'In the Heights' goes Broadway
ANTWERP - The 14th February, auditions have taken place for the new Broadway musical 'In the Heights'. The premiere is putten on the agenda for the 9th of March at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 46th Street. New songs and scenes have been added.
'In the Heights', a musical inspired by the colourful streets of a Latina neighbourhood in Manhattan, begins a Broadway on the 9th March at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Some new songs and scenes were added to this hip-hop and merengue flavoured musical: 3 new songs have taken place in Act 2. Also newcomers Priscilla Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be refreshing the scenes: Lopez, a Tony award winner, as the mother of a college-student daughter and Miranda as Usnavi, a Dominican charmer holding a corner bodega, the leading part of the musical.
The musical talks about a close-knit community in upper Manhattan, following the lives, but especially the changes init of some warm-hearted characters, like Nina and Benny. During the story these two persons grow closer to one another.
Both the original musical and the Broadway version is directed by Thomas Kail. the dancing is choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. As well the music and music arrangements are directed by Alex Lacamoire. Most members of the earlier Off-Broadway audition cast also make part of the Broadway cast.
