SmackDown results: Lumberjack Match Rumbles out of control
By: Michael Burdick January 20, 2012
    Tags: SmackDown: January 20, 2012

LAS VEGAS – “Sin City SmackDown” lit up Las Vegas like never before, with a series of explosive specialty matches determined by the unpredictability of the roulette wheel. And when the aggressive actions of World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan sent the lumberjack World Title showdown spiraling into madness, the WWE Universe was given a true taste of the bedlam the Royal Rumble Match will bring in just nine days.

The World Heavyweight Championship Lumberjack Match ended in a No Contest (WATCH | PHOTOS)
For the third week in a row, extraordinary circumstances allowed World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan to walk out of SmackDown with his coveted title, despite the fact that he was lucky to walk out at all.

When Mark Henry threw Bryan over the rope and onto the lumberjacks outside the ring, the reigning champion opted to fight the masses rather than his opponent. Then, when Henry found himself caught up with a sea of lumberjacks – as he was getting his adversary back in the ring – Bryan began throwing random kicks at everyone in sight. This incited several Superstars to enter the squared circle after him, causing the match to descend into all-out chaos. Amidst the inevitable anarchy, Bryan retreated up the ramp, with the World Title firmly in his grasp.

Once Bryan was clear of the action, SmackDown General Manger Theodore Long informed him that he will defend his championship in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match at Royal Rumble against both Mark Henry and Big Show. (MATCH PREVIEW)

Santino Marella def. Drew McIntyre in a Blindfold Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Though SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long looked ready to fire Drew McIntyre for not living up to his contract in recent weeks, Assistant to the General Manager Santino Marella convinced him to give the Scottish Superstar another chance – facing him in what the roulette wheel would determine to be Blindfold Match, where both grapplers would have their eyes completely covered.

After McIntyre failed in his attempt to cheat his way to victory, The Italian Stallion reigned supreme – calling on the WWE Universe to guide his sightless Cobra attack, which allowed him to pick up the win.
Ted DiBiase def. Hunico in a Flag Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
In the first-ever Flag Match in SmackDown history, Ted DiBiase hit Dream Street to overcome Hunico, paving the way for him to wave the American flag proudly in triumph.

Wade Barrett def. Sheamus in a Tables Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Just when Sheamus looked ready to put Wade Barrett through a table with the Celtic Cross, Jinder Mahal suddenly jumped up on the ring apron. His distraction allowed Barrett to turn the tide and hurl The Great White through the table for the victory. But when Mahal tried to repeat this action in the aftermath, The Celtic Warrior got his retribution, hitting the Punjabi Superstar with the Brogue Kick before driving him into a table.

Brodus Clay def. Vickie Guerrero in a Dance Off (WATCH | PHOTOS)
In a special Sin City SmackDown Dance Off, the WWE Universe determined that Brodus Clay had the moves to put Vickie Guerrero’s “rhythmic” challenge to shame. Then, when William Regal attempted to defend Guerrero’s honor with some dignified steps of him own, The Funkasaurus ended his interruption with the thunderous “Ah-Funk-It!”

WWE Tag Team Champions Epico & Primo def. The Usos in a Tag Team Tornado Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
This past Sunday, in a WWE Live Event in Oakland, Calif., Primo & Epico defeated Air Boom to capture the WWE Tag Team Championships. Making their return to Friday night, the high-octane duo looked ready to celebrate with a victory over the battling sons of Rikishi.

Hours before SmackDown, the stunning Rosa Mendes spun the roulette wheel on WWE.com (WATCH), determining that the new champions would face their foes in a Tag Team Tornado Match, with all four participants legal in the ring at the same time. And in the midst of the fast-paced competition that followed, Primo hit a Backstabber for the pin.

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes def. Justin Gabriel in a Player’s Choice Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Awarded a Player’s Choice Match with a spin of the wheel, Cody Rhodes chose to face Hornswoggle. However, when he attacked his pint-sized opponent before the bell, Justin Gabriel came to the rescue – egging on Rhodes to face him instead.

Despite Gabriel’s intense effort, which included several near falls on the Intercontinental Champion, Rhodes ultimately prevailed with the Cross Rhodes.

