The CPFA has recently revamped their website to make it more user friendly. They have also uploaded a Pigeons in Canada video that helps promote our hobby to non-fanciers. Additionally, the CPFA has updated their newsletter to a professional format (full colour), which I find very impressive. The CPFA also provides a yearly calendar (full colour) for CPFA members. They do make this calendar available for sale, which you can order through the CPFA band secretary.
The latest news from the CPFA is that they have formed a discussion group for their members, I have more information about this in this newsletter. Richmond, B.C. - Last month Abraham Alizadeh pleaded guilty in Richmond provincial court to illegally importing four pigeons from Iran and was fined $250. In imposing the light sentence the judge noted that Alizadeh had taken the precaution of having the birds checked by a veterinarian prior to bringing them to Canada. Rather than having the pigeons destroyed Alizadeh paid the $800 cost to have the birds shipped back to Iran.
Winnipeg, Manitoba. - Local pigeon racers successfully defended their sport in Winnipeg City Hall last month. In January the city's board of adjustment approved Robert Madlansakay's request to maintain a backyard loft for his 30 racing homers. But four residents appealed the decision saying the birds routinely fly over their yards leaving excrement causing a smell and raising concerns they could spread disease. Madlansakay and the other local pigeon racers argued most people don't understand the sport and confuse their birds with feral pigeons. The Council denied the appeal and allowed Madlansakay to continue raising the pigeons in his backyard.
Konya, Turkey - "Taklaci Irk Kuslai Dernegi" loosely translated as the Association for the Protection of Tumbling Breed Birds is a pigeon club in Turkey that for the last three years has owned and operated a coffee house and pigeon hotel. The coffee house serves as a meeting place for club members, many of whom come regularly to socialize, and the pigeon hotel is used to house birds while their owners are away on vacation or business. The association maintains the pigeon hotel at no cost to club members although they must provide food for their birds while they are away.
Las Vegas, Nevada - Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson's television show on pigeon racing "Taking on Tyson" has turned into a dispute between PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and the American Racing Pigeon Union. Since the show started PETA has made news statements stating that pigeon racing is inhumane and has protested outside Tyson's residence in Las Vegas. The ARPU has argued that PETA is wrong and that the health of racing pigeons is paramount to the sport. "Taking on Tyson" airs at 8 pm Sunday on Animal Planet channel.
Abbotsford, B.C. - Livestock thefts in the Langley/Abbotsford area continued on March 23 with two separate incidents in which farmers lost a total of 23 lambs in Langley. The thefts started in December 2010 when 17 ducks went missing, followed by 6 ducks and 65 chickens in February. In Abbotsford a total of 17 goats were stolen from 4 farms in February along with 4000 pigeons from 3 other farms. Abbotsford police have assigned an officer to livestock thefts and say while no charges have been laid they have some leads , especially in the "pigeon scenario".

Over een grandioos geslaagd virtueel sierduivenkampioenschap kunt u in dit laatste nummer van Aviculture Europe alles lezen. En natuurlijk over het aantal stemmers en de trotse winnaars. De redactie bedankt haar lezers. Er is hiermee weer een bewijs geleverd dat Aviculture Europe leeft, zoals we ons dat hadden voorgesteld. Een internationaal laagdrempelig platform van verenvrienden, die daar wereldwijd en veelal ongevraagd hun bijdrage aan verlenen. Het blad is gratis, belangeloos, onafhankelijk en met meer dan 100 paginas aan interessante artikelen.
Dit is inmiddels een onverwoestbare formule gebleken, maar ondertussen stellen we vast dat het altijd nog beter kan. We wijzen u dan ook nogmaals op de promotiemogelijkheden voor verenigingen, speciaalclubs en tentoonstellingen van gevederde kleindieren, zoals sierduiven, sier- en watervogels en hoenders.
Wij gaan echter niet meer zo veel op pad om het nieuws bij u te halen, dus gelieve zelf uw showfoto's, verslag van Clubdagen of bijzondere verenigingsactiviteiten naar de redactie te sturen. Dat kan op redactie@aviculture-europe.nl waar u ook terecht kunt met uw vragen over plaatsingsmogelijkheid en -datum.
Realiseert u zich dat er gemiddeld tussen de 500 en 1.000 bezoekers per dag onze site bezoeken, dat is tussen 15.000 en 30.000 per maand. Zon publiciteit kan bijna niemand u bieden!

