I stayed together with Marianne Gäler in your hotel from Saturday 24th to Sunday 25th Feb, in the room Tamba (above the kitchen). We were not alone there: there was a three cm cockroach in this room.
What do you think about hygiene conditions??? We chosed your hotel because it is mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide, I think they would not recommend it if they get to know this.
I could not talk to you personnally because we had to leave to the airport in the evening, so Sbadji (?) gave me your email address.

Thank you for your e-mail.
I do understand that you were not happy to find a cockroach in your room and I do apologise for it. I can however guarantee that we respect all hygienic conditions as required by the Senegalese government. All facilities are cleaned daily and the kitchen is cleaned after every shift (three times a day). I have been working in the Via Via for five months now and I have not had one single customer who was ill as a result of bad hygiene.
Unfortunately, we cannot control the conditions in the house of our neighbours and therefore we cannot stop certain animals from entering into our facilities.
Nevertheless, we do realise that this should be avoided at all costs. Therefore, we are investing in the restoration of the old building. All rooms, the kitchen, the bar and the restaurant are being renovated. Thus, conditions should improve and visits by unwanted guests will be reduced to a minimum.
I hope you understand that we try to serve our customers as good as we can and I hope to meet you again one day and serve you better than last time.
