A story for the orange class.
By Elodie Winant
Once upon a time, there was a Belgian student. She
really loved to teach the children. When she had to do her last practical, she
decided to go to The Gambia to teach English in the 5th grade of a
primary school. When she first got there, everything was very new and even a
little scary because it was totally different from Belgium.
Fortunately all the teachers were very kind and soon
she felt very good in the school.
She started her practical a week later. The teacher of
the 5th grade was a very nice man. He was really helpful and he made
her feel at ease in the class.
There were four boys and seven girls in her class. At
first she thought the boys were very stubborn but a little later it looked like
those boys could be really sweet and they were very intelligent too. She
believes that those boys can become anything they want and she wishes that they
will have a great life.
The girls were very different from each other. She
will never forget there was one girl who really made her feel at ease the first
day by saying: Dont mind the others, teacher. Just do what you want to do.
That girl was really nice and Im sure she will make a good journalist one day.
And then there was that girls best friend, a very
beautiful girl that liked to laugh. I can only hope she keeps that smile on her
face for the rest of her life. There were two other girls sitting in the same
row. They were very silent girls but really sweet. The Belgian student was
always very proud when she heard them reading. If they keep up the good work,
they will become the best readers.
One of the girls loved to cuddle. She would come and
give the student a hug or sit on her lap. She was also very talkative so
sometimes the student had to tell her to be quiet but shes going to miss the
sweet hugs.
There was a tall girl sitting next to her. She was
also very sweet. The Belgian student really believed in her and she hopes that
the girl herself will also start believing in herself cause shes worth it.
And the last girl was a very bright girl. She was a
hard worker and she always cooperated in class. The only thing she has to learn
is to have more faith in herself cause she is really smart.
The Belgian student was in The Gambia for ten weeks
and she really had the time of her life!
When the time came to say goodbye, she absolutely did
not want to go and she was very sad because she had to leave all these lovely
people who made her stay in The Gambia an experience for life.
She wished them all the best and made a promise never
to forget them. She told them, she would miss them very much and often think
about them when she was back in Belgium.
And she wishes that they would grow up to become
people she really can be proud of.
En dit kreeg ik als antwoord:
Farewell- song
From the orange class
We say goodbye to you,
We wish you all well,
As you pass from this place,
We are wishing you all in spirit.
Though we say goodbye, its not our
Final bye-bye, for we hope to meet together,
Again elsewhere.
Elodie is going
Going to leave us alone,
Not for sorrow but for joy,
For her future career.
Although you are going to leave us,
Remember each and everyone of us.
Remember the orange class and remember teacher Ebra.
