Did you know that it is illegal to buy Kinder Surprise eggs in the USA?

The 1938 Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act bans food items with unvisible non-food items in them because kids could choke on the toys. The thing is that the toys in the eggs are concealed in a big, uneasly openable yellow capsule, and the package shows clearly not to give the eggs at children under three years.

When the border police finds the eggs, you can expect heafty fines running up to $2.500 per egg. contradicting is that in the USA you can buy guns in the local supermarket.

So guns are safer than a surprise egg? Time to rob a bank with an egg!

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Honey is a sweet, viscous food substance produced by honey bees. Bees produce honey from the sugary secretions of plants. Bees store honey in wax structures called honeycombs.

Because of its composition and chemical properties, honey is suitable for long-term storage and basically will never go bad. That is because in its natural state it is very acidic and bacteria wil die almost immediately.

The main uses of honey are in baking, coocking, desserts, as a spread on bread and it is also used i some beverages, such as tea.

Maybe you could eat honey that is centuries old. But I wouldn't try it.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Chocolate is a preparation of roasted and ground cacao seeds that can be made in liquid, paste or in a block. Chocolate is one of the most popular food types in the world, and many foodstuffs involving chocolate exist. Many candies are filled with sweetened chocolate. Chocolate is also used in beverages, such as chocolate milk.

Although chocolate originate in the Americas, West African countries are the leading producers of cocoa in the 21st century.

There are several types of chocolate.
Milk chocolate is a sweet chocolate that also contains milk. Milk chocolate must contain a minimum 20% - 25% of total dry cocoa solids.
Dark Chocolate is produced by adding fat and sugar to the cacao mixture. In Europe there has to be a minimum of 35% of cocoa solids. A higher amount of cocoa solids indicates more bitterness.
White chocolate isn't actually chocolate because there aren't any cocoa solids.

So next time someone says you shouldn't eat chocolate, you can just eat white chocolate because it isn't chocolate.

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen

Today, avocados are widespread. It looks like everybody eats them. why do people love this fruit so much and is it realy that healty and ecological?

Avocados are pearshaped fruits from Mexico. In Mexico they are used a lot in the kitchen to make for example Guacamole. recently they are very popular in the millenial kitchen. For a good reason: Avocado is packed with vitamins and minerals. The fruit is rich in vitamins B, C, E and K and contains a lot of magnesium, potassium, zinc and iron. avocados also contain a high number of saturated fats.

But there is a big downside: avocado's are an ecological dissaster: 1 000 liters are used to produce 2 and a half avocado's. Another problem is that huge parts of forests are chopped to make place for the plantations. And lastly the transport takes a long time and produces lots of exhaust gasses.

think about that the next time you eat avocados!

    Fun fact:

the word avocado is deriffed from the Aztec word āhuacatl wich means 'Testicle',

There's No Medical Reason Not to Bake Your Grandpa's Ashes into a Sugar Cookie and Eat It

It appears that a high school student in Davis, California, baked her grandfather's ashes into sugar cookies and gave them out at school on Oct. 4. Yes, people ate them. And, yes, this is a real news story. It was reported in the Los Angeles Times. Apparently, some of the sugar-cookie-eaters knew about the ashes in the sugar cookies before they ate the sugar cookies. Again, this is a real news story.

Sit with that for a moment.

It's probably a pretty good guess that most folks would agree that baking a dead person's ashes into sugar cookies and then feeding those crematory confections to teenagers is a bad thing to do.

It turns out that in some circumstances, this might not be much of a problem — at least in terms of making the cookie-eaters sick. (Whether it's an ethical problem is another issue.)

"Cremation essentially mineralizes the human body and produces ashes that are rich in carbon and not much of a health concern," Halden said.

So, the ash isn't toxic, and it's not like it would carry any diseases

That doesn't mean there are no possible dangers.

"The one potential concern worthy of consideration would be heavy metals, as can be found particularly in tooth fillings,"

But even that probably wouldn't pose a problem, because those materials are often removed from the ashes after cremation, and also because you'd need to consume a lot of them for them to pose a significant danger.

So, the verdict on eating sugar cookies with someone's grandfather's ashes in them from a purely health and safety perspective? It's probably no big deal.

But one of the teenagers who ate one of the cookies told the Los Angeles Times that the ashes looked like "tiny gray flecks" and had a texture of sand "crunching in between your teeth."

So, you know, maybe avoid that.
