This lesson was about the high and low cultures in our society. But what is the difference.

High context is that people know what they are doing for a long period, this means that those people have an idea from how they want to live and how they see their life in the future. The high context means that you are with others in a group that you know what you can do, this is more for family and friends.

Low context is people that always want to have a other connection but on a small period. The low context means that you are one of the others and that you all have the same understanding because there are rules , this more public, example: airport, the mall,...

We can conclude that the relationships are always different, every situation in your life has another structure. As a European teacher I have to be able to see differences between the cultures and find a way to approach and respond to them. Not only with pupils but also with parents, because in some cultures they have other habits, values, understandings.

The icebergmetaphor is a good theory to look, if u are on a boat, you know what is for u and you see it, but on a boat is the most important to look what is under your boat. This is a big secret. That part that we can see, is a culture ( T-shirt, hat,...). When the ship is near the iceberg, you are near a culture.

When you are entering a culture it means that we are curious to see what is in that culture, this can be dangerous. Below the ship there is a part that we don't know about the culture and this is for us a big question mark.

This blog is about the cultures in our country: Belgium.

We have the big different groups here, the flemings and the muslims. They all have a other opinion and the all have a other culture. But what is now the difference, it has to do with Logos en Mythos.

Logos says something about how something really is, with evidence. Like the water, water is H2O but it can't tell you more of it.

Mythos says something about how something is but not on a scientific level. Like the water, mythos can say that water comes from rain and that a sea exists from water.

In Belgium is this also the same, the logos are most of the time the muslims, they believe in things without knowing that it mabey can not be. Mythos are the flemings they need also a prove of it really exist and when it not exist they don't believe it.

This is my opinion how the people think here in Belgium, if you have a other opinion, just let me know!
