The "Koekuit" is a town part in the west of Menin where about a thousand families live. "Koekuit" is an old (west) Flemish word for a cuckoo. "De Alerte Koekuit" (the attentive cuckoo) is a kind of a committee that cares about the liveableness on the Koekuit.
On april 2nd and 3th "De Alerte Koekuit" organised an exhibition and a narrative walk along old German bunkers, remains of the Great War and places where actors performed characters of hundred years ago such as Fons and Alice, inhabitants, Uhlan Karl Best, the first German killed on Menin soil, pilot Paul Strähle who flew from "Le Coucou" (French for cuckoo), one of the three German airfields in Menin and Hauptman Klein, leader of a bataljon that had to "defend" Menin.
