaar over napraten. En ik merk dat ik nog 200 bezoekers krijg per maand!! Dus ik moet toch iets goed doen. Als je meer wil weten over een blog geef je maar een seintje!!
Craving for traveling and holidays are always there for me, that is why I ll post a few new blogs about my trip. Writing new blogs comes very easy cause when you're away for a year, you can talk about it for at least a year. I notice as well that I still get 200 visitors a month!! So I have an audience too. If you wish to know more about a blog, I ll hear it!!
Boracay zegt me niks wanneer ik het voor het eerst hoor, een toeristisch eiland in de Filipijnen. Dat klinkt direct als de reden om er niet heen te gaan in plaats van andersom. Het is eind November en het hoogseizoen in de Filipijnen komt eraan. De laatste plaats waar ik wil zijn tijdens het hoogseizoen, is de plaats waar iedere Zuid-Koreaan of Chinees naartoe wil gaan. Een eiland vol met luxueuze hotels, winkels, en heel veel volk. Beatriz en ik denken hetzelfde: No! Hier is de blog over hoe we uiteindelijk 1 week op Boracay vertoefd hebben.

Thin en Jonty zijn in Manila en we spreken af om samen op reis te gaan. Beatriz en ik hebben een free visa van 21 dagen, Thin en Jonty zijn gegaan voor de 2 maanden visa. Wij hebben minder tijd dan hen maar we gaan samen naar Puerto Galera. Daarna zien we wel waar we belanden.
De foto's die volgen zijn genomen tijdens het nemen van het openbaar transport onderweg naar Boracay. Het was niet simpel om er te komen!! Boracay is een ander eiland en we moeten een stuk van de RORO route volgen om daar te geraken. RORO betekent roll-on, roll-out, of boot op en boot af. Het gaat een lange dag worden.
Waarom hebben we beslist om toch naar Boracay te gaan? In Puerto Galera was het een grote verassing om zoveel ladyboys te zien. Maar voor ladyboys te zien ben ik niet naar de Filipijnen gekomen. En de volgende plek op de kaart is Boracay. We gaan zien wat het geeft en als het tegenvalt zijn we zo snel weg als we gekomen zijn.

We gaan van Puerto Galera naar Roxas met deze jeepney, in Roxas nemen we dan de boot naar Boracay.

Roxas. De boot heeft niet op ons gewacht en de volgende boot is om 4 uur in de morgen. We zitten vast in een havendorpje met 1 straat en niets te beleven. Behalve 1 luide karaokebar! Daarom drinken we onze San Miguel aan dit tafeltje in een winkel. Een hele onderneming is het om te reizen in de Filipijnen, en je mag zeker geen haast hebben. We kunnen er allemaal om lachen. Boracay zal maar beter de moeite waard zijn, anders pakken we direct het leuke openbare transport naar een betere plek.
Na een korte nacht komt de boot aan in Caticlan. Wat je ziet op deze foto is de baai van Caticlan en van hieruit ga je op een kleine boot naar Boracay. Caticlan is ook de stad waar je zou aankomen met het vliegtuig.
Mega suf, mààr 2 uur geslapen.
Boracay !! Hier veel bootverkeer met Chinezen en Zuid-Koreanen. Zij zijn met het vliegtuig van Manila gekomen, dat ben ik zeker. Boracay is ook heel goedkoop voor hen. Voor 130 euro kun je al in een 5 sterren verblijven. Om van 1 vd hotels op het strand te komen ga je langs de klif met een lift, nami private villa's. Daarvoor kom ik nog terug.

Na 1 week is ons comfortabel verblijf in Boracay voorbij, we hebben weinig tijd meer over in de Filipijnen. Anders bleven we zonder probleem nog een week. We gaan terug naar Manila maar nemen deze keer een andere weg, via Romblon. Daar zou de tijd stil hebben gestaan...

