I’m afraid we have some very unfortunate news for you. We are disappointed tell you that we have been placed in a situation to have to cancel both (July and September) our upcoming Wild & Vital Volunteer Programs. 

 

There has been a very severe MRSA (also known as an antibiotic resistant superbug infection/flesh eating disease), going around. It is an outbreak that almost everyone at the camp has gotten, including two of our past volunteers during our last program. 

 

We thought we were in the clear, but this past weekend, we had a relapse. This is a very contagious and serious infection. It can become life threatening – we had a few close calls. We were hoping it would not come to this, but the decision has been made for everyone’s best interest and to avoid cancelling our next program right before, as we have had to do for our July program. At the moment, we are incapable of fulfilling our duties as hosts and do not want to risk getting any one else infected. 

 

We understand that a lot of planning has probably been done on your side and that you may face some charges for changing/cancelling flights. We do apologize for the short notice – it is out of our hands. 

 

We will give everyone a full program refund (within 3-4 weeks). Although we are not financially able to take on flight charges, we will offer you a 1-week guest stay free of charge (to be used within one year) for any inconvenience caused OR the chance to participate in a future volunteer program.

 

Again, we do apologize and share any disappointment you may be feeling towards not being able to participate in the program :(

 

If you should still come to Dominica, we hope to meet you in the future, when we have fully recovered from this horrible infection.