Daniel Bryan called for Big Show to quit
After repeating the claim he made on Raw that Big Show’s collision with AJ one week ago was no accident, Daniel Bryan declared he would dedicate his main event match against Mark Henry to his injured girlfriend. Sending a message to The World’s Strongest Man that he was not afraid of him, the World Heavyweight Champion called for Big Show to “do the right thing” and quit.

Tyson Kidd Discusses Looking for a New Partner

Tyson Kidd Discusses Looking for a New Partner
    - WWE Superstar Tyson Kidd recently spoke with Tim Baines of The Ottawa Sun. Below are some highlights, via Slam Wrestling:

    His talents:
"I know it might come across as arrogance. I'm sorry, but I know I can outperform a lot of people. But when the (door opens), I'm going to kick it in."

    Looking for a new partner:
"I'm a big fan of tag teams again. I've been looking, scouting (for a partner). I've done a couple of matches with Johnny Curtis and Justin Gabriel. When I teamed with Justin, I thought we gelled perfectly. Even with a guy like Trent Baretta. I think we could give a Hardy Boys type of feel."

"People have said it before, but if it's not your goal to be at the top, what are you doing this for? I've set a bunch of little goals that I hope to accomplish. And right now, the tag team scene is what I want to do."

    WWE Champion CM Punk:
"He has a different way of thinking than most guys. Basically, the message is if I've come this far, I'm already halfway into the forest and I can't go back. He's a guy I can text anytime. If it's 4 a.m. and I text him, he'll text me back."

Velvet Sky Interview: Shoots Hard On Internet Rumors, State Of The Knockouts Division

Velvet Sky Interview: Shoots Hard On Internet Rumors, State Of The Knockouts Division

TNA Knockout Velvet Sky was interviewed by Zoo magazine. In the interview she talks about getting her start in Wrestling, the popularity of Impact Wrestling in the UK and the state of the Knockouts division in TNA:

On the popularity of TNA in the UK:
The UK fans just don’t get the same opportunity to see TNA live because we are based in the US. Our fans back home can see us at the drop of a dime and get so many chances through our events, autograph signings and meet and greet sessions. It’s an exciting experience for me because I always look forward to being on the European tour and getting to perform for the UK fans. I’ll hopefully get to do a little bit of sightseeing too.

Regarding the Current Direction Of the Knockouts Division:
In my opinion I honestly think that despite the lingerie matches and bikini car washes we have the strongest group of women in the wrestling industry today. Every one of us have come from a wrestling background and spent a lot of years on the indy circuit where we worked for little money, and sometimes none at all. For me back then it sucked not to get paid, but it was more important to get my name out there in a positive way and working on the right shows to get recognised.

The pay didn’t matter to me, it mattered to work as much as possible and the six years of hard work paid off when I signed with TNA. I’ll never forget where I came from because the indy circuit is where I learned my trade. All the dues I and all the other Knockouts paid has made us that much stronger because we struggled so long trying to make it and now we have. The Knockouts is by far the best women’s division in the industry today. The internet has changed the wrestling industry considerably.

On how the internet and social media has shaped the business:
Aside from the positives from the likes of Twitter and Facebook, the internet in general has had quite a negative effect on the business. Some people report false information on professional wrestling and those in the industry, just so they can have a story. It was reported that the onscreen persona of Karen Jarrett and her negative dialogue of me was what TNA officials thought of me. That is complete and utter bullsh**t! It is just false. This is just a small example of how the internet can have a negative effect on wrestling and affect my character.

I laugh at it more than anything. It’s just frustrating because I have worked so hard to try and keep a good name for myself in this business. Don’t get me wrong as I said the likes of Twitter and Facebook have also had a positive effect because it has helped tremendously with fan interaction. Before social networking fans could only interact with us through autograph signings and events like that. But now with a click of a button fans can get in touch with us and that’s a great thing for us too.

    Bourne's Suspension News

    - Evan Bourne will be able to return to WWE TV on the March 19th RAW Supershow. Since Bourne is not going to be a major part of WrestleMania 28, he likely won't return until after that. It's still possible that Bourne may get a WrestleMania dark match spot but with his second suspension he has cost himself the two biggest paydays of the year - Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.

