    Dear Michiel,

here is some information concerning your trip to Beirut:
First of all, I have to regret that I will not be in Beirut during the first few days of your stay. I have to attend a meeting in Florence from Saturday to Thursday next week. Nevertheless, everything is prepared for your arrival.
I will send a taxi to the airport to pick you up. The driver will be in the entrance hall of the airport with a sign 'Vanhecke'. He will bring you to your hotel (University Hotel), directly opposite the main entrance of the university (Main Gate, on Bliss Street).
My wife Bettina will get in touch with you (do you happen to have a mobile phoen? Please send me the number). Her number is: 00961-71-957467. She will show you the room where you will work and also give you the key to that room (important: do not loose that, as it is the only key I have for that room). Canan has already prepared things for you there.
Other people have also been notified of your arrival, and will help you in case of any problems: Dr. Helen Sager, the chairperson of our Department, and Amelie Beyhum, an archaeologist who is responsible for the storerooms. You can reach them from any telephone on campus (Dr. Sader: 4183; Amelie Beyhum: 4200).
Please collect all receipts (for taxis, food, etc.), as I need to hand them in.
In Lebanon you can pay everyhting in US Dollars, so bring a few for the taxi from the airport (approximately 20-25 US$). My wife will provide you with more money for your immediate expenses. Once I arrive, we will sort things out.
I look forward to finally meet you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

    Best wishes,

         Hermann

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen Mojo. Rbeiz building, Hamra Street
Established to promote live jazz and blues music in Lebanon. The idea behind the club, situated in the heart of Hamra Street, came from MUSIKUEST, a Lebanese booking agency that brought jazz and blues artists from the US to Lebanon since 2000. Mojo is the club that will continue bringing such artists to perform for the Lebanese public. It is EAST meets WEST when the visiting international artist is backed by resident artists to form a unique combination. It is the best performances of NYC jazz clubs moved into Lebanon for the Lebanese public to enjoy. Live music is the reason behind the existence of MOJO CLUB.

    Bar Louie. Gemmayze Gouraud Street
Live Music: 6  nights a week ranging from jazz, blues to soft rock and oriental by the best Lebanese bands and a d.j. night on Saturdays. Louie’s initial idea was to be a relaxing Jazz restaurant and pub serving diverse tapas with a Jazzy background, and a bunch of uniquely made cocktails… So to launch a News-Worthy opening in a ghost-like street, Bar Louie decided to import the Jazz Flutist (Nicole Mitchel from New York) which hit the Lebanese Jazz lovers in the deepest central vein making them love it and ask for more live Jazz and eventually Blues bands. Furthermore Bar Louie started getting local and foreign band]

Hip Cat. Monot - Under the Bridge.
A marvellous venue and a cosy atmosphere to enjoy the enchanting tunes of live jazz bands while savoring cold cuts & sipping on your favourite drink or cocktail. The band starts at 10:00 pm.

Blue Note Cafe. Makhoul Street, Hamra.
A great place to listen to Jazz starting 10:30 PM. Good food!
