Los Angeles -The night of Sunday to Monday there was the 80th edition of the Academy Awards.
On the red carpet the most striking colour was red and the biggest winner this year was No Country for Old Men. The host of this year was nobody less than Jon Stewart.
The 80th edition of the Academy Awards lured a lot of actors as well as fans. First there was the red carpet, where every actress wants to show of with their dresses. Most dresses are designed by famous designers like Georgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Calvin Klein, ... Most striking this year was the colour red. Anna Hathaway with a dress from Harry Winston, Katherine Heigl with a dress from Escada and Heidi Klum with a dress from John Galliano Haute Couture were all red. The other colour was mostly black. This year there were two pregnant actrisses, Jessica Alba als Cate Blanchett.
The biggest winner this year was No country for old men with an oscar for: best actor in a supporting role, writing (adapted screenplay), directing and best picture. The oscar for best actor went to Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood and for best actress went to Marion Cotillard in La Vie en Rose.The 80th birthday was celebrated by showing regularly old fragments. Striking was that many of the biggest actors on the fragments have already past away.
ANTWERP - More and more Flemish actresses refuse to go naked in TV-productions and movies. Images showing off nudity are often put on the internet after they were broadcasted. According to a Flemish actress who rather stays anonymous, it's not fun to get confronted with them all the time.
Lately Flemish actresses rather keep their clothes on for TV and movie productions. This because those images are usually spread on internet pages such as You Tube or Garage TV. Once they are viewable on the internet they attract a great deal of attention.
This was the case for the nude scene of Lotte Pinoy, a Flemish actress of the TV series 'Sara' broadcasted on VTM. This scene has been viewed for over 10.000 times on Garage TV. Other notorious Flemish nude scenes are; the love making between Anneleen Liegeois and Stan Van Samang in 'Wittekerke' with 20.000 views, the romp with Ann Ceurvels and Herbert Flack in the movie 'Diamant' with more than 6.000 views and the nude scenes of Francesca Vanthielen and Herbert Flack in 'Aspe'.
A well-known Flemish actress and TV-hostess who played several nude scenes in Flemish serials and movies testified to this phenomenon. She said that she'll never go naked in any TV-serials again. This cause she hates it to get confronted with the nude scenes afterwards, posted on all kinds of websites. She also said there are many other actresses who think alike.
In China, Bugs Bunny and the Flinstones are no longer televised. The Chinese media decided to ban all foreign cartoons to protect the Chinese cartoon market.
Cartoons such as the Flinstones or Bugs Bunny, will disappear on Chinese television. This to protect the countrys own cartoonists. Starting from the 1st of May, foreign cartoons will no longer be shown in primetime. Only co-production with Chinese producers with a special licence or Chinese cartoons will be televised.
In 2007, China made more than 101.900 minutes of cartoons, this is 23% more than they made in 2006. With this new rule, China wants to minimise competition with foreign cartoonists, especially with Japan.
The Chinese government has also encouraged to broadcast nothing but ethical inspiring series.
ANTWERP - Some people rather spend their vacation completely cold and icy. Lately lots of seats have been booked on cruises to the coldest parts of the world. Not only Alaska, but even Antarctica appears on the notorious list of cruise itineraries.
Cruising to the pleasant warm waters of the Caribbean and Mediterranean doesn't find favour with its travellers like it used to. Nowadays people like cruise itineraries to colder parts in the world better than the usual warm ones.
Alaska has long been the leader of the popular cold-cruise destinations. But also destinations as the Baltic Sea, the northern reaches of Canada, Greenland and even Antarctica are starting to surface. According to the Antarctica Treaty Secretariat, there are more tourists visiting Antarctica for this spring and summer compared with the number of visitors during 1992. What used to be a number of 6.750 is now a number of more than 35.000 visitors.
Therefore some cruise lines heading to Antarctica have brought in some new itineraries to the cruise market. A few examples of such cruise lines are Crystal Cruises, Hurtigruten, Cruise North Expeditions, Hapag-Lloyd, Princess Cruises and Abercrombie & Kent.
Antwerp - In 2007, the number of overnight stays in European hotels has increased with 3,1 per cent in comparison with the previous year. The number of overnight stays of compatriots increased with 3,6 per cent and the overnight stays of tourists with 2,4 per cent.
The numbers become clear from Eurostat. Spain was the most popular, followed by Italy, Germany, France and Great Britain. Those 5 countries were good for 70 per cent of the overnight stays in Europe. Cyprus was the only country that did not well. Romania, Latvia, Malta and the Netherlands also saw an increase but not as much as the other countries.
The number of overnight stays in Europe this year are equally devided over tourists in their own country and foreign tourists. The largest number of foreign tourist were to find in Malta, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Greece, Austria and Bulgaria. Romania, Germany, Swedes and Finland couldnt count on their foreign tourists.