CM Punk Q&A: Role Model, American Wrestling Fans

CM Punk Q&A: Role Model, American Wrestling Fans

    - WWE Champion CM Punk spoke with AZCentral.com this week to promote next week's RAW Supershow in Phoenix. Here are some highlights:

Q: Are American fans not respectful? (After commenting that Japan has respectful fans.)

A: It's just a lack of "excuse me" and "please" and "thank you." I'm a pretty approachable guy, but I've had my headphones taken off my head in the gym, people poking me in the back like I'm a farm animal. It's a part of the game.

Q: With so many young fans, you must find yourself being a role model.

A: Absolutely. I'm the straight-edge guy. I'm a damn good guy to look up to. But I approach it the way Charles Barkley approached it. I'm not a role model. Everybody should choose their own path in life. I don't get preachy with the straight-edge stuff.

Q: Do people put you on a pedestal because of it?

A: I find myself being a target as opposed to being put on a pedestal. I get criticized a lot. There are people who are skeptical about it or scared by it or intimidated by it.

Q: Do you mind that a personal choice like that has become part of your public persona?

A: No, because it's who I am. People say, "When did you decide to be straight edge?" I was born this way. It's nothing I really decided (pause) and, right now, while I'm talking, on the treadmill and doing an interview, there's a guy standing over here, taking pictures ... (He politely asks the guy to stop, which doesn't seem to go well). All right, and now he just flipped me off, and I'm the (expletive). See what I mean? (sighing) ... Anyway, I don't think I have a persona per se. I'm not trying to be something I'm not.

Q: What about acting? So many WWE people go into the movies.

A: That's not up to me, but it's nothing I'm actively pursuing. I never say never to anything, but it's nothing I'm looking to actively do.

WWE Raw SuperShow results: Laurinaitis snaps!
By: Mitch Passero January 16, 2012
Tags: WWE Raw SuperShow: January 16, 2012

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis unleashed a pipe bomb of his own on WWE Champion CM Punk. First he reversed the decision of the night’s main event. Then after saying he’s sick and tired of being disrespected, he admitted he’s going to try to screw Punk at Royal Rumble. At the end of his emotional tirade, the EVP then bashed WWE Legend Mick Foley in the head with a mic!

Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler & David Otunga  def. Chris Jericho, WWE Champion CM Punk & World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan (WATCH: PART 1 | PART 2 | PHOTOS)
In a marquee main event featuring some of Raw’s biggest Superstars, the odds changed when a fired up Chris Jericho curiously tagged out and simply walked away from the match. The balance of power shifted again, when World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry’s fight took them away from the ring. To even the odds, Mick Foley joined the fray … claiming Laurinaitis gave him permission.

After a DDT, followed by Mr. Socko, Foley put away Otunga for the win … or so he thought.

After the bell, John Laurinaitis came to the ring and announced he never gave Foley permission to be the match and reversed the decision. After the controversial call, Punk berated the GM for being uncharismatic and vanilla. But Laurinaitis, snapped and declared he would soon be the permanent GM and he will not be intimated by Punk. Things came to a head when Foley forced the GM to admit he’s going to screw Punk at Royal Rumble.

"Damn right I will," Laurinaitis declared, then smashed Foley in the head with the mic!

Brodus Clay def. JTG (WATCH | PHOTOS)
After dancing his way to the ring, Brodus Clay took on JTG. Relying on an aresenal of hard-hitting moves, "The Funkasaurus" made quick work of JTG.

A John Cena vs. United States Champion Jack Swagger Non-title Match ended in a No Contest (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Right from the start, John Cena launched a brutal assault against the newly crowned United States Champion. After relentlessly pummeling Swagger, Cena was ready to deliver a particularly vicious blow with the steel ring steps … when The Big Red Monster Kane appeared on the arena screen to instantly command Cena’s attention. “I think you’re getting it,” Kane growled, referencing Cena appearing to embrace hate as their Royal Rumble Match looms. R-Truth won an Over-the-Top Rope Challenge (WATCH | PHOTOS)
After R-Truth revealed pictures from his trip to Disneyland (WATCH), Wade Barrett quickly lost interest. Next, The Miz and Barrett attacked Truth, but Sheamus charged in to help fend them off. Before total chaos erupted, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long emerged to announce the four would do battle in an Over-the-Top Rope Challenge. The first to be eliminated was Wade Barrett by all three competitors. Later, when Sheamus was poised to eliminate The Miz, Truth rushed in and flipped both Superstars over the rope to seize the win. After the bout, Sheamus dropped Miz to the arena floor with a brutal Brogue Kick.

