Nog een dag in Dipolog.. hoe langer ik hier ben. hoe meer ik ontdek hoeveel er hier te zien is en hoeveel er hier te beleven valt. Zal hier zeker nog een keer terugkeren. Ben vandaag naar Dapitan geweest, een 10-tal kilomter hiervandaan. Kleiner dan Dipolog, en eigenlijk plezanter om te bezoeken. Wat daar zeker de moeite waard is om te bezoeken is het Dakak strand, waar zich het Dakak Beach Resort bevindt. Een prachtig resort, een beetje aan de dure kant. Maar duur is hier relatief. want een nacht in een van hun bungalows kun je al hebben voor 80 euro per nacht en er zijn natuurlijk speciale prijzen voor diegenen die voor langere tijd boeken. Deze morgen had ik ook al Santo Nino Elementary schooltje bezocht... morgenmiddag ga ik terug, maar dan gewapend met 250 cheeseburgers en 250 cola`s ... het zal een drukke voormiddag zijn.
Another day in Dipolog.. . the place seems to grow on me, the longer time I spent in this town. the more I like it. Once you find your way in this bustling city, it is quit pleasant to pass the time. But of course I have to admit that every place I ever go to, seems to grow on me sooner or later.. Today I went to Dapitan, using the Goodyear busservice. Only 20 pesos, so a lot cheaper then going by tricycle or hubel hubel. In Dapitan I went straight to the Dakak Beach Resort, and that was a nice surprise to say the least. For those who want to indulge in some luxury, this is defenitely the place to be.. and the prices are actually quit affordable, 4.000 pesos a night, and in return you get stunning views on the bay, a white sandy beach, two large swimming pools, a fine restaurant... and the resort is placed in the midst of a large park, where you can have some nice walks as well. A place to return to. This morning I finally could contact one of the teachers of the Santo Nino Elementary school... after a brief visit this morning I promised to get back the next day, but armed with 250 cheeseburgers from Jollibee and 250 coke`s.. it will be an exciting day for all of us.
Het is ondertussen al woensdag denk ik... ik ben vandaag aangekomen in Dipolog-Dapitan, een stad in Zamboanga provincie. Ik heb vanuit Dumaguete city de Supercat genomen ( soort snelle veerboot ) en het duurde maar twee uur om hier te geraken. Mindanao heeft een beetje een slechte reputatie, maar toch zijn er heel veel gebieden die veilig zijn om te bezoekenen en door te reizen. Ik voel me alleszins op mijn gemak. Dapitan en Dipolog liggen heel dicht bij elkaar en het is een beetje verwarrend, en in begin weet je eigenlijk niet of je nu in de ene of in de andere stad bent. Maar ik logeer nu dus in Dipolog, en ik logeer in het Camilla 2 hotel. Een typisch business hotel, kamers zijn redelijk, maar een likje verf hier en daar zou geen kwaad doen. Ook Dipolog is een provinciestad zoals ik er al een paar gezien heb in Azie... heel druk, niet te veel auto`s maar des te meer tricycles en motorfietsen. Ik denk niet dat er al te veel toeristen deze kant uitkomen, maar toch is het eens de moeite waard dit te bezoeken. Morgen ga ik naar Dapitan, daar zou een prachtig strand zijn met dito resort. Eigenlijk ben ik naar hier gekomen om een schooltje te bezoeken, maar voorlopig kan ik geen contact opnemen met de persoon die me daar naartoe zou brengen. Hopelijk heb ik morgen meer geluk. Ik blijf hier normaal gezien tot vrijdag, en dan ga ik naar Cebu....
Just arrived in Dipolog-Dapitan... I think they must be twin cities, because I have been confused all day, never can tell for sure if I an in the one or the other city. I left Dumaguete this morning at 10am by supercat, which is probably the cheapest and best way to get from Negros to Dapitan, it takes only two hours and the price is 680 pesos. After arrival I checked into the Camilla 2 hotel, a comfortable business hotel, although some walls can use an new layer of fresh paint. But at a flat rate of 1200 pesos a night, breakfast included, you can`t be choosy. Dipolog is a typical provincial town, bustling and busy, and the noise and smell of tricycles is everywhere. I don`t see too many tourists here, but I probably see more foreigners tomorrow when I am going to visit Dapitan. There is a super nice beach there and a matching resort.. But my main goal to visit Dipolog was to visit a elementary school nearby, so I hope by tomorrow I will have contacted the person that can arrange a visit for me. I am planning to stay here untill Friday or Saturday and then I am on my way to Cebu... still have to see how I will get there, by supercat, superferry or plane.
Vandaag mijn eerste volle dag in Dumaguete.. ben een beetje lui vandaag, heb niet te goed geslapen deze nacht. Bedden zijn iets te zacht en er was natuurlijk een mug in mijn kamer die ik maar niet kon doodmeppen. Maar ik moet morgen toch van hotel veranderen omdat het dan volzet is, en ik heb zojuist een paar kamers bekeken in een paar andere hotels. Hotel Nicanor ziet er het beste uit, en voor slechts 20 euro per nacht, een koopje. Een beetje meer in het centrum van de stad, dus dit betekent kortere wandelingen naar restaurants en zo. Ik was van plan om vandaag naar de watervallen te gaan, maar het regent hier zonder stoppen. Ben dan maar naar het schooltje geweest ( San Jose Elementary ) waar ik ` iets ` moest afgeven ... dan lunch met enkele leerkrachten. Onderweg naar San Jose zie je wel hier en daar de gevolgen van de storm van vorige week, er is toch heel veel materiele schade. Voor de rest van de dag heb ik niet veel gepland, nog een wandeling door het stadje, daarna wat lezen, en als ik de moed vind leer ik nog wat Poolse werkwoorden, want ik heb mijn woordenlijst ook meegebracht.
Today was the first real day in Dumaguete City. Although I had hoped to visit the waterfalls this afternoon, the bad weather forced me to change my plans. It is raining on and off the whole day now. so I had little intrest in a two hour hike uphill. Add the fact that I didnt sleep too well thanks to a sleepless local mosquito, who proved to be very agile as well : couldn`t catch the annoying bug the whole night. So I visited the San Jose Elementary where I was supposed to deliver a package anyway. Afterwards I had lunch with some of the teachers, and now I am already back in Dumaguete. On the way back you notice how damaging this latest storm has been, and especially everything that stands next to the river banks has been badly damaged. Nothing much planned for today, but I`ll go back to my room later and continue to read my Grisham novel.
