HIGHLIGHT HOLLYWOOD SPRAK MET 2 FANS OVER HUN STRIJD VOOR DALLAS
Dont mess with Dallas fans! The now canceled hit series, that began on CBS almost four decades ago, and that was canceled by TNT in 2014
is still the topic of conversation of millions on Twitter and Facebook, as well as other social media sites. In the old days the networks and studios could pretend that
there wasnt a backlash when they canceled shows, because snail mail was easy to ignore. But those days are ancient history here in Tinseltown.
Because when Dallas and other shows are canceled, fans mobilize on social media sites and they remind the networks who are open to bringing on new shows, that theres already a fan base
set for a series.
This is especially true with Dallas, since there are millions of fans who would support Disney, AMC, POP or any other cable network that they have a huge audience
to pull from if they pick up series. Dallas already has a crack cast and crew as well as excellent modern writers, and a fan base that rivals few other shows in TV history.
Highlight Hollywood caught up with two devoted fans who desperately want to find a home for the series. Both Wayne and Sara spoke with us on Saturday, and we thank them for their time.
Their positive energy is infectious, and they are busy on all social media reminding us that they are not history, and they dont believe the series starring Patrick Duffy,
Linda Gray, Josh Henderson and others is dead either. We thank them for contacting us on Twitter and on Facebook to share their feelings.
Highlight Hollywood magazine in Beverly Hills will continue to support the #SaveDallas fans. Who knows, anything is possible.
One of the super fans of the hit series Dallas, which was created 37-years ago is Sara Duckworth, who has created a petition, which has over 90,000 signatures to show networks
just how popular the series remains. Sara was grateful to know that Highlight Hollywood magazine in Beverly Hills remains steadfast with the #SaveDallas fans.
Here why the campaign has gone global!
Q~ Why are fans and you specifically still fighting to save Dallas?
A~ For fans including me the main reason is we feel TNT cheated us leaving us with loose ends and a huge cliffhanger involving a major characters death.
We never got the closure or the chance to say goodbye to a show that we love and is part of our lives. We all feel the show has many more stories left to tell about the Barnes and Ewing feud
as well about as the other characters from Dallas. There are so many viewers like myself who only found Dallas to be TNTs only show on their channel worth watching and feel
it was a huge mistake on their part to axe a show that has a huge fan base and a talented cast. As for me, Dallas with the exception of GCB and Smash, was the only show on television
to me that I enjoyed watching and felt worth my time. Though Im only twenty fours years old, I am an old soul at heart and not a fan of modern TV shows.
I do not care for trashy TV or reality shows. I got a lot of comments on my petition from fans saying they are fed up with reality shows and want shows were the entire family can get together
to be entertained. We want shows that gives us escapism, and that will take us into another world. Reality shows are getting old and boring. Viewers want shows like back in
the golden days of TV. Personally I think TV has gone down hill and viewers are not being listened to as to the kind of shows we want to watch. To me that is an insult and unfair.
Without us, the networks wouldnt have a station. I have always been the kind of person to stand up for what I believe in and for TNT to cancel a show that has millions of viewers
across the globe was the last straw for me. An injustice has been done and if we dont all stick together and stand up for whatever we believe in, we cant make a difference in the world.
Quoting from Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing, Were much stronger together than we could ever be apart.
Q~ Have you been amazed by the popularity that still exists with fans for the show?
A~ No because Dallas is an iconic show and legendary show that started 37 years ago this past April 2 on CBS in 1978. My mother watched the original Dallas
back in its heyday and got me hooked on it when we watched the pilot of the new Dallas together back in 2012. I bought the DVD sets from all the seasons of the original series
as well as the Dallas Movie Collection. I have met many original fans on twitter who have been watching the soap since it first aired as well as a lot of younger fans
my age who were introduced to the original Dallas like I was in some way or another so I recognized how popular the old and new series is. With all the noise we fans have been making
on twitter and other social media sites since the cancelation in October, I do not see how anyone could underestimate the value of the show. Its not just a another show. Its a classic.
The episode where everyone found out who shot Jr, Who Done It? was tuned in by 83 million viewers and the most watched episode in prime time TV so for that many people to sit down
on a Friday night just to find out out who pulled the trigger on a fictional character just speaks for itself.
Q~ What is it about this show that has fans still talking about it, and how long will you continue to fight for Dallas?
A~ In answer to your first about question about what has the fans still talking about this show. Dallas has interesting characters, plot twists, cliffhangers, and is a show
that everyone can relate to cause it is about a family. I think it appeals to the audience cause it is more realistic about families than other shows we have seen about families
before like The Waltons, Leave It To Beaver, and Father Knows Best. Not everyone has loving families that all get along, and the Ewings are an example of that type of dysfunctional family.
Another thing I think appeals to viewers its that its about a wealthy family, and I think all of us would love to get a taste of that kind of life the Ewings live. I know I would.
Its a show that entertains us and by watching their wealthy lifestyle makes us envy a little, but at the same time thankful we dont have the money they have cause look where ending up
rich got the Ewings in the end. Their lives are a mess. We want to have the money, the fancy lifestyle, and the mansion they live in, but without all the drama that never ends in their lives.
The show is about good vs bad, and I think we can learn from the characters mistakes they we see them make. I read where one fan said they learned good morals from watching Dallas.
But the main reason the fans are still talking about the series is that TNT left us with many unanswered questions, and we all are dying to find out how Christophers death affects
the characters on the show, who is the father of Elenas baby, who is John Rosss sister, and the future of the characters. In answer to your second question: how long will I fight for Dallas?
I will fight until a network picks it up. Im never giving up.
Q~ Tell us what is it about the series Dallas that keeps you hopeful and fighting for its survival?
A~ Dallas has a devoted and loyal fanbase. I see all these millions of viewers who love Dallas. Because of all that love, loyalty, devotion, and that many people who want it back just as me,
I am feel obligated to keep fighting. Its not just for them. It is also out of respect for the memory of Larry Hagman and and the surviving cast members specifically Linda Gray and Patrick
Duffy. Since Larry is no longer with us, I feel that he would want us to continue fighting for Dallas to come back. He was really sick when he was filming for the reboot, but never once
complained. He kept on acting as J.R. as long as his health would let him. I feel very strongly that Linda and Patrick was just as affected by the cancelation as us fans. They were his
closest friends for over 30 years since when they worked together on the first Dallas. I know they have moved onto other projects like the rest of the cast, but if someday Dallas does
get picked up by a new network Im sure theyll reprise their roles as Sue Ellen and Bobby without giving it a thought out of respect for Larry and for the show that brought them together
and made them famous throughout the world. All of the cast care about the fans and love us as much as we care about the cast and love them. Look at the fact that when the original Dallas
went off the air in 1991, the cast and crew never thought the show would come back. It did all these years later. Im optimistic that a network will someday give Dallas a new home because
I know that there are enough fans out there who are just as optimistic as me that Dallas is not over. As long as we all work together and continue to press pressure on Warner Brothers
and networks that would be the perfect channel for Dallas, someday our wish will come true and itll come back. It may not be 3 or 5 years, but someday when we least expect it Dallas will
once again be on our TV screens. There are too many people demanding for the return of Dallas, for it be gone for good. There are shows that got brought back to television because of all
the demanding and fighting that the fans went into get their show back. As long as we stick together, have faith, think positive, and fight there is always hope. In Hollywood, anything
is possible.
How right Sara is, Hollywood is the place where dreams come true. Just ask anyone who lives here.
