Take care of the little things in life and the big things will take care of themselves.
Okay, so I made a list so as not to forget anything.
First item. Why have these messages been so short? Because I didn't have enough adventures yet. Well, actually, I did, but I didn't have a blog back then, and I'm too lazy to remember and type it all out. Pityyy.
Second item. Why is the picture so small? Because bloggen.be made it smaller. All pictures will magically get big again if you clickety-click on them.
Third item. We've got LINKS, oh yes. Visit them, because each and every one of them belongs to the coolest people in Flander's under the age of 25. The URL to Superman's successors can be found under 'YFU'. It's a cover, I think. Or steroid-abuse. It's all the explanation I can find for getting that much work done in less than a year for so many people: those leaving, those coming back, those coming here and those somewhere else. On second thought, you can't even do it all that with drugs. Superman was a busy guy, too.
Fourth item. Note to me: find yourself a pristinely empty notebook or finish your half-finished project before you leave for Norway. Thanks.
Fifth item. My classmates want cards. Snail mail cards. To all classmates (and other people) who are serious about it: I'll happily send them to everyone of whom I effectively *have* a snail mail *address*. At the moment, that's anyone living with me and blood-relations, so I'll be checking for e-mails containing mail addresses.
Sixth item. If my monetary budget for August is threatening to be consumed by school books and post cards, the cards will be moved to September and October. One of my few realistic goals in life is trying to eat at least one ice cream in every place abroad where I'm staying for a while. Sometimes, I appreciate the small things in life. XP
Seventh item. I still don't have a host family. (T_T) YFU Flanders is STILL looking for host families and still needs about a dozen of them before Agust 15th (or somewhere around that time). Those who feel te need to house (another) rascal for 4 or 11 months, the link to the website is the bottommost link. 'Gastgezin' is the link you're looking for. 'Word nu gastgezin!' is on your right, doubly underlined. Sometimes, I'm sooo helpful.
Eighth item. I'm getting a baby sister. >.> Well, an exchange student baby sister. Her name's Asuka and she's arriving in Belgium on the 8th of August. She lives in Japan in a region that I always forget the name of. She's 11 months younger than me and goes to something reminiscent of Belgian TSO. She's interrupting her school year (it starts in springtime in Japan) to go to school in Belgium for a year. o.0;;;; She wants to go to the same school as my biological sister. It's rather hard to explain how the first two years (where you have my sister) of the school are at Bekaf and the four other years (where Asu would end up) are a kilometer further off, at Schaluin, and the two don't really ever meet each other. Mama wants to send her to the Damiaan Instute (My brother's old school, and mostly TSO), to Industrial Science, because Asuka wants to become an engineer. And because my mom's a teacher and thinks children shouldn't stray too far away from the subjects they still have to finish in 2009-2010. And, if she'd really rather go to ASO, my mom (okay, me, too, and I've tried both SJCA and SMA) would rather Asuka goes to my old school. Why? Because while Sancta Mie might not be the most upper-crusty, big-headed school in town, it has a teaching staff that would practically crawl over broken glass to help when you're having trouble. First lesson on my homeland: we're Belgian and we like to play it safe.
Ninth item. News flash on li'll ol' me: I've got the flu and my first ever summer job is starting tomorrow. The latter is in Antwerp, literally smack-dab next to central station and for some reason, the signing of my contract has been placed fifteen minutes earlier. So for the moment, the two main chemicals in my system are adrenaline and Afebryl. Behold the reason why there will be a suspicious lack of updates for the following days to weeks. On a more upbeat note: I've finally gotten my flight information en am leaving on the evening of August 13th in Brussels, together with Kathleen. In my letter from Norway it told us to wear our TFU T-shirts, so we'd be recognised. Mine is a deep, navy blue, so I'm having trouble seeing how that makes us more recognisable than, for example, my neon green rain coat, but that's probably just me. Apparently, we also have to be in Norway later: previously, our designated time of arrival in boot camp introduction camp was August 12th. And strangely enough, I'm still not worried.
... Yeah, that was about it. ^^ On to making my check list.
Okelidokeli, mensen!
First Message (This message reaches you in English thanks to: Elly)
Okay, so today I got word that I passed my last year of secondary school.Unless I get kidnapped by aliens, nothing is stopping me anymore from leaving for Norway this August with YFU and my planeal buddy Kathleen. Here, you'll find my adventures, musings and complaints to life in general while I'm there.
To any and all nitpickers wondering about the name of the blog: the idea is that there will only be messages here explaining that there is no decent post today because I had too much of a kick-ass time to spend the entire day trying to compose one.
Nu is uw blog bijna aangemaakt.