In Jogja, zet je vast voor Java !! // Get ready for Java !!
Yesterday I arrived from Bali in Java and I show you our first pictures !! Java is a place I always wanted to go even if it isonly for its inspiring name. I am in Jogjakarta, the biggest cultural city of Java. If Jakarta rules over all Java's money, then Jogjakarta is the city where the Javanese painters, musicians and dancers live. I haven't seen much yet but here is an impression on Java.
Gisteren ben ik van Bali in Java aangekomen en ik toon je mijn eerste foto's!! Java is altijd een plaats geweest die ik wilde zien, al is het maar voor zijn naam!! En ik ben in Jogjakarta, de culturele stad van Java. Als Jakarta het financiele centrum is, dan is Jogjakarta de stad waar de Javanese schilders, muzikanten en dansers wonen. Ik heb nog niet veel gezien maar hier is een impressie van Java.

These local students like a picture too. Jogja holds many art universities and many students walk around with a big camera. We take pictures of them, and they take pictures of us.
What can I say ?? It's pure art.
Beatriz is getting some guiding on the local bird market. Not without intentions!! The man showed us around for an hour or so, and eventually we arrived at his house where he has an art gallery. And he wants to sell us his batik paintings. He made a lot of effort and the Javanese batik is fantastic, but too bad for him we are not buying. And he was the 3rd guy that day with this trick so we know what is going on in Jogja.

A quick picture from an art gallery, quick because it is not allowed. The batik paintings are fantastic handwork !! The artist uses wax and natural colours on a cotton or silk surface.
Java is very known for puppet shows. This puppet is carved out of a roll of buffalo skin, then painted with natural colours. The green comes from the papaya leaf, the white from a buffalo horn, and the black from some stone. Really impressive handwork.

Intramuros, the Spanish quarter in Manila, and Vigan City, the most Spanish city in South-East Asia.
I am in San Juan, North Luzon province and thinking back of Manila and Vigan City. On these pictures you see Manila and Vigan City. Vigan City is very north, and we don't have much time left in the Philippines because we fly tomorrow to KK, however it is a very nice place and worth the trip. Manila we visited in 1 day. See for yourself whether you would like Manila and Vigan City. This afternoon I will go surfing and that will be it for the today!
Ik ben in San Juan, de provincie Noord Luzon en ik denk terug aan Manila en Vigan City. Op de foto's zie je Manila en Vigan City. Vigan City is helemaal in het noorden, en we hebben niet veel tijd meer in de Filippijnen want we vliegen morgen naar KK, maar het is de moeite. Manila hebben we in 1 dag gedaan. Kijk of het Manila en Vigan City je zouden bevallen. Deze middag ga ik surfen en dat is het voor vandaag!

In Manila voor Intramuros, vanavond neem ik de bus naar Vigan. Vigan is de meest Spaanse stad in de Filippijnen.
In Manila for Intramuros, tonight I take the bus to Vigan. Vigan is supposed to be the most Spanish city in the Philippines. In the picture you see Intramuros in Manila. Very Spanish as well! There is something about Spanish that I like! Beatriz likes it too, we met people that still speak a bit of Spanish.
In Romblon, it's a taste of the real Filipinas. // ..., hier is de echte Filipinas.
Kerstmis hangt in de lucht. Het zal 2000 jaar geleden zijn, en het betekent voor iedereen iets anders, Kerstmis komt eraan, ook in de Filippijnen. Dat betekent hoofdbrekende vragen. Kerstmis betekent cadeaus kopen voor mensen die je graag hebt - en niet graag hebt - voor wie koop je en hoeveel gaat dat allemaal kosten, wat gaat hij en zij doen op Kerstavond ?? De hele commotie mag voor jou misschien zo snel mogelijk gedaan zijn, leve januari en een skireis in het voorjaar!! Een skireis is altijd geestig.
Het mag zijn wat het is, ik ben op reis, en behalve dat ik in Borneo zal zijn voor eindejaar, blijven diezelfde kerstvragen in mijn hoofd spoken. Dat had ik nooit durven denken! Ik ben er niet maar ik wil alles weten. Ik bespaar je al mijn vragen, behalve deze: 'Wat doe jij met Kerst en nieuw en ga je voor mij een cadeau kopen ?!?' Het mag goedkoop en onbruikbaar zijn, dat vind ik niet erg. Als het maar in mijn rugzak past!
Ik wens je een goeie eindejaarsvragen en veel kerstmarkt plezier op de markt, ik ben in Romblon,
Christmas is coming. It has been 2000 years, and it must mean something to most of us, Christmas is coming, and also in the Philippines. And it means aching questions. Christmas is buying present for people that you like - and don't like - for who do you buy and how much will I spend this time, what will he and she doe on Christmas eve ?? The whole thing can pass for you as quickly as it comes, welcome to january and the next skiing trip!! I envy you if it is a ski-trip.
It is what it is, I am traveling, and except that I will be in Borneo for the end of the year, the christmasquestions are keeping my busy. I couldn't have dreamt this! I am not there and still I want to know everything. I save you all my questions, except for this one maybe:: 'What are you doing for Christmas and will you buy me a present ?!? It can be cheap and useless, no worries, if it is only small enough to fit my backpack!