Poutre's life certainly deserves the attention you give it, and the care and respect you accord him is evident. You do an amazing job of capturing the subtle and tender feelings this man held for his birds. One can plainly see his wealth of admiration for his pigeons in his gentle and loving handling and in his expressive eyes. As your movie shows so well, the relationship between birds and humans is more complex than many of us will ever know, and our histories are surprisingly intertwined."

Dr. Guo Weicheng also known as "Great Wall". In recent years he became the biggest pigeon collector of exclusive pigeons in China. The first pigeon he bought on PIPA was a direct son of Old Supercrack in December 2005.
Great news for all van Loon fans... Nearly everybody knows the name Louis Van Loon simply because the man has raced extremely well in the middle distance and the extreme middle distance races in Belgium for years. Superior pigeon game for which he was shown the door in several clubs was simply excluded from the racing environment for being too strong, too dominant too superior for the competitors. Provincial and national victories brought the Van Loon colony international interest. Top performances which didnt escape the watchful eye of the outside world and sent many fanciers on a pilgrimage to Poppel looking for reinforcements, which they hoped to found, and indeed did find in the top class Louis Van Loon. In their continuous search for the greatest, for the absolute top, for the highest achievable the current grandmasters so as Gerard Koopman and Hans Eijerkamp & Sons also came to richly supply themselves in the Belgian Poppel and several Van Loon pigeons made the transfer to their home in the Netherlands with overwhelming success!

Le nouveau système de signalement des pigeons égarés mis en place par la RFCB ne semble pas donner satisfaction aux amateurs: Le n° ne répond pas - Tous les amateurs n'ont pas de gsm - Certains gsm sont inondés de messages sms et refusent dorénavant les sms - La messagerie automatique ne convient pas aux non colombophiles qui veulent signaler un pigeon - Aucune garantie n'est donnée par les sociétés de télécommunication quant au bon acheminement des sms - Certains reçoivent aujourd'hui des sms expédiés en juillet 2010 - Je n'ai pas de famille ou d'ami fiable qui a un gsm .... etc ... Ken Uw Kot 2011, morgen zondag 17/4 = Laatste Dag !
Hallo,
Voor Ken Uw Kot 2011 ontvingen we ondertussen al inschrijvingen uit o.a. Moerbeke, Pollare, Ham, Zelem, Munsterbilzen en Engsbergen, maar de uwe kan er zeker nog bij. Deadline is morgen zondag 17 april.
Inschrijven kan vanavond en morgenavond van 20 tot 22u in Café Brouwershuis, Dorpsplaats 3 in Boortmeerbeek of via mail aan ronvanbel@telenet.be.
Over jonge duiven gesproken! Deze trainen behoorlijk goed. Het is alleen opletten geblazen met ziektes ,we zijn dan ook erg streng en dagelijks wordt alles goed in de gaten gehouden en ingegrepen indien nodig. Nog steeds komt er regelmatig pichones in het water en kreeg alles een kuur voor paratyfus. Door het warme weer merkten we op , dat enkele jonge duiven met de bek open vlogen. Een controle leverde niks op ,toen we ze inde hand namen was het ons snel duidelijk. Ze zaten iets aan de vette kant. Ze kregen ook nog steeds kweek mengeling. Iets te veel eiwitten die omgezet werden naar buikvet! Vanaf nu staat er daarom 1/3zuivering op het menu. Wel voldoende zodat ze goed blijven trainen maar langzaam moet dat buikvet verdwijnen, de konditie verbeteren. Ook geef ik ze wat ecuchol op het voer samen met zeewier poeder. Een kwestie van de lever aan het werk te zetten. Top moeten jonge duiven nu nog niet zijn maar toch mogen we langzaam gaan beginnen aan konditie training. Onze nieuwe website is bijna klaar. We gaan enkele dagen met vrouw en dochter op verlof en dan maken we fotos van alle duiven en komt onze site online. Nog even geduld en jullie kunnen jullie toekomstige toppers bewonderen of kiezen. Maar eerst even de batterijen opladen, het seizoen is nog lang weet je!
Beste mijnheer deckers, Alles groeit en bloeit. Niet alleen wij mensen, maar ook onze huisdieren genieten van de eerste warme zonnestralen. Of het nu gaat om een veilige strooptocht in de vrije natuur of spannende activiteiten in de tuin: voor honden, katten en co wordt het met onze tips een opwindend voorjaar.
