On
Saturday
25th April 2009
a candle vigil for all the victims
of the Chinese repression in Tibet
is organised in the city of Gent (Belgium).
That day is the 20th birthday of the 11th Panchen Lama, the youngest
political prisoner ever.
We
meet at 17.00
o'clock
on the Sint-Baafs-square in
Gent and walk during a peaceful march with candles and Tibetan prayers towards the Woodrow
Wilson square (Zuid).
During
this candle vigil we commemorate all victims of 60 years Chinese occupation. We
also pay special attention to the 11th
Panchen Lama and to all Tibetan
political prisoners. Very often they are arrested only because of their
participation in a peaceful demonstration.
Gedhun
Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, was kidnapped by the Chinese authorities in
1995, shortly after his recognition by H.H. the Dalai Lama. At that time the
Panchen Lama was only 6 years old.
He and his parents disappeared without a trace, and until now no one knows if
they are still alive or where they are. Afterwards the Chinese government has
installed their own Panchen Lama.
Thanks for your support and we hope to see you at the candle vigil.
