Welcome to Sotje62 ! My blog intends to make the world a smaller place. China; Yunnan - Tiger Leaping Gorge

In het zuiden van China hebben we de beklimming van de tijger springende kloof gedaan. De tijger springende kloof is een hoog gebergte die doorkruisd wordt door de Yangtze rivier en die je in 2 dagen kunt beklimmen. Dat is op maat gesneden voor Beatriz en ik !! Het leent zijn naam van een legende van, hoe raad je het, een tijger. Die tijger zou van de ene kant van Yangtze naar de andere gesprongen hebben. Of het waar is weet ik niet, ik was gewoon gelukkig dat ik geen tijger tegengekomen ben tijdens onze 2-daagse. In deze blog zie je de foto's.

We hebben deze beklimming gedaan met 2 Poolse doktor studenten, dus als je de mensen in de foto's niet herkent, het zijn de fantastische Izabela en Pavel van Krakow.

In the South of China we climbed the tiger leaping gorge. The tiger leaping gorge is a mountain range where the Yangtze river crosses through. You can do it in 2 days so perfect for us because we don't need more excercise than that. The name - the tiger leaping gorge - comes from a legend that describes a tiger having leaped from one side of the Yangtze to the other. Like all legends nobody can tell if it is true, the only thing I know is that I was happy not to see any tigers on the way. :-) In this blog you see the pics.

We climbed the gorge with 2 Polish Phd students, so the people that you don't recognize, are the fantastic Izabela and Pavel from Krakow.

Tea horse guest-house. In deze herberg bleven we de eerste nacht. De herberg is op 2,500m en ze hebben bier, pizza en spaghetti op de menu. Je hebt een goeie ezel nodig om dat naar boven te dragen /// We stayed here the first night. The tea horse GH is at 2,500m high and they have beer, pizza and spaghetti on the menu. You need a good animal to bring that food up the mountain.

De Yulong sneeuwberg. Als je goed kijkt zie je een regenboog in de wolken. /// The Yulong snow mountain. You can see a rainbow in the clouds.

Dit waggelbruggetje was spannend om over te wandelen. // This is a tricky bridge to cross the waterfall.

Dit huis is op weg naar de top van de berg. De 2 Chinezen proberen ons een ezel te verhuren om het laatste stuk te doen. Izabela gaat ervoor (Daar heb is spijtig genoeg geen foto van) // This house is on the way to the top. These 2 Chinese guys try to rent us a mule to climb the last bit. Izabela falls for it (Too bad I don't have a pic of that)

Op de weg komen we een Yi-vrouw tegen die geld wil voor deze foto. Ik loop rap weg ! // On the way we come across a Yi-woman and she wants money for the picture. I am off !

Izabela en ik worden gevolgd door de gast met de ezel. Hij wil ons zijn ezel verhuren om naar boven te gaan. // Izabela and me followed by the mule-guy. He wants to rent us the mule to climb the mountain.

16.09.09. Half-Round the world in 1 year / Kick off. 9th of April 2009, Mumbai, India’s biggest city, is our best destination to take the train south to Goa, Kerala and Bangalore. From there we go 4,000 km by train back to north India, see Karnataka, Rajasthan, the Taj Mahal, Varanasi and Nepal. In Nepal we do small treks in the Himalayas and visit Kathmandu. Over de friendship highway, the route goes from Kathmandu to Lhasa by jeep, maximum altitude 5250m and we get to see the Mount Everest. In Lhasa we take the train through China, see the Terracotta warriors in Xi'an, and go 3,500m north to enter Mongolia and arrive in Ulan Bator. In Mongolia we camp in the Khovsgol area near the Russian Siberia, and renew the Chinese Visa to go back south. The clock says 4 months when we trained through China and see Yunnan, South China with its wonderful terraced rice fields. We enter the tropics and after 6 months travels we are in Vietnam. 2 months after that, we should have seen Angkor, the beaches in Thailand & Maleysia ...<e.d. 25.10.09. There is a change of plan after Angkor: we fly from Bangkok to Manila, we go to the Philippines!!> and on a ferry to Indonesia. From either Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, we find our way to Sydney and work for 3 months. We will have traveled for 1 year when we are in Oz and ... and ... and ... that is how far we planned. But we were supposed to come back in 1 year but we are only half around the world. Beatriz and myself love Asia!! So much for planning ahead and scheduling. Let's just see how we get on and the more exciting our trip will be. Wish us good luck on the trip!!
