RUN, BONG-GU, RUN! - Byun Byung Jun
RUN, BONG-GU, RUN!
Byun Byung Jun
Off the train in the middle of winter at the station in Seoul, Bong-gu
and his mother bring a little spring time warmth to the capital.
Theyre from a poor isolated area but on the beautiful sea. Shes
looking for her kids dad who left without a trace. An old man meets
the kid and actually remembers seeing his dad. He manages to bring them
together. Dad had dreams coming from the country, hitting the big city.
They didnt quite work out. He had become too ashamed to show himself
again. From desperation, the outcome of this story, however, will bring
warmth to any heart, showing that the hope and love of humanity can
even melt the cold indifference of our urban societies. A beautifully,
poetically illustrated little manhwa lit.
Last Gasp omschrijft haar boek als volgt:
This large, lavishly produced hardcover serves as the catalog for Camille Rose Garcia's first solo museum show outside of Los Angeles. Tragic Kingdom surveys her work with an emphasis on her most recent creations, showcasing paintings, drawings, sketchbooks, prints, and more. Garcia is a notable member of a Los Angeles underground contemporary art movement known as the "Pop Surrealists" or "Lowbrow" artists, who combine dark surrealism with an eclectic array of pop culture sources, including comics, animation, and 1950s television. In this collection she draws upon diverse artistic and cultural sources, such as the work of her former teacher Paul McCarthy, illustrations by nineteenth-century artist Aubrey Beardsley, myths and fairy tales, and Japanese art, specifically traditional woodblock prints and the anime inspired work of Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. From these references, she has crafted both a style that is unique and content that is a good deal more political than the work of her contemporaries.

After
the INFINITE CRISIS, the DCU spent a year without Superman, Batman and
Wonder Woman - a year in which those heroes were needed more than ever
as the fate of the world hung in the balance. Don't miss the first of a
four-volume collection featuring the lead stories from 52 WEEK 1-13 of
the unprecedented, critically acclaimed weekly series of death, danger,
romance, terror and the never-ending search for heroism in the DC
Universe's most eventful year ever. 52: A year without Superman; a year
without Batman; a year without Wonder Woman but not a year without
heroes.

Meet the original antihero Joe Matt: a master of a domain that includes
more than twenty-three self-edited eight-hour-long videotapes of
bootlegged pornography; a penny-pincher who never fails to make a dime
off his friends; a chronic masturbator who doesn t understand why he
never has a girlfriend; an obsessive collector frantically searching
for the toys of his childhood; a callous son who throws out every gift
his adoring mother gives him; a man so lazy that he urinates in a
bottle rather than walk to the bathroom. Everyone
and everything is fodder for Matt s autobiographical comics, even
having lost the love of his life for documenting his crush on her best
friend in the pages of his legendary comic book series "Peepshow,"
Matt s biggest target for ridicule, however, is himself.Wearing his
neuroses and fetishes on his sleeve, he knows he is a jerk and does
nothing to hide it. This humiliating honesty has made Matt a comedic
genius who has been hilariously and shamelessly chronicling his
pathetic existence for close to twenty years.