De Filippijnen komt veel in het nieuws, en waar zijn we, in de Filippijnen natuurlijk !!
Deze week is er een massagraf gevonden in het zuiden van het land. Het motief van de daders is politiek, er zijn verkiezingen volgend jaar, en hun moorden zijn gruwelijk. Het is een verzet tegen huidige machtsverhoudingen - en als ik het goed gelezen heb in de krant - hebben ze de vrouwen eerst misbruikt en dan vermoord. Enkele slachtoffers zijn dochters van de vice burgemeerster van een stad in Mindanao. Gruwelijk is het !!
Beatriz en ik zijn in Boracay eiland. Boracay ligt in het midden van de Filippijnen, en het staat zo dwars tegenover de politieke instabiliteit van Mindanao, in het zuiden. We zijn hier veilig en ver van het politiek gevaar. Ik volg eerder het weerbericht, en dat ziet er voor de volgende 5 dagen - het maximum aantal dagen van een weersvoorspelling - probleemloos uit. Het regende gisteren en vandaag is het bewolkt, maar geen stormen!! Hopelijk krijgen we nog zon op het paradijs van Boracay.
The Philippines has been a lot in the headlines recently, and where are we, in the Philippines !!
This week a massgrave is found in the south of the country. The motive of the killers is political, there is election fever in the Philippines, and their murders are absolutely horrible. They are a resistance against the current powers - and if I read it well in the paper - they abused the female victims and then murdered them. Some victims are daughters of the vice mayor of a city in Mindanao. Horrible it is !!
Beatriz and me are in Boracay island. Boracay is in the middle of the Philippines, en it is the absolute opposite of the political turmoil of Mindanao, the south let's say. We are safe here and far from the political danger there. I more follow the weatherforecast, and the Philippines look excellent for the next 5 days - 5 days is the maximum of forecasting otherwise I would do more. It rained yesterday, and today it is cloudy, but no storms!! Hopefully we see some sun on our paradise that is Boracay.

16.09.09. Half-Round the world in 1 year / Kick off. 9th of April 2009, Mumbai, India’s biggest city, is our best destination to take the train south to Goa, Kerala and Bangalore. From there we go 4,000 km by train back to north India, see Karnataka, Rajasthan, the Taj Mahal, Varanasi and Nepal. In Nepal we do small treks in the Himalayas and visit Kathmandu. Over de friendship highway, the route goes from Kathmandu to Lhasa by jeep, maximum altitude 5250m and we get to see the Mount Everest. In Lhasa we take the train through China, see the Terracotta warriors in Xi'an, and go 3,500m north to enter Mongolia and arrive in Ulan Bator. In Mongolia we camp in the Khovsgol area near the Russian Siberia, and renew the Chinese Visa to go back south. The clock says 4 months when we trained through China and see Yunnan, South China with its wonderful terraced rice fields. We enter the tropics and after 6 months travels we are in Vietnam. 2 months after that, we should have seen Angkor, the beaches in Thailand & Maleysia ...<e.d. 25.10.09. There is a change of plan after Angkor: we fly from Bangkok to Manila, we go to the Philippines!!> and on a ferry to Indonesia. From either Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, we find our way to Sydney and work for 3 months. We will have traveled for 1 year when we are in Oz and ... and ... and ... that is how far we planned. But we were supposed to come back in 1 year but we are only half around the world. Beatriz and myself love Asia!! So much for planning ahead and scheduling. Let's just see how we get on and the more exciting our trip will be. Wish us good luck on the trip!!