Dialogues des Carmélites, a new, based on a true story, opera play running in theatres in Antwerp en Gent from the 8th of March till April the 13th. The play, written by Francis Poulenc,takes place around that time of the French Revolution in an ancient convent. The story is about a young girl, called Blanche, who has an unknown fear from the world and decides to join the Carmelites. There she learns that she has to accept her fears but has to leave the religious order when she founds out that the violence of the French Revolution doesnt hold back for convent walls. In her journey throughout the war, the viewer can feel the reality bursting out of the actors and actresses. ANTWERP - The 14th February, auditions have taken place for the new Broadway musical 'In the Heights'. The premiere is putten on the agenda for the 9th of March at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 46th Street. New songs and scenes have been added.
'In the Heights', a musical inspired by the colourful streets of a Latina neighbourhood in Manhattan, begins a Broadway on the 9th March at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Some new songs and scenes were added to this hip-hop and merengue flavoured musical: 3 new songs have taken place in Act 2. Also newcomers Priscilla Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be refreshing the scenes: Lopez, a Tony award winner, as the mother of a college-student daughter and Miranda as Usnavi, a Dominican charmer holding a corner bodega, the leading part of the musical.
The musical talks about a close-knit community in upper Manhattan, following the lives, but especially the changes init of some warm-hearted characters, like Nina and Benny. During the story these two persons grow closer to one another.
Both the original musical and the Broadway version is directed by Thomas Kail. the dancing is choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. As well the music and music arrangements are directed by Alex Lacamoire. Most members of the earlier Off-Broadway audition cast also make part of the Broadway cast.
Antwerp Tonight Sandrine and Paranoiacs made it to the semifinal of Eurosong 2008. The wildcard was for Tabitha with 'A Butterfly Mind'. This was the 4thand last for round for the Eurosong 2008 semifinal.
Sandrine made it to the semifinal of Eurosong 2008 with the song I feel the same way. In 2004 she finished 3rd in the competition Idols. She already got a TMF award and a Zamu award under her name. Also Paranoiacs made it with the song Shout it out. Paranoias is a rockgroup and was the ex-group of Axl Peleman.
This evening Francesco Palmeri started Eurosong. His song Vagabundo was discribed as a Radio 2-song and had the lowest votes. Paranoiacs obtained effortlessly the semifinal and the jury support. The 16-year old Elisa also didnt have enough votes. 'A butterfly mind' gained a wildcard and Sandrine finished the competition with the most votes. Next week the semifinal will start.
ANTWERP Many fashionshows take place in Antwerp, but non as hot as this one. First of all because there were a lot of celebrities and secondly because I was there too.
Sometimes, I work as a dresser at fashionshows in Antwerp, thanks to my friends sister. We help dressing the models and we change outfits during the show. Last Tuesday, I was lucky again and went to Anwerp to work a bit and party a lot!
Normally, you run into two, maybe three celebrities per night. Tuesday, the dance floor was full of them! I saw Guy van Sande, whos spotted a lot at fashionshows, hitting on other women, leaving his (much younger) girlfriend at home. Martine Prenen was there too, I knew she is gay, but the women I saw her with was the owner of my favourite shop in Antwerp! I didnt know she was gay too?! A colleague of hers, Jo Depoorter, gay also, showed up with three other gentlemen on his arm. I couldnt find out who is his boyfriend. Maybe all three? Also new arrivals in celeb-world Simon and Helena from the Belgian show Sarah were there. Although they look much better on television, they did their best to shine anyway.
I can go on like this for ages, talking about famous peoples public lives, but I wont. After all, also they are people like you and me, doing their jobs, going out with friends, drinking and dancing.

ANTWERP Rumors about Paula Patton and husband Thicke expecting a baby were confirmed.
Paula Patton has confirmed at the 2008 Fall Fashion of the Essence Magazine that her husband Robin Thicke and herself are expecting a baby. Essence Magazine reported that Mr. and Mrs Thicke will be welcoming their first child by this spring.
Before the official statement, the first rumors were spread when the Hollywood couple was spotted in Vegas at Jay-Zs 40/40 Club opening. It first seemed that Patton gained some wait, since she was already seen with a little baby bum a few months before the club opening at the Mtv Video Music Awards last September.

ANTWERP - Heath Ledger died the 22nd of January because of an overdose of medication.
The 28-year old actor was found in his appartment in New York. Friends and family came together last week for a commemoration service in Los Angeles.
Heath Ledger(28) was a famous actor, you can see him in the oscar winning film, Brokeback Mountain, also 10 things I hate about you, The Brothers Grimm, Casanova and many more. He was born on the 4th of april 1979. His first acting job was a lowbudget film 'Blackrock' and when he was a young boy he played in the famous soap Home and Away. He and Michelle Williams, also known from Brokeback Mountain, have a 2-year old daughter together.
On the 22nd of January, Heath Ledger was found dead in his appartment. He took an overdose of medication among which sleep pills, pain-killers and appeasement pills. His death was a real shock for family and friends but also for a lot of fans. Nobody could believe he actually died. Just as James Dean hell be a legend to all of us.