Kelly Kelly & Alicia Fox def. The Bella Twins (WATCH | PHOTOS)
With celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton acting as the special guest ring announcer, Hilton thwarted twin magic by causing a distraction, allowing Kelly Kelly to capture victory for her team. Afterward, The Bellas dropped Hilton to the canvas, who promptly hid behind Kelly Kelly & Fox to escape more twin wrath.

Jack Swagger def. Zack Ryder to win the United States Championship (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Even though he was injured at the hands of Kane on last week’s Raw SuperShow (MORE), United States Champion Zack Ryder was forced to defend his title against Jack Swagger. The match was made in the interest of “fairness’’ by the GM, who felt a ref made a bad call in Swagger’s match with Punk on last week’s Raw SuperShow (MORE). After punishing and humiliating his injured opponent with three gutwrench powerbombs, Swagger dethroned Ryder. The win was especially sweet for Swagger, who has been chasing championship glory since losing the World Heavyweight Championship in 2010. After the match, Interim Raw GM John Laurinaitis apologized after revealing Ryder was not medically cleared to compete (WATCH).

The Interim Raw GM Laurinaitis changed the main event
The night's main event was changed by the GM to: Chris Jericho, WWE Champion CM Punk & World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler & David Otunga.

WWE Tag Team Champions Primo & Epico def. Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne (WATCH | PHOTOS)
In their first title defense since winning the WWE Tag Team Championships yesterday at a WWE Live Event in Oakland’s Oracle Center (WATCH), Primo & Epico downed former champions Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne, when Epico blasted Bourne with a backstabber. After the match, Rosa helped the duo celebrate.

Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis denied Mick Foley’s request to be in the Royal Rumble Match (PHOTOS)
After Mick Foley kicked off Raw SuperShow by expressing his desire to be in the 2012 Royal Rumble Match – so that his two kids could see him compete – he was quickly criticized for such a lofty dream by former United States Champion Dolph Ziggler. Foley clarified that his goal was to be in the Royal Rumble Match to win it. After more harsh words for the WWE Legend, Ziggler told Foley to “just go away.”
Next, Ziggler’s Royal Rumble opponent, WWE Champion CM Punk, came out to greet his fellow “unconventional” Superstar, pointing out that neither hide behind a woman. The WWE Champion also called Ziggler out for having the GM in his back pocket for their match at Royal Rumble.

As tensions grew in the ring, Laurinaitis emerged and said although he considered Foley’s request to be in the Royal Rumble Match, his answer was “no”! After the blunt answer, Vickie cackled in Foley’s face.

WWE Signs Wrestler Son of Actor

    - WWE has signed independent wrestler Jody Kristofferson to a developmental deal. Jody is the son of actor and musician Kris Kristofferson.

Kristofferson impressed Triple H months ago at a tryout, even more when he found out who his father was, and word is that the deal has been in place for some time but WWE didn't want it getting out. Jody finished up with the APW promotion in California this weekend and will likely start with FCW in Tampa next month.

    New WWE Tag-Team Champions Crowned

During a WWE Live Event at Oakland’s Oracle Center, Primo & Epico beat Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship. Kingston & Bourne held the titles since Aug. 22, 2011.

The victory for Primo & Epico comes less than a month after they attempted to dethrone "Air Boom" at WWE TLC 2011.

Primo previously won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Carlito in 2008. Then, at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, Primo & Carlito defeated World Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz to become the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions. Together, Primo & Carlito held the titles until June 28, 2009, when they were defeated by Edge & Chris Jericho.

The victory marks the first championship in WWE for Epico since his Nov. 4, 2011 debut on SmackDown.
